When I wrote the first poem in this book, I was in a very dark place in my life. With no job, no purpose, no sense in life, I fell into the pit of depression. I put what little energy I still had into the maintenance of an unbalanced relationship, which only made matters worse. Soon enough, that person was my everything and I felt completely worthless without them, but they were just as broken as me. So we went back and forth, trying to fix each other and only ending up with more pain than we had felt before. I never knew it was possible to get trapped by my own mind in such a way.It took me around two years to break out of this trap and start living life for myself, not for the validation of others. All the while I kept writing poems to help me deal with my emotions. This is the story of the worst part of my life thus far and how I escaped it.Depression is real. Emotional abuse is real.
