Sick

Ella's pov:

Ever since I woke up this morning, I haven't been feeling the best.

Usually I start off my mornings pretty well. Even though it can be hard getting out of bed, what typically motivates me is getting to see my friends and boyfriend everyday.

But instead of being excited to start the day, I felt pretty miserable.

My head was throbbing, my throat was sore, and to be honest, I felt like I got ran over by a bus in my sleep.

"You don't look too good, are you okay honey?" My mom asks, standing by the front door while crossing her arms over her chest as she watches me pack my school bag for the day.

"Yeah, I think I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed." I lie, cringing at the awful sound of my voice.

Not going to lie, I sound like I've been either smoking for sixty years or I've been stranded in the desert for three weeks without water.

In any case...

Not good.

"Are you sure? You are free to stay home and take the day off from school." She says, moving forward to feel my forehead, but I quickly step back, shaking my head.

"Really, I'm okay. Plus, I have this big essay due today for English. I don't want her to think I skipped school just so I had another day to turn it in."

She stares at me for a second, debating whether to ask me anymore questions or not before taking a deep breath.

"If you say so, but please give me a call if you start to feel worse throughout the day. I will come and get you, got it?"

I nod my head before giving her a quick hug, just around the time that I see a familiar car pull up to our driveway.

"Ally! Luke's here!" I call out, watching her run down the stairs.

"I'm ready." She says, following me out the door.

Opening the passenger seat to the car, I give a big smile to Luke, to which he returns instantly, grabbing a hold of my hand as the other held the wheel.

"Hey beautiful." He says, caressing his thumb over my hand as I blush at his cute gesture.

"Nothing is better than third wheeling every single morning with my two favorite people." Ally jokes from the back, causing a chuckle from Luke and myself.

"It's okay Ally, one day you will find someone who you will fall head over heels with too. And next thing you know, we will be the ones having to watch all your lovey dovey-..."

Ally quickly interrupts me from continuing, covering her reddened face, "Okay, okay, I get it! Just drive Luke." She demands, while he playfully salutes.

"Yes ma'am." He says while I laugh at his goofy behavior.

But that quickly stops when I feel a shot of pain in my head.

Without thinking, I grab onto it while squeezing my eyes shut, waiting for it to quickly pass like all of the other ones did in the last hour or so.

"Are you okay baby?" Luke asks, noticing my sudden change in behavior. He gives me a worried glance before looking back at the road.

I quickly put my hand back down, trying to play it off as if it was normal, "Yeah, I'm all good. The sun just got in my eyes... pretty badly."

Well there goes the plan of playing it off normally.

"Are you sure that's the reason? You seem a little pale." He glances again worriedly, but I just give his hand a comforting squeeze.

"I won't be okay if you take your eyes away from the road one more time Luke Barrington." I change the subject as he pouts, but reluctantly, he listens to what I say and doesn't give me another glance.

Well at least, none that I know of.

After about ten minutes, we arrive at school.

Luke parks in his usual spot before quickly turning the car off and getting out to open my car door.

Taking my hand to help me out, he playfully bows and says "Your highness" before giving me a quick peck on my lips.

He's so cute.

"Even though you do this every single day, you still manage to make me blush. How is that, Luke Barrington?" I ask him, scrunching my nose as he bops it.

"My charms, they are just irresistible." He interlocks his hand with mine as we make our way towards the school after Ally, who already took off way ahead of us.

"Why is she in such a rush?" He asks, swinging our interlocked hands back and forth.

"She mentioned yesterday that she had to meet up with her group for history to talk about their presentation before school started." I recall her telling me yesterday.

Soon we enter the school, heading towards the second floor where our friend group usually meets up.

"And here come the two love birds." I could hear Gianna's voice from the end of the hallway as a small smile forms on my face.

While on the other hand, Luke lets out a playful scoff at her words.

"That's a little rich coming from the girl who would make out with her boyfriend in the middle of the hallway all last year." Luke says, earning a glare from Gianna.

"Well hello to you too Mr. Grumpy Pants." Gianna says back, flipping her hair before giving me a smile.

There's not even a right way to describe Luke and Gianna's friendship.

Ever since the first time I've witnessed them in the same room together, I realized how much they enjoy bickering with one another.

And although I could tell that they were close friends like all of us and would do anything for each other, sometimes it gets hard being stuck in the middle all the time.

Sometimes I feel like a parent rather than a best friend and a girlfriend.

"Well I mean, I don't see you denying it so..." Luke smirks, as Gianna rolls her eyes.

"Guys, not again." Julie says. I look up to see her covering an annoyed Damien's ears, who desperately tries to pry her hands away from his ears.

"I'm not a baby." He whines, while Julie only shakes her head.

"You're too young to know what making out is." Julie says, causing Damien to pout, while giving up on trying to pry her hands away.

Smart kid, he knew that no one could win against Julie.

Especially her boyfriend.

"It's not my fault that Jake showed up extremely attractive to school every single day! You would do the same if you were me." She crosses her arms over her chest.

Luke only shivers in disgust at her words, "If you're that curious, no, I never thought about making out with Jake. But now that you say that-..." He pretends to seem interested causing me to playfully nudge him.

"Oh great, I've never had to worry about other girls stealing you, but now I have to worry about Jake?" I say jokingly as he plays along.

"Sorry babe, bromance before romance."

"Not with my man you're not!" Gianna joins in playfully, but of course, it turns back into bickering.

They begin to go back and forth like they usually.

Normally, I would just sit and watch until one of them give up, in most instances Luke, or we have to stop them before a graveyard is involved...

...

In most instances Luke.

