I looked over to see what the commotion was. There was some guy riding a motorcycle into the school parking lot.

Everybody was staring at him wondering who this mysterious dude was. I've definitely never seen him before. I would know if I have. Even from here, I could tell that they were going to be the talk of the school.

He was wearing black jeans with holes in the knees. His shirt was white and a little bite loose. On top of that, he was wearing a black leather jacket. I swear I could hear every girl within a 10 mile radius fangirling over this random guy.

I mean, he seemed like he would be handsome even though I've never seen his face. As he pulled into a parking spot near the front of the school, I swear I saw everybody lean forward to try and get a peek at the mystery dude.

When he took of his helmet, my heart literally stopped.

It was Leo.

I had no idea that he even rode a motorcycle. This came as a shocker to me. I mean, sure, he was mean to me when we were kids, but he never seemed like a bad boy. He was relatively nice to most people except me.

This was a totally different person from the one I grew up with. He ran his fingers through his black hair. "He's so hot," I heard some girl whisper to her friend. Freshman, I scoffed. Even I knew that Leo was probably the type of guy that never hung onto a girl for more than a week, maybe two. I think Leo himself already knew that he was going to have all the girls hearts so maybe that's why he was messing around with his hair, trying to look hot while sending winks to random girls.

I swear it's like he never grew up. Ever since we were little he's loved attention, it's just the way he is. No amount of attention was too small for him or too big. I bet he would become famous when he's older. If I'm being real he has the looks for it.

Whispers spread like wildfire throughout the crowd when they saw his face. Most people knew who Leo was, but hadn't seen him in a long time. We lived in a small city so most people have gone to the same school as their classmates since elementary. Apparently, there had been rumors about him returning, but it was just gossip.

I guess not that many people must have noticed him that first day. People must be extremely blind not to notice him. He walks like he owns the place.

His eyes connected with mine and he started towards Via and I. When he got too close for mine and Via's liking, we made a run for it inside the school. Luckily, he didn't follow us to our lockers. That was a relief. I'd have no idea what I would do if he tried to confront me again or Via.

When we arrived at my locker, I said my goodbyes to Via and headed towards my locker. We walked with each other into the school and then we had to part ways because my locker was at the opposite end of the hall from Via's.

Since it was only the second day of school, I shouldn't need to many things, so I grabbed a notebook and folder for each class along with my plain blue pencil case.

My first class was World History. Today, the teacher would most likely make us do introductions and play random 'get to know each other' games. Which is stupid considering most of us have been going to school with each other since elementary.

A few minutes after I walked into class, the queen bee of my high school walked in with her band of followers. Jenny was the most popular girl in school. Every guy wanted to be with her and every girl wanted to be her. Except Via and I of course.

Jenny was your typical high school queen bee. She had blonde hair that fell half way down her back and was always curled.

Her teeth were perfectly straight and white. Her eyes were actually a very pretty blue, when you ignored the anger that was constantly in her eyes. Her face was a soft heart making her look a little bit innocent.

She had long, toned, tanned legs that were to die for. Jenny had her nice moments, but only if she got something out of it. Her followers were trying their best to be like her. Jenny laughed at something they said as she took her seat.

When she passed me, she sneered as she pushed my notebook onto the floor.

Honestly, I have no idea why she hates me. I've never done anything to her. She's always done stuff like this to me ever since we were little. I really have no idea why. I got out of my chair and picked up my notebook. The moment I stood up my eyes connected with Leo's. He stared at me as I sat back down and opened up my notebook.

I pretended to be busy as he walked past me, sitting somewhere in the back. The whole class, I could feel his eyes one me. God, why can't he just stop staring? Him staring is making me feel weird. I hate being the center of attention.

My next class, which was English, flew by relatively quickly. The teacher explained what we would be doing throughout the year, how she will grade our papers, and what our project will be at the end of each semester.

It was finally time for lunch.

The school was serving burgers and fries today, one of the better school lunches. I grabbed my food after I paid the cashier and made my way over to the table that Via was sitting at. "Hey, Athena. How's your first classes of the day?" She asked me as soon as I sat down.

"Fine. Leo's in my world history class, though. I swear he's like a stalker or something. I could feel him staring at the back of my head the whole class." I shuddered at the memory. "He was probably planning all the different ways he could prank you."

I made a face at Via that said really? Via laughed and stole one of the fries off my tray. All of a sudden, the whole cafeteria went silent. You could have heard a pin drop.

My head turned to see what the commotion was. Leo was standing in front of the cafeteria doors searching for something, or rather someone. It was only the second day, but rumors had been flying since the very first day of school that he was returning. People were creating the most ridiculous scenario's I've ever heard. In the halls I heard someone say he returned after all this time because he was kidnapped and escaped after 6 years. It's dumb I know.

I ignored them knowing that they weren't real. When he left he didn't tell that many people where he was going, only his closest friends. Even back then he was known for being a trouble maker.

Before I knew what was happening, he made his way over to my table. Heads turned as they followed his figure. As soon as he passed people the whispers began. Via scowled at him and turned back around.

