I VIKRAM I

"So Diya, where are you from?", I ask Meera's new friend as we enter the main road.

"I'm from Mumbai", she says.

"Oh, so are you staying in the dorms?", I ask her.

"Yeah. But my room mate sucks. Too bad Meera's staying with her sister, otherwise we could've traded rooms", she says as she moves forward in her seat.

"Too bad, indeed", I say as I glance at Meera. When she raises her eyebrows at me, I look away.

I don't know what it is about her today, but it's been driving me crazy since this morning. Maybe it's that green kurti that she's wearing. She looks good in green. Too damn good and it's messing with my head .

I have all this restless energy inside me and to make matters worse, I'm sporting a semi just looking at her. I bring my elbow down as I hold the bottom part of the steering wheel, trying to discreetly hide the evidence of my arousal for her.

"So Vikram, what do you do?", Diya asks as she places her hands on the headrests of the seats, distracting me.

"I work as a Project Manager at Info Park. I work with Meera's brother-in-law", I tell her, thankful for her presence. She is acting like a buffer between me and Meera and she doesn't even know it.

"Oh. So do you live near them?", She asks and I can see Meera is getting annoyed by every minute. I think she's afraid Diya will know I'm not just her sister's friend.

"Yeah. In the apartment just above theirs. Karthi, that's Meera's brother-in-law, and I used to be room mates before Shraddha, and that's Meera's sister, moved in with him. Did you know that Meera is staying in my old room? She specifically asked for it", I tell her, satisfied when Meera whips her head towards me with a glare.

"I did not. It was the only room available", she bites out looking between Diya and me.

Diya laughs, "you guys are so cute", she says and I can't hide my smile. But that just makes Meera even more pissed off.

"We aren't anything. Ever", she says and I lose my smile.

"Are you sure about that, darling?", I ask her as I lean towards her, it's a damn good thing that we're stuck in traffic.

Her breath hitches lightly before she turns away from me, "yeah", she mutters.

"We'll see", I mutter back before facing the front.

The rest of the ride is silent as there's this thick tension inside the car that feels like it'll snap any moment. When we reach the bookstore, I wait for them to get out before parallel parking the car.

"I'll wait here. You guys go on", I tell them as I take a moment to calm down. I try not to stare at Meera's ass as it sways lightly when she walks away.

What? I'm no saint. I'm a man and men are gross, disgusting creatures who thinks farting is funny and pissing off the girl we like is romantic.

I wait inside the car, reading some of my emails. It's almost twenty minutes later that Meera and Diya walk out of the store, a plastic bag holding their books in their hands.

I reverse the car out of parking and stop right in front of them. Once they're buckled in safely, I take the car to the road.

"Are you ladies hungry?", I ask them. I didn't eat lunch yet, so I'm starving. And I can't wait to see what Meera will say to get out of this one.

"I am hungry. But I promised to video call my dad from my dorm during lunch. So you guys go on", Diya says with an apologetic smile.

"That's alright. Meera and I will get something to eat on our way home", I say and Meera doesn't protest. Now, that's a shock. Usually she's always trying to avoid spending any time alone with me.

"You can drop me at the nearest metro station", Diya says.

"That's alright. I'll drop you at your dorm", I tell her.

" You don't have to but thanks", she says.

"Anytime", I reply.

Meera and Diya chat the rest of the ride towards their college. Once I stop the car at the main entrance, Diya gets out before coming to stand next to Meera, outside the passenger seat.

"Meera, I'll see you later. I'm really glad that I met you", she says and Meera smiles, "I'm really glad I met you, too. And before I forget, I didn't get your number", she says.

Diya feeds her number into Meera's phone before handing it back to her.

"I'll call you", Meera says as she places her phone on the console.

"Vikram, it was nice meeting you. And I have a feeling that this won't be the last time we meet", she says, throwing a meaningful glance between Meera and me.

It's official, Diya is my new favourite person in Bangalore. She's now in the same list as Remya, Meera's cousin.

"You and me both", I tell her with a barely contained smile.

"Traitor", Meera mutters under her breath and Diya laughs.

"Bye bye", she waves her hand as she crosses the road before entering the campus through the main gate.

"So, shall we go, madam?", I ask Meera as I look into her eyes.

"Mmmhmm", she nods.

Soon we're on the main road heading towards home.

Home. It feels weird calling it our home. I wonder what it'd be like to have Meera next to me everyday. But I quickly erase that thought when I realise how utterly ridiculous and idiotic that sounds. This girl is trouble. She's seriously messing with my head.

But I'm not someone who runs from trouble, so I ask her, "what do you feel like eating?"

"Anything. I don't care, I'm hungry", she says.

"Alright, then. Biriyani?", I ask her.

"No. I'm not in the mood to eat biriyani", she says.

"Alright, then. Burger or sandwich?", I ask when I see a Burger king and Subway store up ahead.

"Nope. Something else", she says.

I look at her, annoyed. "You're the one that said you don't care what you eat, just that you're hungry", I remind her.

"Yeah, but I really don't want to eat a sandwich or burger", she says defensively and I roll my eyes.

Women!

"Then what do you feel like eating?", I ask her as we drive past the Subway.

"I don't know", she says and I groan.

"Meera"

"What?"

"Choose"

"I don't know, okay?"

"Does pizza sound okay, your highness?", I ask sarcastically.

I'm fucking hungry.

''I don't know", she says.

"Are you even hungry?", I ask her.

"Yes. I'm starving", she says, defensively.

"Then choose something so we can actually eat something", I tell her.

Women can be so hard to understand sometimes. And don't come at me. It's the truth. If men can be idiots then women can be difficult sometimes too.

