Cecil shifted closer to the edge of the wall, stretching her head out. Hana stood beside Cecil, her hands behind her back, her eyes wide as she switched back and forth between Cecil and the alleyway.

"Cecil, isn't it bad to eavesdrop?" Hana whispered and Cecil hushed her.

"But it's bad!"

"It is imperative that I listen in!" Cecil hissed back, somehow maintaining her arrogant facade.

"Imperative? Ohhh, it's important?"

Cecil pressed her finger onto Hana's lips, sneaking a peek at the two men. They were standing opposite one another, Xue leaning on the wall as he crossed his arms. Meanwhile, Kai looked at his feet, kicking it lightly.

"...you really have no memories of me, don't you?" Xue asked, his face impassive.

Kai paused, looking up. "No, do I need to know you?"

"No."

"...and can I just say, you looking somewhat like me is creepy."

"Indeed." Xue agreed, nodding his head.

"Is it possible if we stay away from each other as far away as possible? It's really...disturbing."

"I am disturbed as well."

"Right? So it's an agreement? Oh, and Ha-Hana, seems like your...friend? It feels weird to look at her, do you mind bringing her far away too? Even though it feels kinda painful?"

"I will."

"...this is really weird..."

Hana pulled Cecil's finger from her lips, hearing someone faintly calling her name. She wanted to step forward, and Cecil hurriedly stopped her.

"Hana, stop."

"Aren't they calling my name?"

"They can't know we are here."

Hana pouted, "oh, alright then."

Cecil turned back to look at them, only seeing Xue wearing a smirk on his handsome face.

That smirk made Cecil uneasy.

Something wasn't right.

"You truly don't have any feelings for Hana?"

"Fe-feelings?! Uh, I wouldn't say no, there is something I feel for her, I just don't know what it is."

Xue's eyes darkened, and he lifted himself of the wall.

"And that woman?"

"Woman?" Kai blinked. "You talking about Cecil?"

Cecil started to sweat nervously, this conversation seem to heading in a dangerous direction.

"What do you feel for her?"

Xue started walking towards Kai and Kai reached behind his neck, scratching it as he grinned sheepishly.

"She is beautiful, and I really like her."

Xue laughed coldly at his words, his eyes holding a hint of delight. "As expected, this makes it all better."

"...?"

Xue opened up his right hand, and suddenly, a red marble ball ejected itself from his body, shining brilliantly.

"You were the reason why I was being called to the academy. Now, you are changing, I can feel it, and it makes it so much easier."

"What is that? Hey...what are you doing?"

His smirk grew wider, his expression malicious.

Cecil paled.

The--the protagonist is planning to absorb Kai's soul!

What is happening?! It's way too early!

Th-th-this can't happen!

In the novel, once Kai's soul was absorbed, the body would be an empty vessel. The previous occupant of the body had his soul destroyed due to the process of the soul absorption.

Kai's master was the principal of the academy, and the principal treasured Kai deeply. Since Kai was an empty vessel after the process, he was dead.

Xue "killed" him and Xue didn't care, he knew of the consequences.

The principal went crazy with rage, expelling Xue from the school as Xue escaped. The Eagle Academy, from then onwards, was his enemy.

The principal launched an all-out war against one man.

Xue couldn't handle fighting constantly, especially against a whole academy. He was injured at one point, and Hana was kidnapped.

It was a long and tough fight for Xue, who ended up destroying the academy after absorbing his fourth soul.

After that, finding out the truth, Hana started to view Xue differently, even growing slightly scared of him.

Cecil couldn't allow things to escalate to that point, her existence was here to make sure Xue and Hana didn't suffer!

Now she realised why the system had warned her to eavesdrop, if she didn't, it would be all over!

Protagonist! Great lord Xue! You can't do this!

She moved on instinct, rushing into the alleyway, her face extremely pale as cold sweat formed on her back.

"Xue, stop! Not yet, not now!"

"Ce--"

Cecil dashed right in front of Kai, blocking him and gripping Xue's wrist. She immediately forced his palm to close, and she spun around, her hands touching Kai's hair, face and arms.

Kai's element is fire, if the absorption has already begun, his body will start to burn up.

Her mind was only focused on checking Kai's body temperature. Thankfully, it was still within the normal range and she released a shaky sigh.

"Hana!"

Hana revealed herself and she tilted her head.

"Take Kai out of here, hurry!"

Hana nodded and skipped up to Kai, holding his wrist.

"Okay!" Hana smiled, and proceeded to look at Kai. "Since Cecil said to bring you away, let's go! Have you ever tried the drinks at Plik? They are delicious!"

"Ce-Cecil?!"

Kai's eyes were wide in shock as he stumbled along with Hana. She could feel Xue struggling behind her when Hana touched Kai, and dragged him away.

