Basically a Gryffindor!Shawn x Slytherin!Malfoy!Reader

Pure-blood, a status that is supposed to put you above the rest, above the half-bloods and the muggle-borns. I've heard that word repeated by my brother and father before. They taught him to be cruel towards mudbloods as he was much more superior to them and even towards those who tolerate muggles. However, once it comes to me, they only teach me etiquette, mostly because of my mother.

He was taught everything from the pure-blood superiority to whatever my father seemed fit. Yet the only time they had a talk with me being a wizard was when I accidentally set the entire drawing room on fire without anything inside burning down. After that, they taught us some spells, hexes, and even curses before I was accepted into Hogwarts as they claim that the professors do not teach us the essentials.

My brother didn't mind. In fact, he wanted it that way, to make sure that there is a very little chance that I might end up in my parents' footsteps. Funny, right? Who knew that the Draco Lucius Malfoy would be protective over his little sister? Yet being not even two years older than me, he decided that he would take on that role once I was born.

"First years, this way!" A gigantic man called out once we got out of the train.

I looked over to my twelve year-old brother and tightened my grip on his hand as he continued to talk to his friends. He seemed to feel me tugging on his arm as he brought his attention to me. I merely looked up at him and pouted, afraid of being separated from him. He gave me a small, reassuring smile and knelt down in front of me.

"Go on." He said, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "I'll see you later at dinner after you are sorted."

"But Draco, what if I'm not sorted into Slytherin?" I muttered, looking down at my shoes.

"You will be, y/n. You're a Malfoy, after all. But even if you get sorted into Hufflepuff, I will still love you endlessly."

"That's probably the sweetest thing you've ever said to anyone ever."

"Oh shut it, you little weirdo." He said, chuckling as he shook his head at my comment. "You're the only one I would be nice and sweet to. You're my sister, remember? And I solemnly swear to protect you and love you at all cost."

I threw my arms around his neck and buried my head in his chest. He chuckled and placed a kiss on my forehead. I hesitantly pulled away from my brother's hold before running off towards the bearded man. Once I got in line, I could not help but stand in awe as we went inside the campus. The man, whom he introduced himself as Hagrid, gave us a quick tour before leading us to the hallway leading to the Great Hall.

"Hi." Someone muttered beside me.

I turned my head and saw a guy with dark brown eyes and brown hair, nervously chewing on his lower lip. He gave me a shy smile, glancing at his hands ever so often. I returned the smile and turned to him completely. "Hi. You nervous?"

"Kind of. You?"

"Kind of. I'm just afraid of the possibility that I may be sorted into a completely different house from my family." I replied, letting out a shaky breath as I stared at the door that has yet to be opened. "What house do you want to be sorted into?"

"I... uh... I don't really know."

"Nonsense. Everyone has that one house in mind."

"I... uh... I kind of know nothing about them."

"Oh! I'm terribly sorry! You're a muggle-born, aren't you?"

"Yes." He uttered, looking down onto the floor.

I placed a hand on his shoulder, making him look up at me. "It's okay. I don't judge basing off someone's blood status unlike my brother. I'm y/n, by the way. Y/n Narcissa Malfoy." (IDRK 😂 Just figured since Draco's second name just happens to be his dad's first name so...)

"Shawn. Shawn Mendes." He said, shaking the hand I stretched out for him.

I opened my mouth to say something else yet was cut off when we were let in. I watched child after child get called and sit up on the chair as the sorting hat was placed on their heads. I watched as Shawn was called up, only for the sorting hat to scream "Gryffindor!" My eyes followed him sadly as he was welcomed to his new house. I knew that if I really do get into Slytherin, the possibility of both of us becoming friends is slim as our houses are rivals.

"Y/n Malfoy."

My attention snapped back to the sorting as I shakily breathed in and stepped forward. Once I sat down on the chair, I couldn't help myself from glancing over at the Slytherin table, looking for the familiar platinum blonde head of hair, one oh so similar to my father's that I did not inherit. I eventually found Draco who gave me the best smile he could yet I could see in his gray eyes that he was nervous for me as well. The hat was barely even on my head when it screamed "Slytherin!", making me stand up and run over to Draco who opened his arms to me. I rushed into them and hugged him back as I sat beside him.

"I told you so." He said jokingly as he gave me a green and silver neck tie that signifies me being in that house.

"Wait, you're related?" The guy I saw Draco talk to earlier and referred to as Goyle asked, looking up from eyeing the food.

"Weren't you paying attention at all, Goyle? We both have the same last name and she was even with us during the train ride. Of course we're related. She's my sister, you stupid git."

"Ease off poor ol' Goyle, Malfoy." Blaise, the one friend I was introduced to on the train, chuckled, placing a hand on my brother's shoulder. "You two are not that much alike."

"How?"

"For starters, her hair is different to yours."

That was true. His hair is platinum blonde as I stated earlier while mine was mostly black with platinum blonde ends, more like my mother's except the black is much more dominant. Once they reached a certain length, the ends automatically turns blonde. How? Well, once you're part of the wizard world, you don't exactly get actual answers.

"And then, noticing from the fact that she has not called anyone else mudblood yet, I'm guessing she's nicer compared to you."

