Alessandro's POV

A week had passed since Lorenzo told me about the engagement party. When I informed Isabella about it, she got upset, but she didn't say anything. After that, she was acting distant towards me. When I asked if it was because of the engagement, she told me it wasn't related to it; she just felt exhausted.

After taking a shower, I put on a white shirt and black pants. Then I put on my navy blue tie and my black suit.

When I left my room, I saw our housekeeper. I asked where Isabella was. She told me she was in the garden. Then I went to the garden.

Isabella was sipping her apple juice, lost in her thoughts while stroking her showing bump.

"Good morning, bella mia." I said cheerfully and planted a quick kiss on her cheek. She jolted in fear. "I am sorry." I gave her an innocent smile and placed a soft kiss on her belly, stroking it gently.

Isabella looked around nervously and said. "Ale, someone can see us."

I raised my eyebrow at her. It was me who always warned about it; she never said it and wanted to tell the truth. I sighed and pulled the chair closer to her. I sat down on the chair and leaned my elbows on my thighs.

"What happened, Isabella? You look strange." I asked.

"Nothing, Ale. I told you I just get exhausted quickly. That's all." She said, bored without looking at me.

"Bella..."

"Alessandro." My aunt called me happily as she and my mother walked towards us.

"Good morning." I said as I stood up and approached her. I hugged her. She hugged me back. Then she greeted Isabella.

"How is this little one?" My aunt asked, smiling and rubbed Isabella's belly.

"He is fine. Thanks." Isabella gave her a lazy smile. "Umm...Excuse me. I have to use the bathroom." She mumbled, avoiding my gaze and left. I watched her leave. She was lying; I was sure of it.

Fuck! What is with her? Why is she acting like this?

I was in the study room, talking on the phone with a Russian businessman about our new project.

"Yes. My assistant will inform you.See you." I stated.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.

"Come in." I said as I hung up the phone.

The door opened and my mother walked in.

"We need to talk." She stated with a serious expression as she approached me.

"Mom, can it wait? I have to go to the company." I said.

"It is important." She replied.

"I am all ears." I stated as I put my hand into my pocket.

"What is going on between you and Isabella?" She asked firmly.

My eyes widened in shock. I cleared my throat, averting my gaze.

"Umm...What are you talking about?" I mumbled, rubbing my neck.

"I think you know very well what I am talking about." She gave me a knowing look as she folded her arms over her chest. "Just stay away from her." She demanded.

"Mom, there is nothing between us." I lied, running my hand through my hair as I approached the window, my hand in my pocket.

"Do you feel something towards Isabella? Please, tell me the truth." My mother stated.

"Umm...No." I lied as I turned around. My jaw dropped as I saw Isabella at the door. She gave me a disappointed look and rushed away.

"Where are you looking at, Alessandro?" My mother asked, annoyed as she turned around, but Isabella had already left.

"Mom, I have to leave." I said and left without letting her say anything.

I went to Isabella's room. I knocked on the door and opened the door as there was no voice coming from inside.

"Isabella, what are you doing?" I asked, puzzled as I saw her packing her suitcase.

As she didn't respond, I breathed deeply and approached her.

"What are you doing? Where are you going?" I asked firmly and grabbed her wrist.

"Let go of me!" She snapped, pulling her arm away as tears ran down her cheeks.

"Isabella." I said softly and cupped her cheeks. "Are you crying because of my words? Bella mia, I love you so much. Don't you know it?" I declared and wiped her tears off her cheeks.

She looked down without saying anything. I sighed and cupped her chin, lifting her head up. She nibbled her lower lips while tears were running down her cheeks.

"I love you, bella mia. You are my breath. My everything." I confessed, stroking her cheek affectionately.

She breathed deeply as she pulled back.

"It will be better if I leave the mansion." She murmured, sobbing.

"Never! You will not leave my side. You are my wife, the mother of my baby. I will not let you stay alone especially in your state." I stated firmly, clenching my fist.

"I don't want to create any problems." She mumbled, resting her hand on her belly.

I narrowed my eyes and asked, confused. "Isabella, what actually happened? Tell me."

She bit her lower lip without looking into my eyes.

"Your mother is uncomfortable with my presence here." She mumbled.

I raised my eyebrow and asked in frustration. "Did she tell you anything?" She didn't say anything. I cupped her chin, lifting her head up. "Did she tell you anything?" I repeated, looking into her eyes.

"She told me to keep my distance and don't create any problem between you and...your fiancee." She mumbled, sobbing and wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand.

"Mom!" I exclaimed, frustrated and ran my hand through my hair angrily.

I breathed deeply, trying to calm down and approached Isabella. I placed my hands on her arms.

"Don't listen to her. She didn't know about us. So she is worried." I said softly. "You know how much she likes you." I added and wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her closer to my and rested my hand on her stomach. "You are not going anywhere." I declared, determined.

"But..."

"No buts. You are staying here. It isn't up for discussion." I cut her off and planted a chaste kiss on her lips as I wiped the tears off her cheeks with my thumb.