"Alright. We can get a pizza. But from Pizza Hut", she says, "I don't like the ones from Domino's".

I can feel my jaw on the floor, "Are you serious? Did you actually just say Pizza Hut is better than Domino's?", I ask her.

"What? It's true", she says.

"Yeah, and the earth is flat", I deadpan.

"Whatever, it's just what I think", she says, folding her arms across her chest, making me glance down. I quickly glance away when I see the swell of her breasts pressed together.

"Alright. Fine", I concede.

If I stay any longer inside the car I'll do something stupid, like kiss her. Actually that doesn't sound so bad and that's exactly why I need to get out. See? I become an idiot when I'm hungry. Even more reason why I shouldn't argue with her about her questionable taste in Pizza, among other things.

We pull up to the Pizza Hut on the side of the road and she waits at the door as I park the car.

"Come on", I say as I accidentally grab her hand. But she doesn't pull away, so I don't release her hand until we're seated at the table on the side, close to the windows.

"I'm getting a pepperoni and cheese", I tell her.

"I'll have a cheese and tomato", she says.

I quickly place our order. Along with a sprite for her and a coke for me. I move back to my seat after.

"So, how was the first day?", I ask her as I cross my arms against my chest. Her eyes moves towards my biceps and I hide a smile that wants to get out and taunt her.

She clears her throat before glancing away, "It was fine. The speech was boring but Diya made up for it. I really like her", she says.

"I like her too", I say and she glances at me.

"Not like that. You know what I mean", I clarify seeing the look in her eyes.

"I don't care. You can like whoever you want. It's none of my business", she says nonchalantly, looking away.

"If you really believe that, then it looks like I didn't make myself clear", I tell her.

"Make what clear?", She asks in a low voice, seeing the look on my face.

"That it's you I like. That it's you that's been driving me crazy for the past three months and then to make matters worse, you moved here and now it's even harder, staying away from you", I tell her. I feel like some weight had been eased off from my chest when I finally tell her.

I can tell that she wasn't expecting me to say something like that. She's frozen. Her mouth opens and closes, not knowing what to say.

"Vikram, I... I..", she stutters, her eyes wide, after a few moments of shocked silence.

I go back to reading the menu but she grabs it from me aggressively but I don't let go.

"You can't do that!", She says, glaring. She tries to pull the menu away from my hands.

"Do what ?", I ask though I know what she means. I tug the menu back and that only makes her madder.

"You can't just say something like that and go back to... back to reading the menu like that", she says, her face all flustered and red, her words stumbling over themselves.

"Why the hell not?", I ask as I finally let go of the menu, ending our little tug of war game.

She throws the menu on the table with more force that needed. "You just can't. That's .. that's so...", She trails of, not finding the right words.

"We'll, it looks like I just did. And I'll do it again. I like you. I like you so damn much that I can't think about anything else these days", I tell her. I can't keep my smile from growing when I see all the emotions playing on her face. Anger, incredulity, and annoyance.

"Ughh... you... God, you're so annoying", she says. I wait for her to say something else but she closes her mouth. She stares at me for a few moments before looking away. Soon, they rings out our order and I go to collect it.

Meera looks at the pizza like it's her lifeline when I place our pizzas on the table and as ridiculous as it sounds, I've never wanted to be a pizza more in my life than in this moment.

We start eating in silence as I steal glances at her. I see her looking at my pizza, so I push the box towards her, "want some?", I ask her.

"I'll just have a little taste", she says as she takes a bite. "Mmmm", I shift in my seat when she moans around the slice of pizza.

"Is it any good?", I tease her and she looks bashful as she bobs her head.

Fucking adorable!

She proceeds to take a few more bites and she's about to take a second slice when I say, "just a little taste, huh?"

"I'm sorry but it's so good. Here you can have mine", she says as she pushes her boring tomato and cheese pizza towards me. She even has the nerve to look like she's doing something great for me. She pulls my box towards her before taking another slice.

"Fine", I concede.

As we walk towards the car, Meera moves closer to me. If it was intentional or not, I'm not sure. But I don't say anything.

We spend the ride home in silence. Meera turns the radio on and we lightly Bob our heads to the music as I weave through the heavy traffic.

Once we reach the building, Meera waits for me at the elevator as I lock the door and take my jacket, gloves and helmet from the trunk of the car.

Once inside the elevator I press the button to her floor. We stare at each other from the opposite sides of the elevator.

"Did I tell you how beautiful you look, today?", I ask her suddenly.

"No", she says as she crosses her arms, unaware that she's pushing her breasts together.

She shouldn't do that! It makes me want to do very bad things to her, right here!

Fuck, I'm such a perv. If she could read my mind, I'm sure she'd run far away from me..

"Well, you do. So damn beautiful. Green suits you", I tell her.

"I know", she says with a smile.

"And modest too", I shake my head at her and she giggles.

"Did you mean it?", She asks. "What you said earlier, did you mean it?"

"Of course, I fucking meant it. I thought I made myself clear. Guess, I was wrong", I tell her. I will myself to stay where I am and not move closer to her.

"But I don't.. I'm not sure-", she starts to say but I interrupt her.

"It's alright. It's just what I feel. You can take your time and think about it", I tell her as the elevator doors open to her floor.

"Now if you don't get out of this elevator, then I'm not sure you'll have time to think about anything", I tell her. Though I keep my voice light. Only God knows how hard I'm behind the jacket that I've used to cover my crotch.

She jerks before muttering a ''bye Vikram. Thanks for today", over her shoulder and shuffling out of the elevator. I wait for her to get inside the apartment before pressing on the button to my floor.

Looks like a cold shower is in order.
