"Good morning," ... "Ry, wake up."

I feel cold hands on my neck and I slowly open my eyes. The room is bright and it takes a while for my eyes to adjust.

Kylee is laying next to me and I notice my white shirt loosely covering her shoulders. "Good morning," I grumble. She leans in and plants a kiss on my cheek before sitting up. Her hand makes its way down my bare back tracing circles here and there.

"I am feeling nice today, so I'm going to make breakfast, okay?" She asks.

"You don't have to. I can make it after my shower." I say sitting up and turning around in bed. The sheets slide down my upper half and land a little below my belly button.

"Ry, don't waste my good mood." She warns. I nod and she gets up and walks toward the kitchen. My shirt hangs down to about mid-thigh on her. She had put on some fuzzy socks as well, which shows her tiny figure a little more.

The door closes and my calendar sways side to side on the back of it. It's Monday January 21st.

I look to the window. The sun is up and shines into the room. I see my clothes from last night on the chair next to the window and lean over to grab my pants. I pull the covers off and slip my pants on not bothering to button them up.

Then I head to my closet and grab my workout sweatshirt and sweats. In the bathroom I see Kylee's clothes from last night next to the sink and move them over.

I start with brushing my teeth and washing my face. I shave then turn the hot water on in the shower.

"Smells good," I say walking into the kitchen. Kylee looks back at me and smiles.

"It has been so long since the last time I've cooked," she says going to the cabinet. She pulls out two of my white plates and a bigger tan one.

"What's the third plate for?" I ask.

"Fruit!" She says with a tone saying 'you should know this'.

"Ah... right," I say taking a seat behind a plate. Kylee has been on the weird only fruits and egg whites diet. If we go to a restaurant where they don't serve egg whites we will go from restaurant to restaurant to find one.

Kylee goes to my fridge and I see a frown. "I thought I told you to go to the store yesterday?" She says agitated.

"Yeah, then I got that call from Karen remember?" I said calmly. Kylee has a high temper and I was not in the mood to tip it in the wrong direction.

"You could've gone after that." Kylee says.

"After my call I noticed I was already late to the dinner with my friends." Once again I say this as calmly as I can.

"Ry..." Kylee sighs and puts her elbows down on the counter. "Are we going to have to argue again?" She asks. In my head all I'm thinking is 'you're starting it'.

"No. I'll go get fruit now then." I say getting up from my chair and heading to the bedroom.

"No!" Kylee yells. I turn back to her and see her eyes start to water.

She looks up at me. "I made you breakfast and all you want to do now is leave!"

"What are you talking about?" I say noticing my tone is also getting agitated.

"That's what you always do! You always find a way out of an argument, that you started, before I get a say in anything!" She yells.

"Have you taken your medicine?" I ask aware that her temper is getting out of hand.

"Don't change the subject!!" She screams at me.

I put my hands in the air. "Kylee. Calm down. I'm not fighting with you." I say staying where I'm at.

Kylee's breathing is quick, but her face is getting red as if she's holding it in. Every time this happens nothing ends well.

Last time I so-called "fought" with her, she keyed my new Honda Civic I had gotten a week before. She had blamed it on her missing her medication that morning and bought us dinner that night.

Was I a little mad she didn't pay for the new paint for my car... yes a little bit, but I guess the frozen meal from Dillons was worth more to Kylee.

I try my luck and take a step toward her. Wrong choice.

Kylee yells and pushes the glass fruit plate to the floor. It shatters and she goes for the white plates next. Those are a weird plastic, thankfully, and didn't break.

She then walks to the other cabinets, but I have had enough of this. I run around the counter and grab her hands before she reaches the handle.

"Enough!" I yell.

Kylee looks up at me surprised. There's a look of anger in her eyes. "That's enough Kylee," I say a little more calm.

She tries to pull her hand out of my grip, but I hold tighter.

"Ow, Ry you're hurting me." She gives a fake whimper.

"Kylee, I'm not being lenient this time." I say. At this she pushes me with her spare hand and I step back.

Then a deafening scream comes out of me that I have never heard before. Searing pain runs through my foot and into my leg.

I immediately fall to the floor and reach for the source of the pain. I see a shard of the glass plate and a bunch of blood. Without even knowing another yell comes from me.

"Call 911!" I yell looking at Kylee. She looks down at me with eyes full of fear. She looks faint and she reaches for the counter.

