The reader is basically soldier boy from the boys. Might be a few spoilers related to the character

This takes place when catra gets banished to the crimson waste, except her banishment is permanent this time

Shadow weaver never left the fright zone in this universe

Catra pov:

I was walking through this barren wasteland all by myself, looking for any kind of civilization, shelter, anything but sand really.

Scorpia: so...any idea where we're going? I mean, all this walking is kinda fun and all, but It be great finding some people.

...or at least I wished I was alone. Being in this hot ass desert is already bad enough, but now I have to deal with scorpia who decided to get herself banished with me, for whatever reason. She had the perfect opportunity to stay and be third in command, and she blew it.

After a LONG time of walking with scorpia, I found a giant skeleton with cloth covering certain parts of it, faintly hearing the sound of chatter

Walking in, me and scorpia got a drink, and sat down at the bar. While we were drinking though, something very interesting caught my ear. A few men were sitting down at one of the tables, with one of them telling a story.

Man: ok, so, I'm with this gang just wandering through the desert. We were planning on going to this uh, this trading route that people like to use. We were gonna rob someone, but of course Jerry was terrible at directions.

Man2: Jerry? Are you shitting me?

Man3: whatever happened to you, you deserved it.

Man: I know, I know, I saw it comin' but I didn't do nothing about it. So anyway, we ended finding this massive building, pretty far away from here. There were loads of guards at the front, all wearing that horde symbol on their chest.

Scorpia: what did he say? I thought the horde didn't go here?

Catra: yeah, I didn't either...

Man: It wasn't easy to get even kind of close to it. We weren't even trying to go in, and there were three snipers focused on us. One of them took a shot at us, hittin' Jerry right in the shoulder.

Man2/3/4: is he dead!?

Man: *sigh* no...

The entire bar: ahh damnit.

Man4: if it was that well defended, it must been something important.

Man: looking back, I'm thinking it was...the devil's cage.

Man:2 the devil's cage!? You mean THE Devil's cage?

Man: I swear it. There ain't no other reason the horde would have a random fortress here, if it wasn't important.

The Devil's cage? I've got to look into this. Walking up to their table, I slammed my hands down onto the table, announcing my presence.

Catra: what exactly is this "devil's cage"?

Man: oh, take a seat, I'll tell you all about it. Long ago, there was this mysterious man, roaming etheria with only one goal in his mind; to create as much chaos, havock, destruction, as much as that stuff as possible. If he came, struttin' into town, you were dead right then and there. He'd show up, Along with his horde buddies and topple whatever you threw at em'.
Guns? Nothin'. Giant beasts? Wouldn't even flinch. Right after he killed the king of salineas, he had earned himself the tile of the Devil. I don't know what he actually went by, but it probably something lame.

He killed the king of salineas? There's only one guy that I remember who got a promotion for that...

Anyway, he mysteriously disappeared one day, never to return again. People couldn't believe the story that he just, disappeared though, and rumors began to spread. Rumors that the horde had him locked up somewhere...the devil's cage.

Catra: tell me, where is this devil's cage place?

Man: I found it somewhere around...that direction. I don't recommend going there, for many reasons, but it is pretty far away. Oh here, I took away Jerry's map privileges, so you can have it. The red circle is where we found the place.

Taking the convenient map from him, I turned over to scorpia and told her of our destination. Taking a few canteens with us, we set off to the devil's cage.

Time skip~~

Scorpia: so, what's so important about this place? I mean, we'd probably get shot on sight, and that Devil guy didn't sound to pleasant.

Catra: we're going there because I know who this "Devil" is. He used to be my best friend.

Scorpia: wait, really? Since when?

Catra: he used to be on my team, But that was a long time ago. I think we were about fifteen at the time. His name was y/n.

Scorpia: y/n...oh, soldier boy! That's who this devil guy is!?

Catra: uh, duh. Did you not hear the guy when he said he killed the king of salineas?

Scorpia: I didn't know that soldier boy was the one you did that!

While we were talking, I looked forward, only to see a green and grey fortress ahead. Looking at the sandstone mountain that it was built in, I saw several crow's nests with snipers in them, not even bothering with us. Seeing as they didn't care, we quickly headed towards the front entrance, hoping not to get shot in the head. Making it to the gate, the door opened by itself, revealing a guard walking out, visibly surprised to see us.