At that comment, I actually burst out laughing which earned me a playful glare from my brother. As the feast commenced, I could not help myself from glancing every once in a while in the direction of the Gryffindor table. Shawn turned away from a guy with brown hair and circular glasses and met my eyes. He gave me a small smile before carrying out a conversation with the ginger beside the first guy.

Time passed and in my stay in Hogwarts, people have started labeling me as the "angelic Malfoy", sometimes even "Slytherin's little princess".  It gets irritating and some even question me being put under Slytherin but I always came back with sarcastic and brutal comments. After all, I only treat people badly if they deserve it.

Y/bff/n and Nikki both stood on either side of me as I put on a false mask of confidence as I walked in the hallways. If I cannot carry out my last name in being brutal or even in my looks then might as well carry around the confidence and occasional cockiness. As we rounded the corner, I couldn't help but notice the crowd of Slytherins and Gryffindors gathered together as well as a few Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws with disappointed expressions. I pushed through the see of people and was met by the sight of my brother hovering onto Shawn's curled up and slightly bloodied body on the floor.

"Not so brave now, aye mudblood?" Draco spat, laughing as Shawn hissed in pain with his hand covering his left cheek. "I know it is completely impossible for  you to do so but maybe think the next time you talk back to a Slytherin, much more talk shit about one."

"Draco." I said, stepping forward as he pulled his arm back to throw another punch. "Draco, as entertaining as this is, you promised to help me with my Defense Against the Dark Arts homework."

"But-"

"Please. I need to get it done before all my homework piles up. And you know how mum and dad would react if I get a low grade."

"Fine." He begrudgingly stood up straight and worked towards me, placing a hand on my back as he led me to the library.

I turned my head a bit and tried to meet Shawn's chocolate brown eyes. When he did look up, I mouthed a quick "I'm sorry" before following my brother. Once we both sat down, my book in front as well as a piece of parchment, a quill, and an ink bottle, I sighed an faced him.

"Was that really necessary?" I asked.

"You should've heard him, y/n!" He growled. "Stupid mudblood thinks he's better than everyone else."

"Don't most pure-blooded wizards do the same as well?"

"Well, we have a reason to do it!"

"Can you at least drop it for now? We already have a lot to worry about and I did not want to worry about you getting expelled too."

"Why do you even stand up for that bloody douche anyway?"

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb with me, y/n. This isn't the first time you did something like this to protect that Mendes git."

"Maybe because it's not the first time I saw you try to hurt him?"

"But it's always him! Merlin, if you caught feelings for that mudblood, I will not hesitate to let you-know-who kill him! In fact, I would gladly do it myself!"

"Stop jumping into conclusions, Draco and just help me with my homework, please."  I huffed, crossing my arms at him.

An hour or so later, we were able to finish. I packed my stuff, thanked him before running our of the library. On the way, I accidentally bumped into the said mudblood. I looked up briefly to check if anyone else was around before grabbing his hand and practically pulled him to the Room of Requirements located in the seventh floor. Once we got it, I turned around and wrapped my arms around his neck.

"Hey." I said softly as his hands made their way to my sides.

"Hey, love." He whispered as he lowered his face to mine.

I stood on my toes and closed the gap between the two of us. He took that as a signal to lean in even closer and deepen the kiss. I ran my hand through his hair as he pushed me back towards a wall. When we pulled away, he leaned his forehead against mine and pulled my body closer to his.

"I've been waiting all day to do that." He said, reaching up to let his thumb trace my lips.

I opened my eyes and carefully placed a hand on his bruised cheek. "I'm sorry my brother did this."

"It's okay. I kind of deserved it."

"Yet it didn't even occur to you that Madam Pomfrey could fix that for you?"

"I will go to the medical wing later. I just want my girlfriend to heal it for me in the meantime."

"You're an idiot."

"Only yours."

"Has it even occurred to you that you're being a cheesy arse git for a fourth year student?"

I pushed off the wall and slipped past him to sit on one of the couches. He immediately ran over and placed his arm around my shoulder. I leaned closer to him and closed my eyes. There were a lot of underlying problems running around in my mind that I wanted to express yet decided to keep quite about it instead. He didn't need to know yet.

"Do you ever think that we can ever come out as a couple?" He asked, running his hand through my hair.

I merely sighed and shook my head. "Not now at least. After all, everyone is under the impression that Gryffindors and Slytherins must go against each other."

"I guess I'm just tired of hiding after being friends for two years then dating for more than a year."

"I know. But I guess it's a good thing."

"Why?"

"Because if Draco could hurt you that much for talking back to him, imagine what it would be like if he found out. And that's something I really cannot interfere with."

"You're right."

"I still don't understand why you're in Gryffindor." I said, sitting up straight to look at his confused expression.

"Why?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows at me.

"Because you're cute and fluffy. Basically like a Hufflepuff."

"You're lucky I love you, Malfoy."

"Love you too, Mendes."

A/N: Another one of those stories wherein it sounded way better in my head. I've literally been obsessed with Draco for the past few weeks. And for some reason, I kinda wanted to do this but I'm not sure if I'm getting everything correct. Kinda wasn't able to really watch the series until now since my parents are insanely strict (was only able to do so when one of them was at a business trip and the other had night shifts 😂). Trying to work on a part two (another bitter-sweet  imagine since I just cringe at the idea of happy endings nowadays)
