CHARLOTTE sat at her desk sipping on a warm cup of coffee going over some of the resumes that had been sent to her.  Being in charge of a well established au pair agency was not easy. People often have the misconception that all they do is babysit the children of the rich and famous but while looking after children is one of their main focuses; the agency also tutors them in academics, art and music. Not only were all of their employees smart and able but they also spoke various languages and had the ability to play numerous instruments.

Having her position wasn't that great sometimes, and reading the countless applications they received was definitely on the top of that list and the stack before her proved that.

She rolled her eyes as she read over one of the applicants CV, not only were there countless spelling mistakes, the girl had little to no qualification but she actually used a selfie instead of the standard passport photo that was asked.

Charlotte rolled her eyes and added it into the rejection pile. Sadly this is not the first time that she's gotten this sort of application. Many girls apply to their company with the plan of landing a job to look after the child of a wealthy family, with the hope of somehow catching the attention of one of the members, falling in love and running off into a Parisian sunset.

"Ms. Stein, a Mrs. De Luca is here to see you." announced Marie, her assistant.

Isabelle De Luca was the wife of the extremely successful but retired businessman, Enzo De Luca. He made a name for himself by opening a chain of well known and highly luxurious hotels and resorts around the world. They also own an investment company as well as a large vineyard in Italy that exports a variety of exclusive wines. Enzo was definitely a man with his fingers in many puddings.

When Charlotte received and email from Mrs. De Luca asking to set up an interview to discuss a potential job opportunity a few days ago, she was absolutely ecstatic. Having a family with a reputation like the De Luca's on their company roster will defiantly boost their status. She also made sure to do her homework on the family, wanting to be fully prepared for this meeting.

She found out that they had four children, Marco, Nicolas, Natalia and Maximo. Two of the sons, Marco and Nicolas, helped in both family businesses. While Natalia had recently opened up her very own design company and Maximo had just graduated from a university in London.

"Send her in please." replied Charlotte.

The doors of her office opened and in walked a woman wearing an elegant ensemble. A beige tweed jacket and skirt on top of a plain cream colored blouse matched with some nude heels and a designer purse in her hands. A string of pearls around her neck and a pair of diamond studs completed her look. Not forgetting the pop of colour that came in the presence of a bold red lip. This woman was a sight to behold. She carried herself with such confidence and class but had a surprising welcoming aura around her.

"Mrs. De Luca it's wonderful to finally meet you. Please have a seat" said Charlotte while shaking the woman's hand while gesturing to one of the two white leather chairs positioned in front of her desk.

"Like wise, sweetheart" replied Isabelle.

"So for the positions we discussed via email. I'd like to ask more questions so that I can narrow down the list of candidates to better suit the needs of the child" Charlotte said while taking out her note pad, she always preferred writing down notes on paper rather than keying then into her computer.

"Well, I need someone who is patient but not a push-over, someone who will teach remind him to use his manners and bring him down a few notches when his head gets too big. The person needs to be persistent and not give into he's whims or suggestions because he can be very persuasive at times" As Mrs. De Luca spoke Charlotte wrote down the characteristics, already making a metal list of people she saw fit for this job.

They continued to discuss the position and what Isabelle would like to gain from hiring their company.

"That's great Mrs. De Luca, I'll make a list of possible candidates and maybe we could set up an interview sometime next week?" asked Charlotte.

"Actually dear, I don't think that it would be necessary," said Isabelle, Charlotte looked up at the woman with utter confusion.

"I don't understand Mrs. De Luca, if you already had someone in mind for this job why would you agree to attend this meeting?"

"No sweetheart, I've made up my mind just now," she said with a proud smile, "I think that you would be the perfect person for this position."

"Mrs. De Luca I'm sorry but I can't, I have other responsibilities that I need to attend to but I can assure you that I would find someone who will fit your requirements" replied Charlotte.

"No Ms. Stein, I think that you would be the perfect person for this job and I'm sure that you can find someone else to help you with your other tasks." Mrs. De Luca said with a suggestive smile.

"Mrs. De Lu-"

"If you are not willing to accept my offer surely they are other agencies in this city that will be able assist me and meet my needs." Isabelle cut in before she couldn't finish her sentence.

Charlotte watched as Mrs. De Luca stood up readying herself to leave. She knew that they needed the business the family would bring to their company. They will definitely get ten times the amount of business they do currently.

"'Mrs. De Luca wait," Charlotte sighed, " You don't have to leave, I'll do it."

Isabelle beamed, she knew that tactic would work, it always did. In order to get what you want sometimes you needed to be a little sneaky.

"That's great news Ms. Stein, I'm glad you changed your mind. " she said generally delighted with the fact that Charlotte accepted her offer.

As Isabelle De Luca was about to walk out the door Charlotte remembered something she forgot to inquire about earlier, "Mrs. De Luca, I'm sorry but this slipped my mind earlier. Who exactly will I be looking after?" asked Charlotte.

"Don't worry dear you'll find out soon. I shall send you a message later on with the time and address" Mrs. De Luca replied with a slightly mischievous smirk, "See you tomorrow."

As Isabelle left her office, Charlotte shook her head wondering what she had gotten herself into. It's been about 3 and a half years since she was out on an actual job. Ever since she got promoted her main task was hiring competent personnel, interviewing clients and creating schedules.

Taking a deep breath trying to compose herself and ease the oncoming headache. Reminding herself that the De Luca's were a powerful family and their business was needed to promote the company.

"Marie," she called her assistant into her office, "Please clear my entire schedule for tomorrow."

"Is there something wrong Char?" asked Marie in a concerned voice, and using the nickname she's been given since childhood. Marie has been with Charlotte since she got promoted, and as they were pretty much the same age they have grown quite close to each other.

"No," sighed Charlotte, "I need to meet with the De Luca's to discuss the performance of the child and also set up an aim as well as any specific areas that the parents would like me to work on with their child."

"But why do you have to go?"

"Because Mrs. Isabelle De Luca requested, no-no, she insisted that I personally take this job." Charlotte explained, "Then threatened to take her business elsewhere if I refused."

Marie let out a little chuckle, "Do you still remember what to do? It's been about 4 years since your last job hasn't it?" She teased.

"Marie! Need I remind you that the reason I was promoted to this position? And plus, it's not like you forget how to act around a child." said Charlotte.

"So who exactly will you be looking after?" Marie asked curiously.

"That I don't know exactly, when I asked she just told me that she would send me a time and address later."

"Well Char, I can't wish you anything but luck" said Marie leaving her office with a wink.

AFTER stopping by the local supermarket to pick up a few groceries she needed, Charlotte could finally spend the rest of her evening relaxing at home. Today had been quite stressful, with measles going around many of the nannies had called in sick. Charlotte had to rearrange all the schedules trying her best not to cancel on any of their customers.

As she unlocked the door to her apartment, she immediately felt at ease. Charlotte didn't have the most extravagant place out there, but it was home. The decor and colour scheme gave off a comfortable vibe that she loved.

The way Charlotte chose to decorate her apartment fused modern patterns with classic and comfortable accents. She was always excited to get home in the evenings, so she could finally lay back and relax, but most of all she was excited to snuggle up on her large sofa, with a warm cup of tea and a bowl of spicy crisps while enjoying a romantic comedy.

Going into the kitchen she set down her bags of groceries on the counter and packed away the variety of things that she bought.

Charlotte has always loved to cook since she was younger, she learned by watching her grandmother  in the kitchen, and slowly began to fill the pages of her very own recipe book. She loved how ingredients that tasted so different on their own blended together to produce an absolutely spectacular flavor.

She took out the necessary ingredients to make a simple pasta bake. She chopped the vegetables and chicken, mixed in the creamy cheese sauce and boiled the pasta. Then added them into an oven dish and topped it with freshly grated Parmesan.

While waiting for her dinner to cook Charlotte decided to take a nice warm shower, the water ran over her body and relaxed her tense muscles. After her shower she dressed into her pj's, dished herself a generous bowl of pasta and took a seat in front of the TV.

Charlotte replayed the events of the day, why would Isabelle need her for this position, her mind wondered over all the possibilities. Maybe there was a secret grandchild who needed tutoring? A current grandchild who wasn't doing too well in their academics or extracurricular activities? Or maybe Isabelle needs to company and is using this as a cover to gain a new personal assistant?

She didn't know but she would definitely find out the next day.