Guard: wait...catra and scorpia right? What are you two doing here? Did hordak send you?

Catra:...yes, he asked us to check if everything was running smoothly.

Guard: ah, ok. Also glad to see you got the promotion. When you leave, tell adora I said hi!

The guard just walked past us, then stood next to the door in the shade. I'm guessing they don't have any connection to the fright zone, and apparently don't know anything past adora leaving us. Just walking in, we saw dozens of guards inside, all saluting us as we passed by.

Scorpia: well, this was a lot easier than I expected.

Catra: yeah, I'd still be careful if I were you.

Going past all of the security checks, we finally made to a room that said "stasis room". Walking through the door, I saw two people looking at machinery, while behind a glass wall, stood a pod with a bearded man stuck inside. I can't believe I'm seeing him after all this time, last time I remember seeing him, me and adora we're forced to help subdue him.

Scientist: oh, welcome force captains! This is where we've kept soldier boy. All of this machinery is to keep him alive and healthy. Right now, we can tell that he's dreaming.

Y/n's pov:

Looking around, I seem to be having a flashback of our morning training exercise. We were paired up with another, fighting each other until one remained. Rogelio vs. catra, Lonnie vs. adora, and me vs. Kyle. I wasn't a very big fan of Kyle. Mainly because he was a pussy. Meanwhile, shadow weaver monitored all of our fights, silently judging each of us.

Kyle: could you, I don't know, go easy on me? Please?

Y/n: heh, sure buddy, I'll give you a chance.

Kyle reluctantly wacked me on the chest, doing nothing but bouncing off of me. Swinging a few more times, I caught the next one in order to move things along.

Y/n: well, you had your chance.

I socked Kyle in the face, sending him to the ground with a broken and bleeding nose. The wimp was crying on the floor, holding it like he was dying. My next opponent was catra, someone who I liked quite a bit more than anyone else in our team.

Y/n: catra, so glad I could fight you instead of Rogelio. You ready for this?

Catra: I was born ready.

I tried swinging at her, but suddenly everything started fading, being mixed with the sight of blue glass. This was definitely a new part my dream. Opening my eyes for the first time in a very long time, I found myself in some kind of pod.

Mechanical grinding rang through my ears, as the front side of the pod opened, revealing a familiar face.

Catra: y/n?

Y/n: catra...where am I? What happened?

Catra hugged me tightly before I could get any answers, and I started hugging her back. It felt nice seeing her again, but something felt off.

Y/n: you put me in there...didn't you? Why?

Catra's grip loosened, looking up at me and into my eyes.

Catra: I...shadow weaver made us do it. I didn't want to.

Looking back at her, I grabbed hold of the back of her neck, pulling her off of me while anger built up inside of me.

Y/n: all of this time...every day, those scientist fuckers tortured me. Every single day, I held onto the hope that you would save me!

My chest started to glow a deep orange from within, while catra struggled to break free. I don't know what they did to me, but I could make it work.

Catra: I-I didn't know where they put you, shadow weaver didn't tell us! But that doesn't matter now, we can get out of here together...and we can make them pay for what they did.

Looking into her frightened, differently colored eyes, I set her down as my chest felt lighter than before. I gave her a small hug, before looking over to the other person in the room.

Y/n:...scorpia, right?

Scorpia: o-oh, yeah that's me! What do you need?

Y/n: fuck off. Me and catra have business to do.

Catra: actually, she's with me.

Letting out a small grunt, I walked over to the door, seeing the room where the scientist went to. I saw two people with lab coats knocked out on the ground. Stepping past them, I opened the next door revealing a long corridor filled with passing by guards. One of them took a quick glance in my direction, and froze in place. Soon, the rest of the army noticed me as well. What was once a building filled with the sound of footsteps and clunky armor, had turned to dead silence.

Catra: what, never seen the man you're guarding?

One of the soldiers fired a shot in my direction, only causing a burn mark to appear on my hospital gown. Brushing the flame off, I took a few steps towards them, causing the guards to back off.

