Chapter 3 – The Drama Club President

** CHAD’s POV **

We’re at the auditorium. We’re all gathered here for the annual opening assembly to welcome a new school year. The introductory speech was held by the school principal Mr. Frank Cleveland.

"I’m Frank Cleveland, the principal of Beverly Hills High School. I'm pleased to welcome each and every one of you. This is a new school year for us and we all hope that it will be the best.”

“To all freshmen students and transferees. Know where your classes are. I don’t want excuses of you being late because you’re lost. That’s an old, pathetic and lame alibi. I’m watching you.”

Mr. Cleveland’s speech about the first years earned a lot of laugh and mocks from the upperclassmen. Freshmen were always the center of attraction in every school year. This is where they choose who’s going to be bullied and who’ll be the next jocks and queens.

Lame, I know, because this is High School.

Luckily, I came here as a transferee back in tenth grade. At that time, they already set who’s going to be what and I’m exempted with the picking. I’m categorized as the undiscovered one. Meaning I’m totally invisible to everyone. That’s the way I like it.

Mr. Cleveland cleared his throat to catch back the attention of the students. “To all seniors…” He started, and the seniors started to hail loudly. “…this is the last year for all of you. Some will make it some may not. Do not enjoy too much, you might fail your subjects and never graduate.”

The seniors began booing and protesting. Mr. Cleveland ordered everyone to settle down and continued with his speech. “To the rest of the students, I don’t want to see your face in my office.”

“On the other topic. I would like to announce that the newly renovated library is now available.” I thought that it will be his last announcement but then, this assembly will never be complete without an honoring remark to the queen’s father.

“Thanks to Mr. William Collins, the father of our humble student, Courtney Collins, who donated it to our school.”

Just as I thought. I said to myself.

Everyone began cheering and clapping. I saw Collins stood up and nod her head dramatically to the applauding crowd.

This girl is really so full of herself. She must really love the attention, huh? I don’t know why yearly, Mr. Collins donates something in this school. Maybe he wants to bribe the principal so that his daughter would continue to rule in her so-called kingdom.

No one bothers to know the reason and I’m trying my best to refrain myself from giving harsh comments about that girl. Who knows what might happen. The universe is really not on my side right now.

“Enough of the welcoming statements and let us proceed to the rules..." In this assembly, the principal explains the rules and regulations, the policy and everything he has in mind, including non-sense things.

It’s also an opportunity for each of the clubs in school to promote their activities and encourage new members to join them. And the presidents of these clubs would be the one to discuss their planned activities for the whole year.

And because I’m the president of the drama club, it’s my duty to find new members and represent my club. But then I forgot to create that speech and now I think I’m screwed.

I worked hard to be this year’s president. I have a lot of interests. Photography, Music, but this club is the closest to my heart.

In Drama Club, you can be someone or do something you’ve always wanted to be or do. Create or change a scene on a certain story. Have a happy ending, pretend to be happy and many more. In acting, you can do everything; all you have to do is to perform.

And that’s the reason why I chose this club. I worked hard to be the president because I had the privilege to create or redo a story that will be presented in the school play. Which will happen before the school year ends.

According to Mr. Davis, the director of the Drama Club, the universities all over the state, who had courses about performing arts, come to our yearly school play to give out scholarships to the students whom they think had the potential in the said field. So this is a great opportunity to showcase our talent in the hopes of being the chosen ones.

I have to work hard on this one for the sake of my members.

"Now, I present to you the presidents of each clubs. First is Fred Roise from the soccer club.” The introduction has begun.

While the president of each club gave their speeches, I noticed that almost everyone was not paying attention, especially the Queen Bee and her minions.

They were busy giggling and talking. Well I can’t blame them. Assemblies like these are really boring, particularly to the typical popular kids.

As for me, I hope I'll have enough members this year for my story. I’m not asking much, just enough to fill in the staff.

The Math Club is up. Next in line would be the Football Club, Glee Club and then our club. Two more to go and I’m up.

Wow I'm starting to get nervous. I can feel my whole body trembling and the palm of my hands are sweating. I'm no good with speeches and stuff. I didn’t even bother to write one.

"Thank you Shanon Brown, Math Club president. Next is our Quarterback Troy Perry, from the Football Club."

And by the said of his name, the crowd had gone wild. Everyone cheered including the first years. I can bet they don’t even know what’s happening around them. They’re just going with the flow.

"Football Club!” Troy shouted. “It’s me Troy, the quarterback. If you think you're good, strong and popular, then this club is for you! Football Club!” The crowd resumed their applauding the moment the quarterback raised his arm in the air.

Troy Perry is really popular. Everyone, even the Queen Bee and her Minions, were listening to his speech, if that is even considered as a speech.

I guess this was the only club the people were interested in. I feel bad for the next one who’ll give their speech since everyone won’t pay attention again.

The Glee Club really bores people, as what I had predicted, nobody was paying attention. I guess the same fate will happen to me.

