They decided that Agate and CC would go around town to find Pickelhaube. They started by going to the Pancake Pad for lunch. It had a carpet that was red and green and a low ceiling, with lights hanging low, and the walls had wooden themed wall paper. They grabbed a seat and down.

"Wow. It reminds me of the IHOP restaurant from American television. They really committed to the aesthetic." CC said.

Agate looked at her funny. "What's television?"

She looked at him and stared in absolute shock. Did he really not know what television was? He laughed.

"I'm kidding! I know what those are by now. Its been a couple years since I got here, I know what that stuff is."

She sighed with relief. "What's been going on while I was in that coma?"

"...I've been taking care of Cinder, she's been doing great in school. She found a four leaf clover a few days ago. I helped her with a science project too."

"I'm guessing you got a normal job to cover the expenses?"

"Yeah. I work at a grocery store. So I do most of my crimefighting at night, or on my days off."

"So you have weekends off?" She asked, hoping that's what he meant.

"Yes."

"What about CC's training?"

"Well...I'm not the biggest fan of her being into crime fighting so young, so I'm only training her to control her powers on the weekends."

"I guess that's fair."

"Ja, but zat has nicht stopped mich from getting ein job here." said Pickelhaube, carrying two menus, and walking up to them.

"You work here?" Agate said, pleasantly surprised. This was not something he expected the broken accented Pickelhaube to be doing.

"Ja. I'm efficient, und Ich make more friends being a waiter."

"Look, we need your help. Soshi went off to the Aether and we need your help getting there." Agate said.

"Ich am nicht helping you. First, mein shift isn't over. Zweite, Ich stopped associating mit dich because being a civilian ist ein better life zan a vigilante. Ich am nicht helping to clean up after dein messes. Especially nicht Soshi." Pickelhaube replied.

"All we need is you to get us to the Aether. You don't have to accompany us in the Aether."

"Nein! Fix dein damn machine und help deinselves, Ich don't care what happens in ze Aether. It won't affect us here."

"You don't know that!" said CC, frustrated with his adamant refusal to help.

"Ich habe faith. Get out of here, or order somezing."

"Thanks for nothing, Pickelhaube! Just when people need you, you turn your back on them!"

"CC, calm down, let's just go before this argument gets heated. We can something to go somewhere else." He rubbed her shoulder to calm her down.

"Ugh, fine..." She walked out. Agate looked at Pickelhaube.
"Sorry about that. We didn't mean to cause a disturbance."

"Wasever. Just please leave." he replied. Agate sighed and gave him a tip, then followed CC out.
