Quebec, CanadaCourtyard Hotel

The doors swooshed opened and I- with a slim fitted baby blue dress - sashayed into the hotel. My black pumps clacked against the tile in a rhythmic beat. The sway to my matching baby blue buttonless trench jacket with a pair of shades put more confidence to my step.

Not to mention when I turned my head, Xander looked dapper in his suit with a similar pair of shades. A hand stuffed in his pocket.

"Hi, can I help you?" A brunette with kind eyes asked us politely.

I took my shades down my face as did Xander, "Room check-in."

"Are you guys together or-"

"No," We answered firmly in unison.

"Ok then, your names please?"

"Gina Banks and Ryan Davis," I told her. The woman's fingers moved in spasms against the keyboard.

"Ok," She retrieved two cards and slid them against the counter toward us, "Enjoy your stay . . . and you," She focussed on Xander and handed him a ripped piece of paper. "Lemme know if wanna have a good time."

She winked and Xander flashed his charming smile, "Why thank you darling."

Seriously?

As we walked off, Xander smiled down at the piece of paper. But I snatched it out of his hand and tossed it into the nearest garbage.

"Hey!" He frowned.

"We don't have time for you and your little Bond girls," I glared.

"Y'know that's my favorite American movie, yeah?"

I rolled my eyes as we got into the elevator. Once we got to our floor, Xander and I each unlocked our rooms with the keycards. Underneath the slit for the keycard was a keypad.

"We're on sight," I notified Luke as I swung my black duffle bag on the bed. I already knew Avalon and Kimber checked in a while ago. I decided to break up the times to avoid the slightest bit of suspicion.

"Ok good, I'm sitting in the lobby now. No sight of him."

"And Jett?"

"I don't know, Kimber has him on her com."

Right then, a knock came to my door. I went to open to see Kimber, Avalon and Xander standing before me. I jerked my head for them to come inside.

"Which one of you have Jett on their com, I wanna talk to him."

Kimber took her earpiece from her ear and gave it to me.

"Jett, it's Grey."

"Oh hey sis, kinda climbin' the back of a twenty story building right now," He replied with casualty. "Tom Cruise made this look so much easier in the movie," His voice sounded strenuous.

"Are you almost there?"

"Almost. I should be at the Emergency Exit on the roof in no time. Did you find Emerson?"

"No that's why I need you in here, Luke hasn't spotted him yet."

"Alright, alright I'm coming."

I gave the com back to Kimber.

"So I guess we just . . . wait?" Avalon sat on my bed.

"Pretty much," Xander huffed, sitting himself on the grey sofa. The hotel was definitely a nice size with two Queen beds, flat screen tv with a couch and mahogany coffee table.

Time went by and the room was quiet. Xander was slumped in his seat with his eyes closed while us girls quietly conversed about irrelevant things on my bed. Until Kimber stopped mid-sentence, she pressed a finger against her ear.

"Jett's in the building, he just needs to change into his casual clothes."

"Good," I was relieved.

"Any sign of Emerson, Skywalker?"

"Nope. I'm at the bar now," He notified. "All this stalking made me thirsty."

I sighed and threw myself onto my bed.

"Look I'm sorry ok I didn't see you, just chill out man!"

I shot up into an upright position when I heard Luke's voice again, "What happened?"

"I knocked into some dude and he flipped out," He answered. "Oh wait . . . That was him. Oh shoot that was Leo Emerson."

"Well go follow him you twit!" I yelled irritatedly.

"Jett's on it, he's getting in the elevator with him now."

"Xander get up," I ordered. He opened his eyes rubbed the slumber out of them. "What happened?"

"Grey," Kimber pointed at me. "13th floor. Go. Take the stairs. And Jett, stall him until Grey gets there."

I quickly took off my jacket, grabbed my foundation compact along with a rusty penny and rushed out of the room. I dashed toward  to the door that led to the staircase at the end of the hall. Right away, it smelled like sweat among the suffocating stuffy air. It made me travel faster, heels and all.

"Oh god," I cringed.

When I could finally breath once on the 13th floor, I spotted Jett rounding the corner.

"Room 213," He mumbled as he walked passed me, back to the elevator. I nodded and peeked around the corner. There he was, putting in the code to unlock his room. I knew he'd rather use the keypad instead of his card.

Leo disappeared into his room and I checked my surroundings. I walked to his door and kneeled, with my eyes squinted at the keypad.

I opened my foundation compact, revealing a smooth surface of the untouched powder. I took the penny in my hand and rubbed it against the foundation, causing a disruption in its smoothness. The foundation was now loose.

I positioned the compact right across from the keypad and blew the foundation dust toward the keys. The fresh finger prints on the keys would allow for the foundation to stick to them. Thus, revealing the code to unlock his room.

