In that moment, you did the only sensible thing. Panic.

A loud scream pierces through the room, so loud you thought somebody could have heard it. And you were right, because in an instant, the door was being knocked on frantically.

Freezing in your pacing tracks, you suck in a breath and go to pull open the door, revealing the worried looking prince.

"Um, I heard a yell walking by and I thought something-" he tried to start, but you cut him off quickly, almost too quickly.

"Everything is fine! I just um-" you look around the room subtly, looking for a way around the truth. "I almost knocked a vase over and panicked. That's all." Wasn't a full lie, wasn't the full truth either. Just what you needed.

"Okay," Ben nods. "Well if you need anything, just let me know." Once he was gone, you slammed the door shut again a hurry, completely shaken, questions flying through your mind.

How do you have magic of all things? Ever since you were a kid, you'd always known your father as a perfectly normal individual.

Okay, he was the farthest from normal, but in the case of possessing magic, he didn't strike you as the type. There was something not adding up at the moment, unless...unless this was just a hallucination and your were only seeing things.

You pick up the vase, examining it. It was still in pristine condition, not a scratch or crack in sight, and given the fact that your hands weren't anywhere near the item when it fell yet still managed to control its movements, avoiding shattering it, you knew something was wrong.

And this was definitely not a hallucination.

++++++++

You knocked on Jay and Carlos' dorm room later that night, per request of as Mal, who'd ordered everyone met there to discuss how to get the wand. You arrived 10 minutes late,  since the following earlier events had consisted of more panicked, writing down theories, and even trying to awaken the magic you'd seemed to unlock, but it had disappeared again, and all that energy made you ache for a serious nap.

When the door to the boy's room finally opened, you came face to face with a fuming Mal.

"Where were you?!" she yelled.

"Sorry, sorry," you muttered sarcastically, rolling your eyes and stepping into the door. "I had stuff to figure out and then fell asleep. Besides, it doesn't even look like you've started yet."

Your hands gesture to the rest of the group, Carlos was playing a video game, Evie was fixing her makeup, and Jay was pulling out a variation of items you could only assume he stole.

"Hi (n/n)!" Evie greeted looking up from her mirror and waving at you, you giving her a light smile.

"Yo, (y/n)," Carlos called, handing you his controllers. "Come check out this game!" You shrugged and took off your jacket, letting your bag fall from your shoulder, and let him place the controllers in your hand, jumping onto the platform and having to instantly duck.

"Not bad!" You exclaimed, throwing a punch at somebody. Jay seemed to have a death wish, walking up to you and snatching away the controls before he started playing the game himself.

"You're such a jerk sometimes," you muttered, getting down from the platform.

"My apologies, princess," he taunted back, knowing your deep hatred for that nickname. You swiftly spun on your heel and pulled out the dagger you kept in your back pocket, jumping on him and aiming it at his neck, the others letting out a gasp in surprise.

"Look here, I'm really not in the mood for this, so unless you wanna get stabbed right here, I suggest you lay off the snarky comments for the night,"  you growl out a warning, Carlos tapping your arm as a silent request to step back, to which you comply.

Mal's sudden yell for attention makes you all look at her. "Do I have to remind you what we're all here for?!" she huffed.

"A vacation," you mumbled under your breath, putting the knife back and collapsing in the chair. "Lord knows I need it."

"Fairy Godmother, blah, blah, blah," Jay adds on in between hits in the video game. "Magic wand, blah, blah, blah." Evie giggles at his comment while you, despite still being mildly irritated with him, managed to curl your lips up faintly into a humoured smile.

"This is our one chance to prove ourselves to our parents!" Mal shouted, the room falling into silence. "To prove that we are evil and vicious and ruthless and cruel. Yeah?"

"Yeah," the rest of you agreed slowly. You looked to the ground and stared dolefully.

"(Y/n)?" Evie asked worriedly. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, it's just.." you trailed off, looking back up. "My dad already knows what I'm capable of, he's been telling me since day one. But he's not the one I'm afraid of disappointing."

"Friends on the other side?"

"You could say that."

"We're gonna do this," Carlos reassured.

"We better. I still have the Pearl to look over,"  you retort.

"Yeah, big deal," Mal scoffs, holding her hand out to Evie. "E, mirror me." The blue haired girl gives Mal a look and reluctantly pulls out her magic mirror, sitting down at the table.

"Mirror mirror on the-" she paused for a second, remembering the difference in mirrors. "-in my hand, where does Fairy Godmother's wand..stand?"

The mirror suddenly displays an image of the wand, surrounded in a blue forcefield for assumed security reasons.

"There!" Everyone exclaims simultaneously.

"Where is there?" You question, scooting forward.

"Magic mirror, not so close," Evie directs, and it suddenly zooms all the way out where the entire planet can now be seen. "Closer." It inches in further, but not by much. "Closer."

"Uh, can I get back to my game?" Carlos asks the focused group. "I'm on level three."

"There!" You suddenly exclaim, the mirror's zoom movements coming to a complete halt, revealing the location of the museum.

