"Ohh, Kai, you are here too! With Cecil!" Hana chirped, strolling into the canteen with Xue.

"Hana."

"Hi Hana!"

Cecil and Kai were seated around a table, it was free time for the students. Their table was unusually separated from the other students, after all, no one wanted to intrude on their couple time.

Cecil wouldn't know about the rumours about them being lovers, since she was locked up almost all the time, focusing on training.

"Let's join them, Xue!"

"Whatever you wish."

The four of them sat at the table, and the students couldn't help gossiping.

"Kai, isn't that the food that's always sold out?" Hana looked curiously at Kai's tray.

It was a cupcake, however, it was blue in colour and Cecil knew long ago that it wasn't a food colouring...also how nasty it tasted.

"You could say so."

"I never tried it before, let me try!" Hana reached forward and grabbed a portion for herself.

"Hana, wait--"

The three of them tried to stop Hana, but she was too quick, putting the cupcake in her mouth using the fork. Immediately, her bright expression twisted.

The reason why this unique cupcake was always sold out...it was because the demand was small.

"Wahter, wabter, wahhter!"

Cecil pressed her palm against her forehead, and Kai panicked, shoving Hana's cup to her face. Hana gulped down the water, spitting her tongue out as she made many different noises.

"So horrible! That's horrible, Kai! Horrible!"

"We tried to stop you..." Kai scratched his head and Hana took Xue's cup, drinking down his water.

"I can't get rid of the taste!"

Xue instantly reached for Cecil's cup, wanting to place it on Hana's tray. However, Kai stopped him, their hands on Cecil's cup.

"Hands off Cecil's cup."

"You take your hands off."

Cecil raised her eyebrows.

The two men narrowed their eyes at each other, initiating a staring contest. Cecil was speechless, her hand going to her cup as she forced a smile.

"I don't mind if Hana takes my cup to drink."

Why are the two protagonists fighting over a cup of water that I don't care about...

Hana swallowed her saliva, cringing at the taste in her mouth again. "Since Cecil said so, let me drink!"

They were still pulling at the cup, and Kai released quickly. Xue, just a nanosecond slower, pulled the cup towards him by accident.

Before anyone knew it, the sudden force caused the water to splash out from the cup and attack his face and shirt.

"..."

"..."

"...I...I didn't do anything!" Kai blurted out, raising his hands up in surrender.

Cecil sucked in her lips, turning her head away and her shoulder started to shake with mirth.

Hana giggled, taking out her handkerchief to wipe Xue's face.

Xue was still stunned at what occurred. He narrowed his eyes at Kai, and then at Cecil who was trying to hide her laughter.

Cecil laughed harder.

Cecil sighed, sitting on the chair on the courtyard. She was staring at the flowerpot, the plant was almost matured.

It would normally take a year for this plant to fully grow, but Cecil managed to do it within eleven days.

"Like Miss Eri said, once I learned how to make it grow, the rest of it is a lot easier..." Cecil murmured to herself.

I am supposed to feel happy, but I'm not happy.

"You managed to make it fully grown?" Kai interrupted Cecil's brooding session.

Cecil was no longer surprised by Kai appearing out of nowhere. "Not yet, but almost."

Kai grinned, sitting down opposite her.

"You used to be startled by me appearing, now you don't seem to care."

"Well, Kai, because no matter what I say, you'll always say you are here--"

"Because of you, Cecil."

Cecil gave him a resigned smile, shaking her head.

Cecil was surprised that she actually sparring with Kai, the protagonist's alter. Moreover, she managed to land a very tiny hit on him.

"Did Miss Eri teach you how to use your second form yet?"

Cecil panted, nodding. She had lost the sparring session, but she wasn't upset in the slightest bit.

Kai inviting me for a sparring session, that is the highest honour a fan could ever have!

"Would you mind letting me see?" Kai asked.

"Of course," Cecil smiled. "But I have to be honest, I've only touched the very start of it. I am still currently training to unlock my fourth gate."

"I still want to see."

"Alright."

Cecil unsheathed her one of her dagger, giving it a slow and careful twirl with her hands. She had only started to play around with the daggers after she achieved the first stage of growth for the plant.

Along with her teacher's harsh training sessions, Cecil managed to control the daggers a little better.

Cecil tightened the grip on her right hand, the earth symbol glowing slightly brighter. A thin vine slowly crawled up from her hand, her sleeves hiding the rest of her arm which was covered in little vines. The vines then curled around the blade, and Cecil bit on her lower lip.

Kai leaned in, seeing sharp, needle-like thorns present on the vines.

Cecil panted, loosening her grip and the vines disappeared back into her arm. Kai clapped softly as she kept her dagger, and she chuckled at Kai.

"Earth and water elements are better than fire and air."

"Why?"

"If they were used by the right people, like you and Hana...it looks serene."

"Hmmm," Cecil hummed thoughtfully. "Fire and air elements are flashy, and they look beautiful if used for movements like...dancing."

"Dancing...?" Kai furrowed his eyebrows and he stood up, making an awkward dancing gesture. "Like this?"

Cecil smiled in amusement, standing up and shaking her head. "Something like this."

She twisted her body and twirled once, and another twirl, her robes following her motions.

"You...you dance?" Kai was in awe.

"I learned it from my mother, she was a professional dancer from a popular troupe in the past."

"You should show it to me," Kai grinned. "But not now, of course."

Cecil chuckled, ruffling Kai's hair. "Alright, someday, I'll show it to you."

...unfortunately, you'll be assimilated with Xue by then.

The light in Cecil's eyes dulled, and her smile dropped a little.

"Cecil? You are here as well? I thought you said you would be too busy training to spare any time." Kai frowned, seeing the group of people standing in his room.

Xue, Cecil and his master, the academy's principal, were there and their expressions were grave.

"Kai, good that you are here. Have a seat."

Kai glanced at Cecil, and Cecil couldn't help but look away after meeting his bright yellow eyes for a second.

"...did something bad happen? Don't tell me...Hana?!" Kai prepared to stand up and rush out.

"It's not Hana, it's regarding you." Xue stated indifferently.

"Me?"

His master cleared his throat, stroking his beard. "These two friends of yours informed me of your...damaged soul. They said they are here to help you recover."

"Damaged soul?"

"Why have you not told me this before, Kai?" his master was unhappy, sounding concerned.

Kai blinked, observing Xue for a long moment. After that, his eyes drifted to Cecil and Kai glanced down.

"Master," Kai looked up at his master. "Would you mind giving us some privacy?"

His master nodded, "Very well. Inform me of the progress later on."

The wise old man left, and the huge room was enveloped in silence. Since Kai was the principal's only precious disciple, he was privileged with a luxurious room.

His bed was supported by a strong, wooden frame, and its bedsheets were a light blue colour, smooth and soft. The room was furnished with a table, wardrobe and it came along with a personal bathroom.

"...you came here after all, Xue." Kai spoke, breaking the suffocating atmosphere.

"What do you think I came here for?" Xue asked, his grey eyes were unconcerned.

"To absorb my soul."

《 start 》

I can feel it.

The time for me to say farewell...is near.

I knew it, ever since that day I fought with Xue, there was a time limit to how long "Kai" could exist.

I wonder how would Cecil react if she knew. Ever since I saw her, Xue has been with her...maybe she knows.

...she's here.

She knows after all.

...that's a relief. If she didn't know and if I had to tell her myself, I can't do it.

I won't.
