Are you ready to find out what happened to Saf? Logan sure is.

Logan

"Have you seen Saf?" I shout as I storm into Jasper's room with Father fast on my heels. "I can't find her anywhere."

Jasper quickly pauses the movie he's got going on his laptop. The loud explosions echoing through the room instantly stop, replaced by echoing silence.

"Yeah." He takes in my fuming expression, glances at my Pissed Off Wolf of a Father, and frowns. "Is everything okay?"

"Yes." Father snaps. "What was she doing here?"

"She stopped by to see Zara?" Jasper continues frowning as he glances down at her unconscious form. For a second, we all stay quiet, watching her, as if we expect her to suddenly wake up. She doesn't. I guess if neither the movie nor my shouting roused her, staring at her won't help. Even Dr. Dev isn't sure what will, except praying to the Moon Goddess, and I feel a wave of sympathy for Jasper.

"When was she here?" I ask softly.

"Maybe ten minutes ago?" Jasper glances down at his laptop. "Twenty-three, actually. I started the movie right after she left."

"And where did she go?" Father demands over my left shoulder, the anger in his tone spiking my own.

I suddenly have an urge to punch something, or someon. His accusations echo in my head, and thinking about them only makes me angrier. Yeah, Saf pretended to be an Omega, but that was when she thought we might hurt her. She didn't have to tell me that, but she did, and she's my mate. She would never sell out our pack to a bunch of Rogues. I just need her to say all that to Father, so he gets it through that thick, Pissed Off Wolf head of his.

"Saf was looking for Joshie," Jasper says. "Why—"

"The library," Father shouts, and then he's off, marching back down the hall.

"Thanks, Jasp." I grin and rush to follow.

"Logan, wait. What's going on?" My beta shouts after me, but I ignore him and keep running.

I can just picture Father getting to Saf first, growling and shouting for answers, and it makes my heart lurch. I know he wouldn't hurt her—not physically—but what if he scares her so much she actually becomes an Omega? Okay, that's pretty unlikely, but he might still upset her. That, or worse—the thought of anyone making my mate cry—is like a physical punch to the gut. I try to speed up, but Father flings the library door open and storms inside second before I get there.

"Can I help you, Alpha?" Miss Elmers asks in her sing-songy voice. She's sitting on the floor cross-legged with a children's Wolf history book propped on her knee. All the little kids, including Joshie, Nicki and Nisha are in a semi circle facing her, and they all turn their heads to look at Father with matching wide-eyed stares.

"Is Saffron here?" Father demands, searching the room as if she might be hiding behind the couch or curtains or something.

"No. I haven't seen her, Alpha." Miss Elmers shakes her head. "Is everything alright?"

"It's fine." Father snaps and storms off back down the hall. I don't even have time to shut the library door as I follow.

"Miss Elmers, Miss Elmers," Nicki's voice echoes after me, and I picture her waiving her hand in the air so the teacher would pick her.

"Is Saffron in trouble?" Joshie's anguished cry follows a second later. He's only known Saf for a matter of days, but somehow she's already managed to win him over.

"Settle down. Settle down." Miss Elmers claps her hands, but but the rest of what she says is drowned out by Jasper.

"What's going on?" he shouts down the hall. He's got one foot in the room with Zara, and the other out here, as if he can't decide where to be.

"We need to find Saffron," Father shouts, "Jasper, I want you to—"

"Text the others and ask if they've seen her," I interrupt, giving him an order he can follow without leaving Zara's side.

"Is she okay?" Jasper cries, concern evident in his voice as he takes out his phone.

"I'll check downstairs," Father shouts, ignoring the question. "Logan, you—"

"Will be right behind you," I shout right back. No way am I letting him find Saffron if I'm not right there with him.

"Fine, then we search this floor first and work our way down."

We open every door on the fourth floor and then search the girls' floor before heading downstairs. I keep reminding myself that there's no reason to panic—that Saffron's around here somewhere and we'll find her and clear this whole thing up—but I can't seem to shake it. Call it paranoia, call it intuition, but some sixth sense keeps telling me that she's not okay.

We reach the first floor and Father is about to enter the kitchen when Kaitlyn skips in through the front door. She's got this absent-minded Kaitlyn look on her face, but the moment she sees us, that look disappears. I don't know what is reflected on our faces, but it must not be good, because she actually starts to back away.

"Kaitlyn, have you seen Saffron?" Father demands.

"S-Saffron?" Her eyes widen. "Yyes, Alpha."

"I need more information than that," Father shouts, making her jump. "Where the Goddess is she?"

"S-she like..." Kaitlyn pauses, looks up at the staircase, and says, "went upstairs."

"We searched everywhere except the boys' floor," Father tells her. "Are you saying she's with one of the boys?"

"I don't know." Kaitlyn's eyes fill with tears. "All I did was like give her a tour."

"What tour?"

"S-she was bored." Kaitlyn glances from me to Father and back again. "She said you like had a meeting or something? And Zara is still, you know... and Jess..." tears start to flow down Kaitlyn's cheeks, "so there was just me."

I take a step forward, intent on comforting her, but she starts to back away again. A few more steps, and she'll fly off the front porch. "Careful," I tell her, and Kaitlyn follows my gaze and stops.

"Thanks, Logan." She bats her tear stained eyelashes at me, and I fight the urge to roll my eyes.

"So you showed her around?" I ask, trying to keep my voice gentle. I mean, it's not her fault that she gets on my nerves. Jess and Zara seem to like her just fine, and looks like Saf does too, so it's probably just me.

"I did." Kaitlyn wipes way some of the tears. "I wanted to like, get manipedis and everything, but she said she was tired."

"If she'd gone back to bed, we would have seen her," Father tells me, seemingly forgetting Kaitlyn is there. "We can check the boys' floor, but if she isn't there..."

"Wait. Kaitlyn, did you actually see her go up?"

"No." She shakes her head. "My wolf wanted to run, but she like changed her mind."

Which isn't unusual for Kaitlyn, so I just shrug. Father doesn't seem to be too surprised either. He turns to me and says, "Well, Logan, you know what I think."

"What's that?" I glare at him, daring him to say it.

"I think she ran away the first chance she got."