"It's in a museum," Mal breathes out.

"Do we know where that is?"

"Finally, something I can do," Carlos interjects, moving back over to the table and flipping open a laptop, clicking away at the keys for a few moments before turning the screen around. "It's just 2.3 miles from here."

"How are we gonna sneak over there without getting caught?" Evie inquired, everyone else looking completely stumped at the very logical point she'd just presented. You absentmindedly rummage through your backpack in deep thought, feeling your hand land on a cool and smooth surface.

Pulling on the mysterious item, it finally comes up with your hand tightly clasped around it, revealing a circular golden object, a small note plastered on top of it.

To lead you to great things, it read, and you carefully pull it open, breath catching in your throat once you realize what it was.

It was your dad's compass.

Great things? Well, using it to lead you to the wand so that evil would soon rain upon Auradon was considered a great thing, you conclude.

"My dad's compass," you suddenly break the silence in the room, heads snapping to look at you. "My dad must've put it in here before we left, but it could direct us around the area in a way we can stay stealthy." Mal seemed to approve of the idea.

"Perfect, let's go," she announces, the rest of the group getting up, ready to file out of the room. You decided to leave the backpack here, it would be too much extra weight for now, settling on only bringing a couple of knives and the compass along with you, stopping to wait for one more person.

"Carlos!" You whisper yell impatiently, Mal, Evie, and Jay practically down the hall now. Carlos drops his controllers, throwing on his jacket before running out right on your heels.

++++++++

After about 20 minutes of sneaking and running, you finally made it to the museum, walking right in front of the security room, slowly crouching so your bodies were barely visible.

"How are we gonna get past the guard?" Carlos whispered.

"Mal better put that book of hers to use," you replied. The fae perked up in realization and whipped out her mother's spellbook, flipping through the pages while the boys looked into the room.

"That's you mother's magic spindle?" Jay asks in amusement, clearly making fun of it.

"Looks pretty dorky to me," Carlos adds.

"It's magic," Mal defends. "It doesn't have to look scary." With that, her finger finally lands on a specific page, beginning recite the spell.

The guard was put down, touching Maleficent's sleeping spindle and passing out right on the platform (after the second try). Evie and Mal tried to open the door, but to no avail.

"Locked," you murmur.

"Stand back, I got this," Jay said confidently, walking back a couple inches from the door.

Mal quickly flicks through the book again, saying another spell to make the doors open without Jay going Kung Hi on it.

And now, it was only a matter of time before the wand was collected.

++++++++

"There!" Carlos shouts, pointing below. Lo and behold was the magic wand in all its glory, just out of reach.

"Where's Mal?" You suddenly ask, looking around the room.

"I'll go bring her," Evie offers, and you nod, telling her to meet you three down below when the girl was picked up, everyone going their separate ways.

It was only a matter of time before you heard eager clacks of boots and heeled shoes coming near, Evie running in promptly with Mal in tow, who looked in awe upon the relic. Jay sticks out his hand slowly, Mal barking it a warning.

"Jay, no!"

" You don't know if something will happen if you stick a hand in there, don't you dare," you add just as firmly, but Jay only gives all of you a smirk, too cocky to understand that what he was about to do could bring about consequences.

And he reached out to grab it.

"No, don't!"

The forcefield blows him back to the floor, a blaring alarm now sounding through the building.

"A forcefield and a siren?" Carlos yells over the noise.

"That's a little excessive," Jay groans, still in process of collecting himself. Soon enough though, all of you are making a run for it, sneaking back out of the museum undetected.

"Way to go Jay," Mal says sarcastically once you'd bolting out and down the block. "Now we have to go to school tomorrow!"

++++++++

Now back at the boy's dorm, Mal and Jay were currently arguing over who's fault it was that nabbing the wand was unsuccessful. Their voices grew louder and louder until eventually, you couldn't take much anymore.

"Shut up!" you snapped, jumping up, from the windowsill. "Your annoying and uncalled for yelling at each other isn't gonna help us get the wand faster! You're both at fault here if you really wanna go there, but I refuse to listen to this anymore." Mal narrowed her eyes at you.

"I didn't ask you," she retorted, crossing her arms.

"And I didn't ask to be here," you snark back. "Big woop, Mal. You both are too immature to get the job done, that's the only thing you need to get through that thick skull of yours."

"Listen, don't forget who the boss is here. The daughter of the Mistress of Evil is much worse than some drunken pirate's offspring."

"Why you-" just as you're going to belt out the knife towards her neck, Carlos steps up to you, lowering your raised left arm.

"It's okay, she didn't mean it," he assures, but you keep your death stare, and if looks could kill, the little witch would be more than six feet under by now.

"Fine," you scoff, now completely pissed, shoving things in your backpack angrily. "She insults my father like that again, I slit her throat. That's a promise."

Not giving anyone else a chance to reply, you walk out the door, slamming it behind you. In your dorm at last, you collapsed on to the bed, mixed emotions just one step away from exploding.

And now  you'd wished you'd stay home.
