I sucked at bowling. I mean, really sucked.

Olivia, the girl from the diner, was amazing. Nearly every time she bowled, she got a strike. Me, on the other hand, was so bad that both Olivia and I decided to put the bumpers up so I could at least hit a few pins.

I didn't mind, though. The main thing I was focused on were the cheese fries (they really were bomb.) Olivia had paid for me and for the cheese fries, for whatever reason.

We finished our second game and she sits next to me.

"You hungry?" she asks.

I look pointedly at the thing of fries. "I've been eating these."

She shakes her head and smiles. "No. Like, for real food."

"Why are you doing this?" I ask.

She smiles and shrugs. She smiles a lot. She looks pretty when she smiles. "I'm new here. You looked lonely and I felt lonely, so I figured that we could both use a friend."

"Don't your parents care?"

"Care about what?"

"That you're spending your money on me."

She shakes her head. "They don't really care what I do, as long as I'm not spending hundreds of dollars every day."

"That's... awesome."

She shrugs. "Sure, if you have friends." She stands and offers me her hand. "Shall we?"

We walk out of the bowling alley with our arms linked.