I guess she hadn't made up with her brother yet. "Via, we need to talk." People stared in awe at the bad boy in front of me. Come on. Had nobody ever seen a bad boy before? It wasn't that big of a deal. He hadn't really done anything to warrant the bad boy title yet except for ride to school on a motorcycle and wear a leather jacket. That hardly qualifies someone to be a bad boy. "She doesn't want to talk to you," I answered for Via.

She gave me a small smile and then turned back to face Leo. "Well tell her I want to talk to her." With that, he walked away from us, from the whispers and stares, and straight out of the cafeteria.

"Well, that was weird."

Via didn't say anything as we continued to eat. I couldn't understand why Via was mad at her brother. After being away for 6 years you would think that she would be excited to see him. He must have done something to really piss her off.

There are only a few things in this world that can make Via that mad.

The rest of lunch we avoided the topic of anything relating to Leo. By the time lunch was over, Via had cooled down a little bit. Maybe I can try and convince her to reconcile with her brother. I mean he only just got back. Whatever he did couldn't have been that bad.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate him, but I want Via to be on good terms with her brother. She hasn't seen him in 6 years, and they aren't exactly off on the best foot.

I know that if I hadn't seen my brother in 6 years, I would be too happy to finally be able to see him to be mad.

My last two classes of the day, art and government, were easy. The teachers really didn't do anything besides take attendance. They must still be in summer mode.

When the bell rang signalling that school was over, I made my way to my locker. Via was leaning against it, with her bag slung over her shoulder. She was smiling partially. "Considering the look on your face, I'm assuming that you made up with Leo." I stated as I put in the combination and opened my locker.

"Yeah, I did. I don't even know why I was mad at him in the first place. Now I understand why he does what he does." I found Via's answer a little weird and vague, but ignored it because she was my best friend and if she wanted me to know the reason she would tell me.

Once I had put everything back in my locker, we walked side by side out of the school. I didn't bring my car to school this morning. It was so nice and sunny and warm outside that I decided I would walk. Via had walked to school with me.

Now I was regretting that decision. The sky is grey, the clouds covering the sun completely. "Remind me again why we decided to walk to school?" Via groaned. I looked over at her and shot her a glare. She knew that I preferred to walk to school.

I had gotten over my fear of cars and driving, but sometimes I still preferred walking whenever it was nice out. Plus, it saved me some gas money. "You know that I like walking more. I told you that you could take my car to school, but you are the one that wouldn't let me walk alone."

Via stuck her tongue out at me because I made a valid point. I offered my car keys to her this morning and she declined saying that she would walk with me to school. Both of us were regretting that decision right now. I'm just praying that it doesn't rain before we get home.

Neither of us thought to bring an umbrella.

Luckily for us, right as we got inside our house, it started to rain. We got lucky. My dad was sitting on the counter eating a bowl of pretzels when we walked in. I ignored him, instead heading up to my room.

A pounding up the steps indicated that Via was following me. At the top of the stairs, Via and I parted ways and went to our own rooms.

As soon as I walked into my room, I sat down at my desk and opened my laptop. Right now, I needed the relief of writing.

Writing has been my outlet for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was little I've loved to write stories. The idea of creating an entire fictional world has always sounded appealing to me. Writing is a way for me to escape my life and vent any frustrations that I have.

Nobodies actually ever read my stories, and they never will. My stories are a private thing and I intend on keeping it that way. Most of my stories are completely fictional, but have characters that deal with real issues like depression, eating disorders, and one of them even has a main character that deals with survivors guilt.

I am always drawn to stories that are about mental illnesses and people overcoming them. It's super inspirational for me. I clicked on Word and opened up my most recent story. This one was about a girl struggling to accept herself the way she is.

After a few minutes of typing, it begins to storms.

Even better, I thought.

Writing always calms me down, but writing during a thunderstorm is even better. Something about the lightning and the sound of rain hitting the roof of the house is very therapeutic for me. I looked up from my laptop to admire the rain. Even though it was only late afternoon, the whole sky was dark, giving it the appearance of nighttime.

Lightning flashed, lighting up my room and Leo's. From the flash, I was able to see that his curtains and bedroom door were open, but Leo wasn't in his room. A couple seconds later, another flash of lighting struck.

Like the last time, it lit up mine and Leo's rooms. Instead of seeing an empty room I saw a dark figure standing in the middle of the window.

"AHHH!" I screamed.

The mysterious figure scared me so much that I fell backwards in my seat. My butt hit the floor with a thud. "Ow," I groaned. My tailbone was definitely going to be bruised tomorrow.

"Athena, are you okay?"

Via came rushing into my room right after I fell. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just thought I saw something outside." I slowly stood up, wincing at the pain in my tailbone. Via helped me up with a worried expression on her face.

"I'm fine, really," I tried to convince Via.

She raised an eyebrow at me saying, "Okay, whatever. Just make sure you are more careful next time."

"I will."

Why was Athena afraid of cars? Who was the figure she saw in Leo's window?