Once they were out of sight, Xue freed himself from Cecil and shoved her, pinning her against the wall in one swift motion. Cecil grunted, glancing up and tensing up when she met his menacing eyes.

"You stopped me. You knew what I was trying to do." Xue scowled, his voice laced with anger. "Cecil Lan, how did you know?"

Cecil pressed herself onto the wall, trembling slightly.

The window suddenly appeared, blocking Xue's face, but it didn't help Cecil. Seeing the message, she only blanched.

"How?" Xue leaned in as the message closed. "How did you know?"

Cecil swallowed nervously, clenching her fists as she squeezed her eyes close. They were so close that Cecil could even feel his breath on her face.

"I...I-I don't...it-it's not, I-I--"

"Speak. Properly." Xue enunciated.

She turned away, his breath now blowing on her hair and it tickled her cheeks.

"I...I had a vision!"

Lies. Lies. Lies.

I have no choice! I have to bluff my way out of this, or I'm dead!

Even with her eyes closed, Cecil could still see the annoying message. The message informing her of her impending doom.

"A vision?"

"Ye-yes!"

"Look at me and talk."

Cecil opened an eye, peeking at Xue and she found him smiling down at her.

However, that smile only sent chills down her spine.

"Don't worry, I won't kill you. Just tell me and I'll let you go."

Cecil could feel her knees growing weak.

Great lord protagonist, I don't doubt your words but...your impression points of me says otherwise.

I only want to help you, I am not your enemy...but even if I tell you that I doubt you will believe me.

Cecil cried in her heart, and she inhaled deeply, gathering her courage to face Xue.

"Co-could you step back?" Cecil stuttered out.

Xue did as she requested, but his hands were still on the wall, preventing her from escaping.

Great lord protagonist! I won't escape from you, please give me more space!

Cecil however knew this was Xue being kind since she is his beloved wife's best friend.

Xue was growing impatient by the second, and Cecil knew she had to speak now.

"I had a vision a week before you arrived, I am a seer. I knew you would come here, and I know of your past life, as well as your present life. I know who Hana is, and yes...I know of your soul fragments scattered around the world." Cecil spilled out, trying to maintain impassive.

Lies, lies, even more lies!

What is this bullshit! There are no seers in this world! This is the worst improvisation I have ever done!

Fuck! Fuck me! Fuck my life!

Cecil remained silent, looking at Xue whose face expression was inscrutable.

"A seer, you say? But I have never seen a seer in either of my lives."

Please refrain from spouting vulgarities, thank you~ ]

Cecil could only continue cursing.

"Seers...aren't supposed to reveal themselves, unless they have no other choice."

Xue finally withdrew, and Cecil heaved a sigh of relief.

"What left you with no other choice?"

"Because you would absorb Kai's soul and destroy the previous occupant as well."

"And what's wrong with that?"

Cecil knows Xue won't care about a person he doesn't know about.

"The academy will launch a full-scale manhunt on you, and Hana will be pulled in naturally, even kidnapped."

...and she will come to fear you in some ways.

Cecil bit back the next sentence she almost uttered out and Xue, hearing about the future, remained quiet.

Cecil looked down, inhaling deeply and slapped her facade back on. She hoped Xue wouldn't question her anymore, and hopefully, let her go in one piece.

Surely, my impression points won't go any lower right?

Xue opened his mouth just then. "And...this left you with no choice but to reveal who you are, because you want to help prevent this?"

Cecil nodded.

"...why are you helping me?"

"Because I want to." Cecil uttered the same words she had said on that day.

Xue was immediately brought back to that moment, stunned.

Because she wants to? She wants to...? She wants to help...me?

...what a disgusting lie.

He recovered from his shock, and this time, instead of thanking her, he became hostile.

Warning: Your impression points is dangerously low! ]

Cecil was horrified.

Xue really doesn't believe in people anymore, after what happened in his previous life. It's just like what the author stated...

Xue closed the distance again, panting heavily. Cecil could see that he was becoming extremely unstable, she saw his hand hovering, playing around her neck.

"Why do you want to help me? What have I ever done for you? All you just want is a favour, isn't it?"

His fingers were closing around her neck, and his grey eyes showing a myriad of emotions.

"Fine, I'll grant you one."

"But I--"

"What do you desire?"

"I don't--"

"Spit it out!"

Cecil inhaled deeply, closing her eyes and she opened them.

She could only answer honestly now.

"I want you to be happy."

《 start 》

The first betrayal were by my trusted ones, my closest comrades. I watched as they laughed at my demise while standing by his side.

The second betrayal was by my beloved, my own woman. I watched as she left my side to stand by his side.

I saved them all from him, I protected them all from him, I sacrificed my life for them.

But they still stood by his side in the end.

Enough.

This world...I'll destroy it, everything. Where not even a speck remains.

...

...is it so hard to have someone to stay by my side...?
