JETT

I scrunched my face at the prick of the needle as Grant continued to stitch me up. Things escalated quickly on my mission and a bullet went splitting through my flesh. I didn't realize it until I looked down to see a deep red stain on my shirt. The adrenaline had blocked out the pain.

"One more," Grant murmured and I nodded in response.

". . . So have you heard anything about my sister?"

For a few moments he pretended not to hear that question as his eyes were focussed on my wound. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the excess string.

Then he slammed it back on the tray, "Do you even know what she's actually fighting for?"

I was taken aback by his sudden outburst.

"Dude what are you talking about?"

Grant breathed a bitter laugh, "Of course you wouldn't know! You've been at odds with her since the day you got here. And you took Vera's side every-time. A woman we all still barely know."

"That woman is my-"

"No you shut up," He hissed. "I don't care. I don't. Grey is your sister. You're her older brother. Therefore you stand by her. No matter how crazy the situation is. Maybe if you actually listened to her you'd realize we have a bigger problem on our hands than Grey being a problem child."

"What problem?" I frowned.

"That's for you to find out Jett. I'm not spelling it out for you."

I was too stunned to speak.

"You can go," Grant jerked his head toward the door. I put my shirt back on and left with a puzzled expression. What bigger problem? How was I supposed to find that out myself?

Grant's words weighed heavily on my mind and I tried my best to read between the lines. But my mind drew blank every time. It was all so surreal how that happened. So unexpected.

I never imagined chill, laid back Grant with a temper like that. It only made me realize that he felt strongly about whatever Grey is fighting for.

I knew she didn't agree with Society standards, but what exactly drove her to the point of becoming a rogue? Maybe I have been too hard on her.

Guilt settled in my bones, it burned more than my actual wound. My loyalty and her defiance has drawn a wedge between us. It's all my fault.

As much as I didn't want to admit it, I miss my first little sister.

I walked into my room and plopped on my bed with a sigh. I buried my head in my hands.

*flashback*

"I saw something," Grey said vaguely. I knitted my brows in confusion.

"Vera is planning something big for the future and it's dangerous. We can't be here when that happens, I don't want Vi-"

I sighed, "Here we go again. You still wanna leave? After you just became an agent and did all that work. It's almost been three months!"

"And?!" She rose her voice. "We barely get to see our little sister because some woman we barely know is taking care of her. She needs to be home. We need to be home!"

"That woman gave us a better, sustainable home," I fired every word with strong conviction. "We're not going back."

"She wants to freakin' dominate the country," Grey dropped her voice into a seething tone.

"Alright now you just sound ridiculous," I shook my head with a roll of my eyes. "Whatever she has in store for us, I'm sure she has a logical explanation."

"Who's side are you on?! I'm the blood, she's the water, which one is thicker?" She boomed.

"Look. I'm not gonna tell Vera what you saw because I guarantee you weren't supposed to see it. But you better cool off with this escape, I'm not gonna tell you again. We're not going back home. Now get out."

*e n d o f f l a s h b a c k*

I picked my head back up so quickly it made me a little dizzy. My heart banged against my ribcage. She said Vera wants to dominate the country and has something big planned for the future. All I did was brush her off and defend Vera without even giving thought to what she might of meant.

Well that ends today.

*

"Vera," I rushed into her office with a feigned breathy voice, "Two Agents are fighting in Residence Hall."

"What?" She frowned.

"You better go quick, it was pretty wild when I left."

"What are we in High School?" She mumbled as she stood from her chair and sashayed out of the room powerfully. When she was officially out of sight, I smiled.

Too easy.

It wasn't just a lie that I told Vera, I actually started a fight between Jack and Peter. I laughed to myself lightly.

"Alright," I eyed Vera's office, wondering where I should look first. I honestly don't know what I'm even looking for but hopefully I could find something suspicious.

I walked to her shelf and pulled out a dark brown heavy box containing an overabundance of manila folders with their tabs sticking up. Names were written on the tabs.

The files.

Every person in this facility had a file with all their information in it. I thumbed through and saw a few names that I knew really well. Like Jack and Skywalker.

Something told me I wouldn't find anything interesting in here. So I stood up and pushed the box aside.

I walked behind her desk and began to search through all her drawers.

There were three on each side. The first two contained nothing but standard office supplies such as tape, highlighters and a stapler. The last drawer contained a few of her makeup products.

I went to the other side of the desk and searched the other three, occasionally switching my gaze to the clock on the wall. Time was of the essence. When I opened the second drawer, I saw an old Blackberry phone.

It the burner she used to get in touch with the President!

I put it back and opened the last drawer to see a bunch of CD's. The video diaries.

I closed the drawer and let my mind rewind back to the time Grey first gave them to me. When we argued.

I sighed defeatedly and looked under the main part of her desk to see if there was anything hidden. I put my hand underneath the last drawer and felt something strange.

It wasn't just a flat bottom. It was slightly risen. I frowned and continued to feel the foreign area. I looked down to see that there was a tiny slot at the bottom of the drawer.

I let my knees touch the ground as I hunched over to get a closer look. There were papers in the little slot.

I attempted to pull one of them out and a whole file fell into my hands.

My jaw dropped.

I opened up the file and saw a picture of Deidra Sanders paper-clipped at the top!

"Oh my god," My chest heaved.

She used to be a Society Agent?

I studied her file more attentively.

Agent Deidra M. Sanders
(From 2004-Present)

My eyes widened. No. She is a Society Agent.