Y/n: hahahah...I'm going to show you what a real soldier is.

I grabbed a hold of the closest guard, crushing his helmet with my hand while he was wearing it. Throwing his body at a few others, I killed a few more of them while they all began shooting at me. Happily ripping through the horde, my chest began to feel heavier, until a massive beam of destruction shot out of me, disintegrating both the guards and the fortress in the process.

Looking around, I was now standing in a smoldering pile of ash in the middle of a red, hot desert. Gasping for air, I began to laugh as I heard catra walking towards me.

Catra: whoa...hordak is gonna pay for what he did.

Y/n: you're goddamn right catra. You hear that etheria? SOLDIER BOY IS BACK!

Catra: right...I almost forgot how cheesy that name is.

Y/n: alright catra, here's the plan; we're going to the fright zone, you are going to help me get my gear back, kill shadow weaver and hordak, then burn the whole god damn place to the ground.

Catra: oh I like that plan.

Y/n: and after that's done with, you'll help me kill adora. If I remember correctly, she was the one who used that knock out gas on me. I always knew that if anyone betrayed me, it'd be her.

Catra: oh, yeah...

Y/n: first up...where the hell are we?

Time skip~~

Making it across the crimson wastes, catra lead me to some kind of bar out in the desert. Kicking the door off of the hinges, causing all of the drunkards to look towards us.

Bartender: what the hell, why'd you break my door!?

Catra: quiet down, my friend here has something to say.

Y/n: listen up folks, outside I saw a giant, shitty looking skiff parked outside. All I want to know, is who has the keys?

A beer bottle flew past y/n's face, while some super buff guy with a whip stood up and walked over towards us.

Buff dude: that skiff is mine, and the keys are in my pocket. Tell me, why so interested in my skiff?

Scorpia: we were wondering if we could borrow it for-

Y/n: I plan to take it so I can leave this desert.

Buff dude: heh, and what makes you think you can take it?

Y/n: it's a fairly simple answer.

I grabbed the dude by the throat, and slowly walked him over to bar table while he repeatedly hit me in the face.

The men sitting down at the table quickly got up, while I slammed the guys head into the now broken table until he stopped struggling. While I grabbed the keys out of his pocket, all of the other bar occupants looked amongst each other, muttering things about the Devil.

Y/n: bartender, get me the strongest drink you got. Here catra, go make sure the skiff is good to drive. Actually, make two.

Catra and scorpia left, while the bartender handed me two glasses of something. Taking it to go, I tipped the man with someone else's pocket treasure. Going back into the scorching sun, I climbed aboard the skiff, handing catra the second drink.
She took a quick sip of it, then immediately gagged and spit it out.

Catra: what the hell did you order!?

Y/n: don't know *sip* but it's weak as shit.

Kicking the steering lever as far as I could, we zoomed across the dessert at high speeds, with catra holding onto my waist in order to not fall off.
Scorpia might of fallen off, but I don't give enough of a shit to check.

Time skip~~

After several hours of nonstop driving, we finally ran out of all the extra fuel, not too far away from the fright zone. During the ride, catra and Scorpia we're catching me up on everything I missed. Adora betrayed the horde and sided with the rebels, catra was banished for her failure, and the rebellion had gotten stronger, now having all of the kingdom's support. Also some other stuff happened of course.

Making it to the fright zone, we took out the guards at the entrance, and walked over to catra's room.

Opening the door, old memories of me and my team came flooding to me. I saw adora's bed torn to shreds, along with the old drawings that catra kept. Looking over to where my bed was, I saw my beautiful suit and shield kept on a mannequin. I told catra and Scorpia to not watch me undress, seeing catra blush slightly as she turned around with scorpia.

Attaching my triangular shield to my right wrist guard, I felt pride finally returning to my former glory. All I need to do now is shave.

Y/n: alright, next stop, wherever I can go to get rid of this hobo beard.

Catra: what, no, we don't have time for that!

Y/n: fine, I'll shave later. Where is hordak's sanctum again?

Catra: I'll lead you to there. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they see us.

