After Callum had parked the car we didn't have any other incidents such as the one at the gate, and for that I was thankful. A woman came and lead us to a very luxurious office and told us to wait there for "Master" Van Benschoten and his friend Mr. Oberdeck. Hearing that Italian bastard's name irked me but a low growl of irritation had me turning my head to look at Callum. My eyebrows shot up into my hairline as I saw his brooding form sitting in the seat next to me. I wonder what caused this drastic attitude change.
The door to the office opened and in stepped the man I want to disappear and his idiot lackey. Both held huge smiles on their faces, that is until Oberdeck looked somewhere just slightly behind me and scowled. I turned to see what he was looking at and could practically see Callum's mood darken, something I didn't think was even possible. Callum scoffed at the man Oberdeck and shot him the middle finger.
"Well aren't you polite?" Oberdeck sneered.
"Oh, get fucked." Callum shot back. I cleared my throat and threw a folder onto the desk and nodded toward it. Adrian sighed and took the seat behind the desk and opened the folder with Oberdeck standing behind him, peering over his shoulder.
We sat in silence as they went over the pages in the folder. When they were done Adrian was nodding his head.
"We believe it to be one of the new recruits that has connections with one of the higher ups in the group or for it to be someone from the middle ranks," Oberdeck informed us.
Callum frowned at this. "What makes you so sure it's one of them? What exactly are we dealing with here?"
Oberdeck leaned on the wall as he glanced between the two of us. I could see he was debating on how much he should tell us but when Adrian turned and gave him a look, he sighed in defeat knowing he had to tell us everything.
"Someone has been giving out information on where we are going to do our next trade with other groups that we have alliances with for mostly weapons and ammunition." Callum seemed skeptical about his answer as he sat there mulling it over as I got comfortable in my seat.
"What about drugs?" I questioned.
Oberdeck and Adrian both looked at me in schock. "What?" Adrian spat, suddenly angry.
I rolled my eyes, ignoring his sudden man period. "Drugs, happy day stuff, puff it and huff it?"
He was staring at me like he was about to either try to beat the crap out of me or he was going to throw something, all probably because he didn't understand. I let out a very frustrated sigh and scratched the back of my neck, looking down at the the floor and tried to think of a polite way to put it so he would understand.
I snapped my head back up and blurted out," you know, that shit that either fills your lungs or enters your blood stream and slowly kills you off?"
Adrian and Oberdeck's eyes narrowed as they remained still and silent. No one moved or said anything until Oberdeck moved off the wall and moved his hand down towards his hip, causing Callum's and my hand to grab the handles of our weapons, prepared to draw and shoot at any moment. Oberdeck raised a brow at this but held his hand up without a word.
"No, we don't deal with drugs," Adrian murmured, watching us curiously. "The only times we do and or would is when it is absolutely necessary. That would be when one of our alliances' personally ask for help or if the company and group is doing poorly."
I stood and paced the room. None of this was making any sense, why would anyone deliberately target Adrian's group when they essentially had nothing to gain? What could they possibly be going after?
I stopped pacing and whirled back around. "Surely you don't only deal in weapons and ammunition. What else are you involved in?"
"Prostitution, gambling, money- laundering at times," Adrian ticked off on one hand. Wow, mother's must love him. I gave him a blank stare before I returned to my pacing.
It could be someone who watches the brothels and then reports to him directly, but then again it could also not be. A thought slapped me so hard in the face I almost screamed with the sheer stupidity of how stupid I could be. I walked to Callum and pulled him out of his chair, holding up one finger to the two men watching us as I dragged my partner over to a corner in the room.
"None of this is making any sense," Callum whispered, standing in front of me with his back to the other two men. It was clear to see that Callum was frustrated for he was trying to figure out this puzzle piece too before we had even started working on it. It looked like he wanted to get out of here as quickly as I did.
I held up a hand, giving him a stern look. "This is going to sound far fetched," I began, whispering as well. "But just go with me. What if it isn't one of the new recruits at all?"
He cocked his head to the side and shifted his weight to one foot.
"Dom, what the hell are you talking about?" He susurrated.
"What if it's someone from a higher up position?" I suggested. "Maybe somebody in one of the ranks that are third or fourth, but they aren't able to play with the big boys."
Something seemed to click in and his eyes lightened. He was about to say something to me when someone loudly cleared their throat. I glared over Callum's shoulder at the offender and saw Oberdeck with an expectant face.
"It's obvious your mother never taught you patience," I scowled at him, letting my irritation seep into my voice. "So we'll just have to see if another minute or two will kill you."
"Hopefully it will," Callum muttered, not even bothering to turn around and glaring at the ceiling. I sighed and glanced back at Adrian and Oberdeck but I no longer had Oberdeck's attention, Callum did though. I grabbed Callum and shoved him behind me, eliciting a startled cry from him, and stood in front of him protectively.
"Think you could stop staring at my partner's ass?" I growled. Oberdeck glowered at me and stalked toward me, looking fully intent on killing me. I met him halfway and sized him up even though I had to look up at him seeing as he was a good six inches taller than I was.
"I should beat the crap out of you," he threatened. "Maybe then you'll learn to show some respect and quit being a little spit fire."
"You can try," I smirked. " But we both know that I'd win considering I'd just go Donkey Kong on you."
His eyes narrowed into slits as he bumped me with his chest and balled up his fists, and I balled up mine preparing to hit him.
"You little shit!"
"Up yours, Godzilla!"
"Bryan," We both looked over to see a fuming Adrian who was now standing. He didn't have to say another word and Oberdeck, who's first name was actually Bryan, bowed his head and left the room. Adrian then turned his gaze to Callum and I as we approached his desk once more and he ran a hand through his hair.
"Callum Montes," He handed over a clipboard with some papers and two binders. "You'll be Bryan's assistant throughout your undercover operation."
"What?!" Callum screeched. I tilted away from him and covered my ear.
"This will not be up for discussion,"Adrian's tone was one of finality. "You will begin your job immediately so you will be able to keep up appearances to those who are unaware of your actual identity here in the house."
Before Callum could argue any further, Adrian dismissed him with a wave of his hand. I turned to Callum.
"We both are going to be sharing a room so at five this evening we will meet up and discuss our further actions. For now just stay low and stay out of that guy Bryan's way." I advised. Callum nodded and walked toward the door but before he could touch the doorknob Adrian stopped him.
"I would advise the both of you to go under an alias."
Callum scoffed before opening the door. "We aren't as stupid as you think Van Benschoten."
As soon as the door shut I heard Adrian say, "now I believe I had a month to woo you."
Dear God, give me the strength to not brutally murder this man.
Hope you enjoyed this one, the next one will be up soon!
