•Davina Alexander•

As we ate, Alexandria kept on smiling at me and from time to time saying funny things that I could only understand half of. Elena actually told me that she's married to one of Diavolo's best friends and that he hasn't been in town for a month due to work but he will be here tomorrow.

When we were done eating, Alexandria was already asleep in Diavolo's arms – we were at that table for a long time – so he stood up and asked me to walk with him to his niece's room.

"You have any family?" He asked as we walked up the stairs.

I shook my head "Not that I know of; I really don't know if my mom and dad are still alive."

Diavolo nodded "What were their names?"

I frowned as the last memory of them played in my brain "Rachel and Stephen Alexander."

"And you were born in Honolulu?" He opened the door, then walked into the girl's bedroom which was a lavender color with vintage toys all around. I wish my room would've been like this when I was her age, but it has always been a white cube with a bed in the middle, a small table, and a tube where I hung up my short dresses, mini skirts, small tops, and the one long dress I was allowed to wear once a month.

"Yes," I replied, looking around "this room is beautiful." My feet took me around the room and a carved piece of wood above the bed caught my eye. I tried to read it, but it was impossible so I decided to focus my attention on Diavolo tucking in his niece. It's obvious they adore each other.

Diavolo pecked the girl's forehead and we left the bedroom together so he could turn off the light. Once the bedroom door was shut behind us, he looked at me "Tomorrow I would like you to have breakfast with me in my office; we have things to discuss," he told, glancing at his wristwatch.

I nodded "Yes, Sir."

"You don't have to call me that, just Diavolo," his eyes raised to meet mine, and I immediately looked away. "Goodnight, Davina," he lightly bowed his head before walking away.

"Goodnight Si–Diavolo," I watched him go into the last bedroom in the hall.

I was careful of my surroundings when Elena took me downstairs and I do know that my bedroom is actually the one across from Diavolo's.

It's weird being in such a big and cozy place. It's also odd not being given any instructions as to how I am to sleep at night; Jack forced me to sleep naked every night in case he or his friends ever wanted to use me in the middle of the night. It happened more often than not, and some didn't mind me pretending to be asleep while others demanded sounds to come out of my mouth.

The next morning, I was woken up by a knock on my door. Whoever knocked, opened the door and it turned out to be Alexandria with pigtails and a blue denim dress, looking at me as she climbed onto the bed.

"Hi," she waved with a sweet smile.

I gave her my best smile "Hi, bug."

She giggled and lay beside me, her eyes are the same color as Diavolo's "Water, water!" her smile warmed my heart.

My smile grew "You're thirsty?"

Alexandria shook her head and lifted up her dress to show me her pale yellow swimsuit "Water!" she said, pointing at the swimsuit.

"You want to go swimming?"

She nodded a lot and then jumped off the bed to run into the walk-in closet, and after two minutes she came back running to me with a bikini in her hands "For you," Alexandria handed it to me.

"For me?" I smiled nervously grabbing the two-piece white swimsuit.

She nodded violently "I wait for you outside," she pointed at the door and then dashed away.

"Wai–" she closed the door.

I sighed standing up to change from my PJs to the bikini. I cannot say no to the little girl who is adored by the man who seems to want to help me, besides, she's pretty sweet and cute. Before walking out of the bedroom I looked in the closet for something to wear over the swimsuit and ended up with a white linen mini dress and a pair of clear braided rubber sandals.

There are a lot of clothes in the closet, and it's all so soft and nice to the touch; you can see how expensive it is. It's odd that they would just have all these clothes in an empty room, but I do not dare to ask where they came from and if it was bought for me exclusively.

When I walked out of the bedroom, Alexandria was sitting on the floor with a book in her hands, I've held a couple but I've never actually been able to read more than a couple of words.

"Hi!" she jumped up and took my hand "good?"

I nodded with a smile "Good."

At the top of the stairs we were met by Elena who was wearing the same as Alexandria "Morning, Davina," she greeted with a smile "did she wake you up?"

I shook my head as Elena picked up her baby "No, I was already awake but I hadn't gotten up."

"Thank God," she chuckled "I could not convince her to go to the pool without you," Elena tickled Alexandria's belly and made her giggle. "Come on."

We walked downstairs together, and Elena told me to make myself at home; reminded me that I am a guest and that I should not feel fear or embarrassment to ask for whatever I might need.

The pool is huge and of this beautiful turquoise color that reminds me of the ocean back at home. Dominico was standing by the water, wearing baby blue swimming trunks.