Walking through the empty corridors, we saw the giant door that lead to hordak, and his two guards. Catra quickly took one of them out, while I slapped the other one with my shield, launching him out of the way. Punching a hole through the door, I ripped a good sized hole for us to fit through. On the other side, I saw some purple haired girl standing next to hordak and shadow weaver with shocked expressions, with a giant sword casually attached to a strange machine.

Catra: hello there, did ya miss us?

Entrapta: I did!

Shadow weaver: impossible!

Hordak: soldier boy...I thought you had died...

Y/n: you thought I died??? You locked me up in the desert!

Hordak: why would I have my most prized possession locked up in the desert? Shadow weaver, what is the meaning of this!

Entrapta: uh, what's happening?

We all looked towards shadow weaver, wanting answers.

Shadow weaver: soldier boy did not die. I had to remove them from the picture to keep my position.

Hordak: you have deceived me... soldier boy, have fun.

Shadow weaver used her magic to shoot a dark beam towards me and catra. I blocked it with my shield, while catra had to dodge them herself. I was going to tell scorpia to do something, until I realized I didn't make the hole large enough for her to fit through.

Catra ended up trapped in some kind of black void, giving me enough time to hit shadow weaver in the face with the pointed side of my shield, sending her to the ground and freeing catra.

Her mask had been cracked, from the impact. She slowly got up, before I grabbed her by the throat.

Y/n: you, are a real bitch.

Catra: wait! I want a word with her.

I dropped shadow weaver to the ground, while catra gave her a death glare.

Catra: all of these years, you abused me because I wasn't as good as adora. What do you think now? Am I good enough for you!? Am I as good as adora now!?

Shadow weaver:..no...adora could have bested me by herself...you needed a super soldier to do it for you.

Catra was silent, with tears threatening to fall at any moment. She took a deep breath, and exhaled, looking straight towards shadow weaver.

Catra: y/n...turn her to ash.

My chest began to glow a deep orange, charging up my super laser to eviscerate shadow weaver. The eye slots on her mask got smaller, making it look like she was closing her eyes in acceptance. Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice coming from the entrance.

Adora: give me back my...sword.

Turning around, I saw adora surrounded by several princesses.

Adora:..y/n?

Glimmer: you know this guy?

The princesses looked confused, other than the water princess, who looked horrified.

Y/n: ah, I was hoping to see you again. It's also great to see a familiar face. You remember me water girl, right? Me and your father were pretty close.

Adora: wh-what happened to you? Where did they take you?

Adora ran over to me and hugged me, crying a little on my shoulder.

Y/n: adora...you think I would forgive you?

Adora: I didn't want to do it, shadow weaver-

Y/n: yeah yeah, you we're forced, I already heard the story. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to die.

I grabbed her by the back of the head and threw her away, while the princesses came over to defend their friend. Of course, mermista was too scared to get close to me.

Glitter girl was teleporting around me, shooting balls of sparkly magic at me, not hurting me in the slightest. While me and catra fought off the princesses, I failed to notice adora grabbing the sword, enveloping in light and transforming into the legendary she Ra.

Adora: y/n, we don't have to do this!

Y/n: I think you know that we do.

Running over to her, I raised my shield to block her strike, creating a small shockwave when her sword came in contact with my shield. Punching her in the gut gave me the chance to hit her on the side of the head with my shield, which is exactly what I did. I tried to punch her again, but she dodged out of the way and slammed her sword onto my side, sending me to the wall. That was the first time that I've taken a hit that hurt me, in a very long time.

She rushed towards me again, but this time I pushed my shield into her gut, and slammed her face into the ground, charging my chest laser when she de-transformed. Before I could shoot though, someone knocked me back, preventing me from killing her. Looking to see which princess did it, I saw saw catra...

Catra: y/n, I...can't let you kill her.

Adora: you do still care...

Catra: shut up.

Y/n:*sigh* catra, I thought we agreed on this. I'll just kill both of you. After all, it was both of you who betrayed me...

I charged my laser once more, while catra and adora tried to talk me out of it.

Adora: y/n, please, we never wanted you gone. We missed you everyday after you were gone!

Catra: she's right y/n. We can finally be together again!

Y/n: oh, just shut up! You never cared about that! You hated everyone but adora, and