"Kylee!" I grit my teeth trying to form words. "Please call 911!"

Finally Kylee comes to reality and she runs to the phone. I stay on the other side of the counter holding my foot. Another round of pain shoots through my foot and I hold back a yell.

"Hello? I need an ambulance here right now!" I hear Kylee say into the phone. "My friend cut his foot on glass and is bleeding a lot." she explains.

It takes me a while to realize she called me "friend"... but the thought leaves faster than it came because the pain returns. I feel light headed and my body gives away and I fall back against the counter.

"Ry?" Kylee runs around the counter. "Oh my gosh, he's passing out!" She yells.

The room becomes really bright and I loose consciousness hearing Kylee give my address to the person on the phone.

"Ryan stay with me!"

————

It's been two days and I'm still in the hospital. I don't remember much from what happened except when the ambulance arrived and Kylee going to her car in the clothes she wore last night.

Paramedics in the ambulance asked me many questions and then I was put under with some anesthesia. When I woke up in the hospital my foot was wrapped in big white wraps and was suspended on a pillow.

My room was dim and I could hear the machine beep with my pulse.

The smell of antibiotics was in the air and Kylee was nowhere to be seen.

The doctor came in and explained that I will be needing stitches and that they stopped the bleeding just in time.

My surgery for the stitches was scheduled for today in about an hour.

My sister, Riley, had flown in yesterday evening from Colorado and was staying with me until I got out of the hospital. Even though it's her workday, Wednesday, she still came.

"How'd it happen?" She had asked after getting comfortable.

"Kylee." Was all I had to say for her to understand.

"I don't see why you put up-" Riley started to say, but I cut her off.

"I'm going to break up with her," I said bluntly. Riley looked at me and nodded.

Now we are both waiting for the doctor to come in and say he's ready.

"Mom says hi," Riley says not looking up from her phone.

"You know I don't want to talk to Karen." I say.

Riley nods, "yeah, but she actually seems worried."

I laugh at this, "you can tell over text?" She laughs too.

"I know you may not like her, but she's still our mom"

I sigh, "Maybe to you, but what she did isn't forgivable."

"Fair point," She says and the doctor walks in.

————

"See you in December," I say waving to Riley after she drops me off after getting discharged from the hospital.

She waves and drives out of the driveway. Then she stops and I see her look from Kylee's car back to me. I give her a nod saying I've got it covered and she drives away.

Using my crutches I walk through the garage. It takes me a bit getting up the stairs before I make it to the door.

"Ry!" Kylee yells as I open the door. "I saw you and Riley pull up just now."

In my head in saying 'and you decided not to help me get up the stairs and through the door?' But instead I say "Oh really?"

"Yeah..." she fades off, "does it hurt?"

I shake my head, "No, I'm on pain meds." She makes an 'o' shape with her mouth and I sit on a bar stool.

"Your neighbor said she saw what happened and came over to clean up the mess." Kylee says sitting in the chair next to me.

"Ah, I noticed it was pretty clean in here."

Kylee looks at the floor then up at me. "Is something wrong?" She asks.

I notice this is my chance and sigh. "Yeah there actually is." I collect myself and look at Kylee. "I think we should break up."

She takes a a second to register. "I'll take my medication more often." She says quickly.

"No-" I start but she cuts me off.

"I'll make breakfast. Without eggs. I'll go to any restaurant you want. I'll give up my diet. I'll eat steak or anything you want me too. I'll stay with you all day. I won't drink wine. I'll try-" her rant was getting out of control and she was starting to shake.

"Kylee!" I say loud enough for her to stop. "Listen okay?" I set down my crutches against the counter.

"Ry, please." The last time she said this was the third time we had almost broken up. I had fallen for it back then but I couldn't handle the relationship anymore.

"Kylee. We don't work together. We argue over the little things, which is usually started by you, but is blamed on me. I have doubts about the so-called love we have and I want to feel like a free man. I don't want to worry about whether or not you took your medicine or if there are egg whites at a restaurant I've been wanting to eat at. I am breaking up with you here and now and you have to accept that at some point. Yes, we've had good times. We've slept together plenty and that's not the problem. The problem is that I don't love you and I know you don't love me."

With that I stand, grab my crutches and head to the bedroom. As I close the door I hear a crash come from the kitchen.

"Ugh, why did I have to date the crazy one?" I mumble.
