• CHAPTER SEVEN•

Happen Upon |

If there was anything that Dream learnt during his journey, it was that Technoblade was even quieter than Dream had known. Sure the guy wasn't the most talkative on a normal day, but since they had left the main SMP, there was little to no conversation between them both. Only when words needed to be spoken did they.

And thus, they travelled in relative silence, their horses the only sound in this almost eerie quiet wilderness.

Dream tugged his scarf closer to his neck as the chill seemed to only grow worse. He eyed Technoblade, who was upfront, the bastard doesn't even look affected, stupid Piglin heritage.

Mentally grumbling about how it wasn't fair, a part of Dream thought he could just change his form since he was more immune to temperature in that one but ultimately decided against it. Dream hated shifting when there wasn't a battle to win, he didn't like others just knowing about that advantage. Even after all this time, only a handful knew the fact he was a blessed human.

Still, they had been travelling for four days, resting only at night and covering as much ground as possible during the day. Somehow Technoblade had seemed to pick up on...something right away.

A human fucking compass is what Technoblade is; Dream doubts there's anyone else in this world that could do what Technoblade could.

(Maybe it was Piglin part of him, that pack mentality and instinct to make sure they were safe. It was a known fact Piglin hybrids were more capable of locating those they considered part of the...pack—no, sounder, that was it—than any other species. It was pure magic, especially to see it at work, Dream admitted.)

The faint layer of snow that had settled last night crunched beneath their horses' hooves and Dream wondered just how far Tommy had managed to go being so damn unprepared. They had found no makeshift shelters or evidence he had even been here but Technoblade was very adamant that Tommy had come in this direction.

(Again—part of his instincts???)

Technoblade pulled Carl to a stop and raised a hand, Dream brought Gally to a stop as well, watching as Technoblade climbed off Carl's back.

He approached a tree that Dream could now see an arrow protruding from. Technoblade tugged it free and raised it to his nose, sniffing. He frowned, "Strange..."

"Strange?" Dream echoed, "How?"

"There's someone's scent on here that I..." He trailed off, pursing his lips as he scanned their surroundings. He moved again and Dream swung himself off Gally's back to join Technoblade as he stepped up to the small hole in the ground.

A Creeper blast. Anyone could tell it was a Creeper blast.

"I think Tommy had help from someone."

"You sound confident," Dream pursed his lips, curious.

"I am," Technoblade gave him an unimpressed glance—seemingly for the oh so stupid question and obvious answer. It was always good to confirm, idiot—that Dream rolled his hidden eyes too.

"So he got into a fight with some monsters and this person just so happened to swoop in and save the day?" Dream theorised, how lucky did Tommy have to be for that to happen?

Technoblade looked around again, "Probably. If I was to guess, I'd say they live in this area," then quickly, muttered, "It's been a long while since I've been here. Is this...?"

Clearly, Technoblade was familiar with the area to some extent then. Dream wonders how he hadn't met them yet. He was sure he and the others had passed through the area before finding the SMP to claim.

"What's the chance Tommy stayed with them?" Dream questioned since Technoblade was Tommy's brother he was bound to know more about his fight or flight response than Dream was in this sort of situation.

A beat where Techno thumbed his bottom lip thoughtfully, "Depends on the person..."

"You're very familiar with the scent on the arrow, aren't you?" Dream accused, recalling Technoblade's comment from moments before.

Techno tensed.

Bingo.

"Who is it?"

So, Dream admittedly hadn't stepped foot outside the SMP Region in years, not since he had claimed it as his own. He had seen no need to, not when his friends are in the SMP with him. He hadn't done much recon on the edges of his land either-—again, only really when finding the area did anyone explore out this far but no one said anything—so he had no idea about this person living so close to his borders in the no-mans land.

Well, he supposed it wasn't no-mans-land if this person was living on it...

Either way, Dream had no idea who this person could be and if Technoblade of all people knew them...

"If it's the person I'm thinking, she'll happily offer her home to him."

Her.

At least that was something, he supposed. But it piped his curiosity further because Techno knew a woman? It amused Dream more than he would ever admit.

He said as much to Techno about the fact he actually knew people, let alone a woman.

"Watch it," was the snipped response, "Y/N isn't someone to mess with just because she sounds harmless."

Y/N

"Besides," he continued, glaring at Dream, "My relationships are none of your damn business, you stupid telly tubby."

"Resorting to name-calling are we?" Dream smirked, "I was simply making my amazement at the fact you of all people managed to make friends."

Dream gasped when he was grabbed by the collar of his shirt, he kicked his feet as he was lifted off the ground.

"Put me the fuck down," he snarled.

"How about you kept your fucking mouth shut about stuff you have no clue about, huh? Maybe if you weren't such a horrible person, more people might actually like you."

Damn, hit it where it hurts why don't you.

When Tommy had decided to venture outside today, he had expected to have a simple walk around Y/N's land.

He hadn't realised he had wandered so far, back towards the place he had first met Y/N until he began to hear voices.

What the fuck?

More importantly, who the fuck?

"Put me the fuck down," A voice snarled, one that Tommy would know anywhere. Holy shit, that was Dream.

"How about you kept your fucking mouth shut about stuff you have no clue about, huh? Maybe if you weren't such a horrible person, more people might actually like you," and that was Technoblade.

Why the fuck were they out here?

Panic ate away at his heart, yet his feet moved him closer, not away. A subconscious part of him having to know if this really was Technoblade and Dream and not just a figment of his imagination.

Their forms came into sight and Tommy choked on his spit.

Immediately, Technoblade dropped Dream, who landed on his backside in the snow.

Both head's snapped in Tommy's direction.

"Tommy?" Technoblade sucked in a breath, "Shit."

"Wha...What?" Tommy barely managed to get out in his shock.

How?

Technoblade moved and immediately Tommy backed away warily. The hybrid stopped short at his movement, a confused furrow pulling at his brows, "Tommy, what's wrong?"

"Why are you both out here?"

"Why are we—?" Technoblade spluttered before throwing his hands up, "Why the hell do you think we're out here? To find you, you idiot!"

"You could have at least left a note to tell me you were planning on running," Dream adds, brushing the snow off himself as he stood, "Do you know the panic I felt when I found you weren't in Logstedshire? You made me think something bad had happened! Made me think you might be dead!"

"But what if that's what I wanted?"

For a long beat, neither of them responded, Technoblade stared at him with wide eyes of shock where Dream had stopped short of approaching. Then that stillness was broken as Technoblade stormed forward, Tommy backed up, stumbling with wide eyes.

"What the fuck do you mean by that!" Technoblade barked.

This was not how Tommy pictured his day going.