48126.

I repeated it to myself  in a whisper as I headed for the elevator. Once on the eighth floor, I knocked on my door and Avalon opened it.

"48126," I sauntered in, receiving puzzled looks from the team.

"That was fast how'd you get the code?" Avalon asked incredulously.

I set the foundation and penny down, "Not the point. We need a diversion to get him out of his room so we can get the diamonds back. We're actually making good timing."

"Ok so . . . what's the plan?" Kimber asked. Suddenly three pairs of eyes were on me. The pressure started to set in. They were all relying on me. However this mission turned out, I'd carry the fault.

But an idea sparked in my head and I turned my head to Avalon.

"What?" She frowned. The team averted their gaze to Avalon as well, catching on my plan.

"No," Avalon answered sternly. "No! Why do I have to do it!"

I whipped my hair off my shoulder and paced back and forth, "Here's what you're gonna do. Go down to his room, knock on his door. He opens it, you apologize and tell him it was the wrong door. But," I raised my index. "Here's the fun part. Ask him out."

"I'm gonna what?!" She shrieked in disbelief and the team laughed.

"Just be causal with it. Y'know, notice his appearance, he'll notice yours, and then ask if he wants to go down to the cafe with you," I told her. "Simple."

Avalon sighed.

"Now get goin'," I clapped. "Get out of here, go go."

"Ah man this is gonna be good," Xander laughed.

"Shut up Xander," Avalon called as she made her way to the door.

AVALON

I roughly teased my long fiery red orange hair after I knocked. I could hear footsteps progressing toward the door, my heart pounded.

Here we go Ava, act cutesy and you'll be fine.

"Can I help you?" Leo opened the door with a puzzled expression.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry," I apologized. "I was just trying to find my friend, guess I got the doors mixed up."

"It's ok," He smiled.

Take notice of his appearance, Grey's words echoed in my mind.

He was attractive with tan skin, brown hair and black thick rimmed glasses. I giggled shyly and pushed a strand of hair behind my ear.

Sell the deal Ava, sell it.

"This is gonna sound a bit crazy but . . . do you wanna go get something from the cafe with me?" I fiddled with my fingers before meeting his locking gaze.

"Well I'd be stupid to say no to a pretty girl," He flashed a smile and closed the door behind him.

"Ok," I smiled widely and we walked down the hall together.

"So uh, where ya from?" I asked.

GREY

"That was the code phrase. It's time," I stalked out of the bathroom dressed in my suit.
I slipped on my black leather gloves as did Xander.

"Society just cut the hallway cams," Kimber locked and loaded her gun.

"Good now let's go," I jerked my head toward the door and we all exited the room.

"We should take the stairs, it's-"

"Thank you for the suggestion," I cut Xander off snippily.

"Watch it Liara."

I whipped around, "Or what?"

Kimber swatted at Xander as she sped ahead of us, "Knock it off."

When we made it onto Leo's floor, I punched in the code to his room while Kimber and Xander surveyed our surroundings.

"Jett and Luke are supposed to stand guard they better be close," I mumbled as we entered the room.

"They're on their way," Kimber notified.

"Alright," I glanced at my watch. "We don't have much time so let's get to it."

The three of us dispersed in different directions of the spacious room. We checked the obvious places first. Under the bed, the nightstand drawers, under the duvet, under the couch.

Xander searched in the little lounge area, while Kimber searched the cabinets beneath a sink by the door. We were each persistent and searched every crevice, every crack, every or anything that looked out of place to the slightest degree.

To no avail.

The three of us came back together, defeated. We had to think harder.

"Wait a minute what was in the nightstand drawer?" Xander asked me. I looked at him and it seemed as if the same thought went through your minds.

Xander zoomed to the drawer and pulled out the heavy book. Kimber and I followed. He sat on the bed, paged through the book.

Our eyes widened.

An exact precise cut through the thin yellow pages, with the necklace lying in it.

"Bingo," Kimber smiled slyly.

Xander's glove clad hands cautiously picked up the necklace. We marveled at its design and twinkling diamonds.

"Gimme the bag."

Kimber took out a small black velvet pouch and opened it. Xander carefully let the jewels slip into the bag and Kimber secured it shut.

The three of us let out a breath of relief.

"Abort mission! Abort mission!" Avalon's urgent voice in my ear com alarmed me.

"What?" I frowned, moving toward the lounge area.

"Get out of there!"

Before I could even react, the door busted open to two well built men. Xander slowly walked toward me. Kimber was several feet ahead of us, bag in hand.

"Nobody move," One of them barked. Both retrieved a gun from their side and held us at gun point.