After the Glee Club, the principal finally called my name and everyone was still busy minding their own business.

Never mind them.

I stood up and walked towards the podium. I cleared my throat and started to introduce myself. "Good morning everyone I'm Chad Treyson, the president of the Drama Club"

That wasn’t so hard after all. Maybe the reason why I'm so confident right now is because I knew nobody was listening to me. Even if I say something stupid, for sure, no one would notice.

As I scanned the room, I noticed someone that I didn’t expect to look straight at my direction.

Is that Courtney Collins? Is she paying attention to what I'm saying?

** COURTNEY’s POV **

"Good morning everyone I'm Chad Treyson, the president of the Drama Club"

Drama Club?

Upon hearing that words, I stopped talking and looked at the person standing behind the podium. So he’s the president of that club.

I always wanted to join this kind of club since I was a kid. But even though I liked it a lot, I still chose to keep quiet about it. Nobody really knows that I'm actually interested in this geek stuff since popular kids say this would be considered as social suicide.

And we wouldn’t want that, right?

"As the president of Drama Club, it is my duty to create or redo a story and present it to our annual school play that will took place before the school ends. We need a lot of members to be the actors and actresses, good or not it doesn't matter because we will train you. We’re also open for the production team who’ll be assigned to do stage designs, props and costume making. If you're interested kindly approach Mr. Davis or proceed to the auditorium tomorrow and sign up. Thank you very much"

Story? They were allowed to do that? To create or redo a story and direct it just like in Hollywood? Wow! That's really cool! What does this guy had in mind? What story is he going to produce?

"Excuse me, Drama rep, what’s the title of your story?" After my unexpected interruption I noticed that everyone was staring at me and maybe wondering what I am doing.

And that made me ask myself, what the hell am I doing?

"Excuse me?" The drama rep asked. Shock is evident in his features.

"Court? What the hell? Are you interested in joining that Club?" Terry questioned in a duh tone. I looked around and I saw that everyone’s eyes were on me.

Damn it!

I really forgot about that! A major social suicide! Oh My Gosh! What am I going to do? Wrong move Courtney! Wrong move! I got carried away to the point that I actually asked for what the story was all about.

Damn this stupid curiosity! How am I going to undo this?

I opened my mouth and hoped that the idea I had in mind would work.

"Well if you're trying to recruit some members I guess you should come up with complete details about your club. I mean what’s your story all about? Is it Action? Romance? Drama? Comedy? All you said was you have a story in your mind and go to the auditorium for sign up. How will you expect someone to sign up for your club? They don’t even have a single idea who or what they’re going to portray. Well, as a good and concerned student in this school, I'm only doing this for the sake of the students, especially the freshmen. At least you should have provided complete information about it. Am I right?”

And the crowd is on fire. They’re all cheering for me and starting to protest and demand for what the story was all about.

I took a sigh of relief. That was really close.

I gave myself a virtual pat on the back for a job well done.

Popularity saved!

"Thanks for the question Miss. I'm planning to discuss the story tomorrow together with the members of my club. But since I'm sensing that you've taken an interest in our club, I guess revealing the background of the story wouldn’t be a crime.” He looked at me and then he smirked before continuing.

Is this geek mocking me?

“It’s the modern adaptation of a popular fairy tale entitled Beauty and The Beast. I guess that's the only thing that I can reveal right now. The plot will be discussed to the interested students tomorrow at the DBH auditorium. Thank you very much."

Wow.

I was taken aback by his retort. He sounded so confident.

In a situation like that, I guess anyone who’ll be in his position would’ve choked, or worse, vomit. But he didn't. He didn’t even paused or stuttered.

Who is this unknown, unpopular geek? How can he be smart and confident at the same time?

** CHAD’s POV **

Thanks to my alertness, I was able to counter her questions. But what was that all about? Is she trying to humiliate me in front of these people? As I recalled, I didn’t do anything to her. She doesn’t even know me.

Yes, I despise her, in my mind. It’s not as if she has a telepathic power wherein she can read what’s running inside my head.

Now I know the reason why she’s looking at me a while ago. I’m so stupid to consider that she’s actually paying attention to what I’m saying. There’s always a catch when it comes to this girl.

Well, I just hoped that the scene a while ago would not affect the judgment of the people who’re interested in joining our club. If not, everything that I had worked hard for will be put into waste.

The moment I stepped down the podium, I heard a loud voice that made the small hope I had, burst in front of me.

"Good luck finding a member, loser!"

Who was that?

I immediately turned around and find the owner of that voice. My assumptions were right. It is without a doubt, The Courtney Collins, who’s still busy laughing her lungs out.

This is going to be bad. Really bad.

Curse you Courtney Collins.

This is going to be a long year.

What the hell is wrong with the universe?

----END OF CHAPTER 3----

This story is different from my other story.

The girl here, Courtney Collins, is so different from Victoria Peige. So is Chad Treyson, to Zachary Anderson.

Please don’t compare. Thanks.

I hope you like it. =)