But this time, as they continued to bicker, I could feel my headache starting to reappear again, as it began to throb painfully.

Starting to feel dizzy, I take a few steps back, resting my head against the locker behind me as I try to blink back all the dark dots from forming.

"Oh my gosh Ella are you okay??!" Julie's rushes towards me worriedly as she grips my arm, inhibiting my body from swaying back and forth.

Gianna and Luke stop bickering while looking at me, noticing how my body was propped against the locker, while my eyes continue to blink repeatedly, trying to get rid of the black dots.

I try to nod my head, but it only causes another shot of pain, causing me to painfully clutch my head in my hands.

In one quick movement, Luke was in front of me, cradling my head to his chest.

Again, I try to say that there is nothing to worry about, but I suddenly start to feel my legs give out.

Luke senses this and while holding me close to him, he takes us to the ground, so that half my body was on his lap.

Luke places his hand on my forehead. Hearing his intake in breath, I already knew that what he felt wasn't good. Hinting that I most definitely had a fever and my forehead was burning.

"Don't you dare try to say that you are okay because you clearly aren't. Baby we are going home right now." Luke demands as he picks me up bridal style.

As much as I wanted to hit his chest and tell him to put me down because everyone in the hallway would see him carrying me, it felt as if all the energy was drained from my body.

Before he could even make it to the staircase, I felt myself slowly drifting off in his arms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Waking up, the first thing I felt was my sore throat.
My head ache didn't seem to be as bad, but it was still noticeable and quite bothersome.
It wasn't until I was more aware of my surroundings that I felt a cold rag on my forehead and a comfortable feeling under me.
Like I was on a bed.
...
Wait... a bed?!!
My eyes instantly shot open as I look around, realizing that I wasn't in my bedroom, but...
"Hey sleepyhead." I hear a soft voice call as I look up at the entrance of the room, seeing Luke walk in with medication in one hand and a glass of water in the other.
"Why am I... how did I?" I was confused, not exactly remembering how I got here.
I watch as Luke sets down the glass of water and the pill on his dresser before take a seat next to me on his bed.
"I took you to my house after you passed out in my arms." He says, caressing the side of my face gently while staring deep into my eyes.
"But why did I-... wait!!! What time is it?!" I frantically look around until I spot his clock, that read 3:00pm
"I missed school!!" I freak out, about to remove the covers off me until his hands stop me, slightly pushing me back until I was laying down and my head was rested on his soft pillow.
He then hovers over me, his arms on either side of my body, holding him up so that his body weight wasn't on me.
Not that I ever minded...
...
What?
I'm just saying.
"No you are staying here with me. I'm not letting you leave my watch until you have a normal fever and don't look like you're about to pass out. Do you know how worried I was about you marshmallow?" He says, using the name that I've soon came to adore.
But taking in his facial features for the first time, I began to notice the dark circles under his eyes and the way his hair was all over the place like he brushed his hand through it one too many times.
"I-... I'm sorry." I say, guilty that he had worried so much because I was stubborn and tried to act like I was okay when I really wasn't.
His eyes start to gloss as he shakes his head, before resting it against mine.
"It's not your fault, I should have known that you always try to seem okay even when you are not. If I would have been more aware then-... then-..." tears start to fall from his eyes as he begins to cry.
My heart clenches painfully as I wrap my arms around him, causing him to lightly fall onto my body.
He hides his face in my neck, trying to hide his tears, making me feel like the worst girlfriend in the world.
"Luke... please don't cry. It's not your fault at all! It's mine. I should have taken care of myself better and stayed home this morning when I knew I wasn't feeling well. Baby please don't be upset with yourself. You've done nothing but be the greatest boyfriend that any girl could ask for."
I rub his back soothingly until he begins to calm down, only a few sniffles being heard here and there.
"Please tell me if you ever feel unwell again. Even if it is barely nothing, I want to know when you are hurting. No I need to know, please marshmallow, promise me." He whimpers as he squeezes my body closer to his.
I nod my head, even though he couldn't see it, "I promise. Even if I am just being over dramatic over something small, I promise that I will tell you."
He removes his face from my neck as he looks up at me. I take my free hand and dry his tear stained face as he continues to gaze at me.
"I love you." He says, kissing my forehead lovingly.
I give him a small smile, "I love you too." Leaning forward, I connect my lips with his. It begins as a slow, but passionate kiss, until it became more of a needier one, like we both needed it as a reassurance to make sure the other one was really okay.
But that was until my eyes opened in sudden realization.
Pulling away, I try my best to push him back away from me, "I don't want to get you sick!" I say worriedly, but instead of moving back, he only laughs and pulls me closer.
"Baby, do you really think the risk of getting sick is going to keep me away from you?" He tickles my sides as I squirm from underneath him, giggling.
"But I-..." he interrupts my words with a kiss, and being to weak to resist, I kiss him back, earning a chuckle from him
"Plus," he begins to say, pulling away before giving me a smirk, "if I get sick, you'll just have to stick around to play nurse-..." he wasn't able to finish his sentence from me flicking him in the forehead.
"Owww!!! Ella-..." he whines while holding his forehead.
I laugh at his reaction before pecking his forehead where I flicked it.
"I love you~..." I sing as he gives me a playful glare, before it soon turns into a lovingly gaze as he rests his hand on the side of my face, slowly caressing my cheek, then to my lips where he pecks it one more time.
"I love you too, marshmallow."
The rest of the day was spent with cuddles, kisses, and food.
... I just wanted to include the food part because it was really appreciated.
I realized even more of how much of an amazing boyfriend I have...
... And I wouldn't trade him for the world.
