Tying my hair back as I stood there in an armor, I couldn't help but smirk as his eyes checked me out. Once my hair was completely out of my face, I straightened up and raised my eyebrow at him. I giggled as he bit his lip nervously. Maybe breaking my mother's rules isn't that bad.

"Done checking me out?" I teased.

He looked away quickly as his face slowly turned into a light shade of red. He turned back to me and smirked.

"Can you blame me? I already know I'm going to win against you just by looking at you." He stated.

"Awe. Shawn, you're breaking my heart. Really. But it's not as bad compared to how broken your ego as well as your pretty face will be once I'm done with you."

"Pretty, huh? I don't think this is the time for you to profess your huge crush on me, Princess."

"How typical of you. You only pay attention to what you want to hear. Now are you ready to fight or what? God knows I'll be killed by my own mother for nothing if all you do is talk."

"Oh come on. She's not gonna kill you. She trusts me enough."

He took out his sword and started to attack. I got mine out and blocked his strike. I twisted my sword in order to throw his to the side. But his grip on the metal was too strong for me to do so.

"Nice. Maybe I should be your training partner from now on. This way, you might actually get better." He chuckled.

"You're underestimating my skills, Mendes." I said as he lunged forward, leaving at most an inch of space between the two of us.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah."

I looked into his eyes and kissed him. He was caught off-guard but kissed me back. Once we pull away, I swung my sword against his, making him drop it.

"Not so confident now, huh?" I taunted.

"Fuck, y/n." He said, obviously out of breath as he ran his hand through his hair.

"What? Caught up on the kiss? You know, you're known as the princess' best friend- who happens to be one of the best singers- in this kingdom. Girls practically throw themselves at you. And here you are, acting as if you haven't been kissed before and I stole your first kiss."

"It's not like that. It's just... Different, I guess. And you actually did get my first kiss when we were younger. Remember the pact?"

"I know. We both had our first kiss with each other."

I didn't even realize that he got his sword until he struck mine. I dodged it and rolled my eyes at him while smirking. He attacked again but I tried to blocked it, only resulting to my sword flying out of my hands. Out of instinct, I tackled him to the ground. I couldn't help but look into his deep, brown eyes as we lay on the ground. We were only snapped out of our daze when someone cleared their throat.

"Princess, the queen wants to speak with you." Edward, my cousin who, at the same time, happens to be my bodyguard, stated.

"Uh, okay." I said, rolling off Shawn and standing up awkwardly.

I gave Shawn a small smile and looked down at the ground. He stood up and stood behind me awkwardly. He brushed the grass off his clothes before scratching the back of his neck nervously.

"Uh... I'll see you later, y/n." He said, running off to God knows where.

"Yeah, see you." I muttered.

Edward motioned for me to follow him and walked ahead of me. I caught up to him and walked beside him quietly. I took the tie out off my hair and brushed it with my fingers.

"You know, there are several rooms in this castle, right? You didn't have to do it at the training grounds." Edward teased.

"It wasn't what it looked like." I groaned, covering my face.

"Really? It looked like both of you were about to have-"

"NO! We were just training, okay? He send my sword flying to the other side of the court so I tackled him instead."

"You're a princess, y/n. I don't think you're supposed to be fighting with swords."

"So? I also know how to fight with a bow and arrow."

"That's not what I meant."

"I know what you mean, Edward. And that's a bit stereotypical of you to say that."

"Y/n... I just don't want you to get hurt, okay? You're my cousin after all."

We reached the throne room where my mother is usually staying in. I walked in and saw her sitting there impatiently. I bit my lip nervously as I entered. Her eyes seemed to shoot daggers at me as I approached her.

"Y/n, how many times do I have to tell you that you're a princess?" She groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "You're 16! You'll be the queen of this kingdom in two years and you're still out playing with swords?!"

"Mother, a girl should know how to protect herself first before learning how to rule and to protect a kingdom. After all, no one knows what might happen in the future. I might need to fight against invaders physically as well." I stated.

"It's exactly why we have an army, dear."

"But that's not enough. In desperate times, someone needs to step up as well. Besides, I'm already done with 'princess lessons' for the day. I might as well have some fun of my own."

"Getting potentially injured is not fun."

"Mother, this is the 21st century! We're not in the medieval times anymore! Let a girl live!"

"I am letting you live! It's just that you need to grow up! You need to get out of your stupid fantasy and stop playing around with one of the servants!"

"SERVANT?! THAT SO CALLED SERVANT IS MY FRIEND! I CAN'T BE PERFECT 24/7 AND HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND THAT! YOU MAY BE MY MOTHER BUT YOU DEFINITELY DON'T ACT LIKE IT!"

I ran out of the place and went up to my room. After climbing up around five staircases, I was able to reach my room. I slammed the door and groaned. I took off my armor and placed it beside my bed. I changed into a blue and white striped sweater and black leggings. I laid on my bed and buried my head in a pillow. I heard the door open and someone get in, sitting beside me.

"Y/n." I heard Shawn's voice say.

I sat up and looked at him, tears blurring my eyesight. He pulled me into his arms and placed my head on this chest. I couldn't help but let the tears stream down my face as he hummed lightly. Once I was done crying, I looked up at him and he just gave me a sad smile.

"I heard about what happened." He said, stroking my hair.

"Edward told you, didn't he?" I said, wiping my eyes.

"You didn't have to stand up to the queen for calling me a servant, you know."

"But you're not a servant. At least, not to me."

"I don't think standing up to your mother like that will be good for your relationship with her. And if rumors about this spread, it might ruin your chance of getting married to a prince."

"Who said I wanted a prince?" I asked, looking at him straight in the eyes.

"You're a princess. Every princess must get married to a prince before she becomes a queen. It's tradition."

"Shawn."

"Yeah?"

"I... I love you." I whispered.

"Y/n..."

"I know this is a bad time to say it and I know I shouldn't even feel this way but... I love you. I really do. It's okay if you don't feel the same way but-"

He cut me off my placing his index finger against my lips. He placed a hand behind my head and leaned in. I closed my eyes and met him halfway. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he deepened the kiss. We both pulled away for air and held each other close.

"I love you too. I always had and I know that I always will." He said, pressing his lips against my forehead.

"Do you think you could take me away from this place?" I asked him.

"You mean, runaway together?"

"Yes."

The corner of his lips quirked upward. "I'm in."

A/N: This is so freaking weird! xD I'm not planning on making a part two for this or for Ruin. I wanted Ruin to not be as cliché as every "confrontation with the ex" imagines I've read although it is still cliché xD But I might make an Exchange by Bryson TIller inspired imagine. Idk you guys decide on that:
