Since days there is only talk about the imminent end of the world. On each and every wavelength politicians, scientists and dubious experts speculate about the asteroid that's going to hit Earth. As time and the asteroid rush on, the levels of urgency and panic rise. Humankind suddenly is ready to set conflicts aside, to find a way out of the apocalypse. But nothing can stop the catastrophe. Nuclear strikes are as useless as fervent prayers.

I follow the debates quietly, knowing the human race is doomed. Most know it, but are too stubborn to acknowledge failure. Meanwhile the rock closes in. Its impact will erase live as it follows gravity to its destiny.

Finally, I get revenge. The impact will hurt, but this is a reliable way to get rid of humans for good, to finish my torture.

Wistfully I remember the days they affectionately called me 'Mother Earth'.