We slowly rose our hands up in a surrender.
Leo stormed in with Avalon behind him.

"Dangit," I hissed.

"Take out all your weapons," Leo's goon ordered us. We followed suit and reluctantly slid our guns across the floor toward them.

"Look this doesn't have to be a blood bath, just hand over my necklace and this will all go away."

Xander turned his head to me and I met his gaze. We held our stare for a long while. He communicated to me through his trance worthy eyes. I made eye contact with Avalon by the door and she nodded.

Leo turned around to her and pulled a gun on her, "I was really starting to like you."

Avalon kicked the gun from his hand, caught it and slapped it against his cheek.

I kicked the coffee table and Xander kicked it up with the tip of his foot. He pulled me down, behind the table and an array of gun shots sounded.

We laid low behind our makeshift cover as the chaos unfolded.

"Good plan," I breathed.

He smiled, hastily standing to his feet as did I.

Kimber and Avalon took on Leo and his men. I kicked the side up table with force and it crashed into Goon Number One's legs mid fight. He tripped and landed on the floor on the other side of the table.

Before he could even get up, Kimber tossed me a tranquil gun from the other side of the room. I shot him in the leg and he was out like a light.

The other Goon knocked Kimber to the floor and came after Xander. But I chucked my gun at his head with a determined grunt. Xander  swung at his jaw and jabbed his knee into his stomach.

Kimber, still on the floor, put a tranquil into Goon Number Two's calve.

I turned my head and saw Leo at Avalon's mercy with his shaky hands in a surrender. Avalon held him a gunpoint. It wasn't a tranquil gun either.

"Avalon don't do it," I told her. She shifted her eyes to me with a heaving chest.

"It's Vera's orders," She looked back to Leo.

"I know but this is my mission, just don't shoot him!"

"Liara what are y-"

"Shut up Xander!" I yelled. "I know what I'm doing."

I moved toward Avalon, "Drop the gun."

She wrapped her finger around the trigger. I grabbed her wrist and averted her shot upward. The gunshot sounded and I kneed her in the stomach, swinging my fist to her jaw.

"I told you to drop the gun!"

Avalon regained herself and came at me head first, wrapping her arms around my waist. I fell back with a smack and Avalon straddled me.

Leo tried to escape, but that Xander and Kimber took care of it from what I could see. Avalon tried to punch me but I caught her fist and smashed my forehead onto hers. She groaned and I shoved her off of me.

"Kimber!"

She tossed me the tranquil gun and I shot Xavier in the back. I breathed strenuously and dropped the gun.

The door swung open to Jett, "Security is on their way we gotta go!"

Avalon staggered to her feet and Kimber helped me up. I grabbed the bag of diamonds on the floor and stuffed them in Leo's pocket on my way out.

*

I held an ice pack to my head as I watched the news channel back in my hotel room. The whole team was present, we watched Leo and his men get arrested for their crime in contentment. My room was dark with only the tv light gleaming on our faces.

The commotion had died down, it was late. Tension still floated in the air between Avalon and I but that didn't phase me.

Avalon walked to the mini fridge and pulled out a glass bottle of alcohol.

"I think we all deserve this," She wiggled the bottle and the team agreed in unison.

"I'll get the glasses," Kimber got up from my bed with enthusiasm.

She handed a glass to each one of us and Avalon poured the unknown liquid into our glasses.

Xander took my glass before the glass could reach my lips, "Can't drink yet Liara."

I squinted at him.

"Grey," Kimber called. "The mission was a success."

"Proud of you sis," Jett draped his arm around me and pulled me into his side.

"Good job G, knew you could pull this off," Luke complimented.

"Why thank you," I smiled. "Now everyone get out I'm tired."

They finished up their drinks in a gulp, bid their goodnights and left. Luke and Jett had a late flight back to Society Headquarters to give Vera the mission report. The rest of us leave tomorrow.

Just as I was about to unwind, a knock came to my door. I walked to the door and opened it to see Xander standing before me.

"I left my jacket."

"Oh," I left the door to retrieve his black jacket from my bed. "Here."

He took it into his hands, "Thanks . . . You did good today Liara."

"Thanks," I smiled weakly.

"Queen V isn't gonna be happy to find out that Emerson isn't dead but, the mission was still a success. You did the right thing," He said with sincerity.

I nodded with my lips pressed into a thin line, my gaze focused on the floor. The atmosphere between us felt . . . different.

"Well goodnight," He said.

"Goodnight."

I leaned against the door frame as I watched Xander walk down the hall.

But then he stopped and stood there for a few moments. My heart pounded when he turned around and walked back toward me.

He dropped his jacket like a deadweight and pushed his lips against mine.