"That's where you went?" Dominico asked with a smile as he leaned on the pool's edge.

Alexandria nodded "Auntie Davina," she giggled.

My cheeks turned red hearing her; I never even imagined someone would call me that but these past days have been filled with surprises.

Elena chuckled as she put down her baby to help her out of her dress "You like Davina?"

Alexandria nodded, looking up at her mother "Kind and pretty," she said before running to the edge of the pool where she slid her floaties through her arms and then jumped into the water to join her uncle.

Elena smiled looking at her daughter "Don't worry about her, she has a broad imagination and talks a lot, but she is really fond of you," her words made me smile. "You don't have to get in if you don't want to though."

I shook my head "I would actually love to go in the water."

She nodded "Then let's go on, gorgeous," Elena took her dress off to reveal her toned body; she has flowers tattooed on her right side and they're so bright and beautiful.

I took my flip-flops off and then the dress. It was hard not to cover my body as soon as it was out in the open, but Elena gave me a sense of tranquility. She took my hand and guided me into the pool "Do you know how to swim, darling?"

"I do," I nodded with a soft smile. "I learned when I was Alexandria's age."

"Auntie Davina!" Alexandria swam towards me and hugged my neck.

I smiled feeling her warmth "You're so cute."

"I know," her smile grew as she rested her head on my shoulder.

She has more confidence than I do, and it gives me this strange happiness like I just know she will be fine when she grows up. I know we are still strangers, but I've never been treated this nicely and I imagine I will get attached quite easily.

We spent a couple of hours in the pool. Swimming is one of the few things I know how to do so being in the water made me feel free. I played with Alexandria and she seemed to be having a great time and so was I. At some point, Dominico and Angelo got out of the pool to have breakfast in the outside dining area.

For a moment I forgot this isn't my family but it's hard to keep track of it when they seem so unfazed by my presence as if I belonged here.

"Davina," I heard Diavolo's voice; my gaze moved up, and there he stood at the edge of the pool, wearing a suit "Come to my office to have breakfast; we have things to discuss."

Before I could nod, Alexandria swam to the edge "Hi uncle," she waved and Diavolo squatted down to kiss her forehead. As they chatted, I took advantage of his distraction to step out of the water and grab a towel from a neatly folded pile. I dried myself off and threw the dress back on.

I walked to Diavolo and tapped his shoulder, he straightened up and turned around to look at me "Follow me," the man walked past me. We passed his brothers who showed me smiles so I waved in return "How long have you been up?" he asked as we made our way through the living room.

"I don't know," I whispered looking at my bare feet "a couple of hours, I think."

"Did Alexandria wake you up?" he asked.

I nodded "Yes, she said she wanted me to go swimming with her...I'm sorry if I did something wro–" I bumped into his chest as he suddenly turned around.

Diavolo pinched my chin and made me look at him "Watch where you're going; you can't look down all the time," he told before turning to the left to face a pair of double doors he unlocked with his fingerprint and a code.

"Take a seat, please," he said as he sat down behind his desk.

I nodded sitting across from him on a leather chair, which seemed to have been moved closer to his desk. The typed something on his phone and then opened a drawer from his big desk I couldn't stop admiring the room and how soft is yet it has a masculine touch. From the desk, he pulled out a folder and proceeded to open it.

"Did you enjoy dinner last night?" he asked, flipping through the papers.

I nodded "Yes, it was delicious."

Diavolo hummed in response "After we have breakfast I want you to get ready; we are going to the city."

I frowned in confusion "What city?"

"New York," he said with a sigh.

"O-okay" I stuttered, scratching my wrist.

When he finished reading the papers in front of him, someone knocked on the door and Diavolo pressed a button under his desk to open the door "Good morning Fran," he greeted the old man with a smile; he actually has a really nice smile.

"Diavolo," the old man said setting down the big tray between us with fruit bowls, glasses with juice, and plates with eggs. "How are you today, son?"

"Could be better," Diavolo replied. "You know how work has been giving me back aches."

The old man shook his head "I'll go make you your tea," and with that, he left the room.

"I want to talk to you about your past Davina," he stated.

A lump formed at the back of my throat "Wh-why?" I asked.

He rose an eyebrow before taking a sip of his coffee "You lied to me."

My heart started racing; how could he not hurt me after this? I will be punished.

"You said you didn't have a boyfriend," he handed me a paper from the folder "and it turns out you're in fact married to a man named Jack Powell."

The paper in my hands is tied to one of the saddest and most horrendous days of my life.
