GREY
Lyon, France

I woke up to warm sunlight pouring into my room. If I wasn't mistaken or in some alternate universe, I could hear the birds sing their pleasant morning song.

With my eyes only half open, I pushed strands of hair off my face and sat up. I blinked several times adjusting to the natural bright light. I turned my head to look at the clock on the nightstand.

10:02. I hummed a laugh. It's been a while since I've waken up this late.

I flipped the duvet off my body and got out of bed, my bare feet meeting the cool wooden floor. The apartment was pin drop quiet so I assumed Helena was at work. I was lucky she lended me some lounge clothes and a really nice spare bedroom.

I walked out of the room to the kitchen. On the island there was a quickly written note, I picked it up.

Be back at 5, meeting the team tonight -Hel.

I dropped the note limply and surveyed the kitchen with a heavy sigh.

"Breakfast. How hard could it be," I muttered, eyeing the room.

I shuffled further in and opened the first wooden cabinet. It contained plates stacked in towers, from elegant plates to small cute saucers. I grabbed a white one with a shiny gold rim.

I moved on to the next cabinet and found Helena's mugs, I chose a heavy glass one. I remember Helena telling me she's not a tea drinker to my demise. I turned my head and saw her silver pristine coffee kettle sat on the counter. The coffee was a deep brown with a thin layer of foam.

I inwardly sighed and reluctantly picked it up, pouring some into my cup. I brought the cup under my nose, the billow of a comforting coffee smell pleased me. With a dubious expression, I brung it my lips and let the warm liquid glide down my throat.

"Hm. Not bad," I shrugged.

I set the cup down on the counter and walked to what I presumed was a pantry with long white double slim doors. It was like I hit the jackpot when I saw her shelves loaded with food. I scanned each one for something that looked the slightest bit of familiar.

Croissants.

I immediately grabbed the clear package of croissants, opened it and put one on my little saucer.

"There we go Rey," I picked my plate and coffee and walked toward the double doors in Helena's living room. I pushed down the silver handle with my elbow and the beautiful city of Lyon greeted me with it's warm breeze. I smiled and set my breakfast down on the small round white table.

I sat down, propped both my feet on the table, pulling apart the soft croissant in all it;s layered glory. It melted in my mouth. For the next ten minutes I sat in pure tranquility, with nothing but the whispering wind and fresh foreign air. It made me forget why I was here in the first place.

For the first time in a long while, I was at complete ease in my solitude.

I turned my head, staring back into Helena's apartment. Growing curious, I got up and walked back in. I roamed down the small hallway to Helena's room. Because what else am I supposed to do while I'm in here until after five right? Her room was nothing special, but that's what I liked about it. No marbled floors or wall sized tv like Society rooms had.

I brushed my finger against the soft comforter of her bed as I slowly walked by. There was a desk sitting in front her window and I frowned as I ambled closer. Papers with various sketches out outfits were bestrewn all over with even a sample of the actual sketch sloppily thrown on the desk.

I picked up one sketch, the model was wearing a black fitted pantsuit with a belt around the waist and high black wedged boots. I switched my gaze to the article of clothing and dropped the sketch.

My heart pounded a mile a minute as I looked it up and down. It almost looked like Society's suit! But when I saw looked at the right sleeve, that told me other wise. A grey R was stitched in.

R . . . for rogue. I breathed a laugh. In that moment everything became real, the fight against Vera.

A low beeping noise made my head snap in another direction. It came from her laptop on her nightstand. I placed the suit back onto the desk and walked to the laptop. I opened it and a white box containing a message slightly alarmed me.

012342456: they're coming.

Rouge House

"It's too soon! How did they figure out a plan my tracker is down," I complained frustratedly to Grant on the screen.

He sighed, "Well it's happening. Vera is really persistent about this, she's rounding up the Agents and sending them to the safe-house really soon . . . to kill you all and 'save' Rey."

Pierre slammed his hand on the table angrily, "No!"

"Restez calme," Caden tried to ease.

"It's time to fight back," Pierre said adamantly.

"No," I disapproved firmly, narrowing my eyes at him.

"Grey she's literally planning to wipe us out, what are we gonna do sit here and let that happen?" Rafael reasoned.

"Yeah we need a plan and fast. We can start our training routines agai-"

"Just listen to me!" I screamed. "We can't kill them. As crazy as it is to realize, Society Agents are regular people too. We were all abducted by the same woman's orders, we were all recruits, we were all fish out of water when we first came to Society.

Vera is a very powerful woman and will do whatever it takes to make people obey her. And that's exactly what she's doing because every Society Agent is brainwashed. They'll do whatever she asks of them on a whim. We can't take their lives, not when we can give it back to them when this is all over."

"We can't just go based upon that though, that doesn't change the fact that they're coming to kill us," Pierre argued. I saw the truth in it, unfortunately.

I sighed heavily and sat with my legs crisscrossed on the ground, my head buried in my hands.

"Rey it's gonna be ok, we'll figure this out," Grant consoled. The room was quiet with his words left in the air. Time was of the essence, we needed a game plan quickly. That dilemma alone wore my brain down thinking of possible solutions.

"I know you've grown close to some of them," Helena spoke, walking toward me. "But Vera is leaving us no choice."

I popped my head up, "I have an idea."

"What? What is it?" Kimber inquired.

"If Vera wants to make moves, we can make moves too," My voice rang with confidence. "Caden you can hack into Society's system right?"

He looked puzzled as to where this was going, "Yeah why?"

"Good. Because I have a little . . . message for Vera."
