"Kuroo-kun!" a girl called out to me as I was walking down the hallway.

"Oh hey, what's up, Sumiko-san?" I greeted the student council vice-president.

She has long straight black hair and pale skin.

"Thank you for lending me your notes," she handed me my notebook.

She's definitely a beauty.

"No problem," I tried to grab the notebook but she placed it in her other hand and stretched her hand out so I couldn't reach it.

But...

I brought my arm around her shoulder and grazed the book before she pulled it into her chest.

"Oh my, Kuroo-kun, at least ask me out first if you're going to touch me like this," she giggled.

Her personality is shit.

"Come on, I need that for my class," I gave her an annoyed smile.

"I'll give it to you if-"

"You know what, just leave it in my shoe locker when you're done with it," I told her, removing my arm from her shoulder. "You already know which one that is, right?"

She stopped and stared at me with a bright smile, "of course!"

I waved to her goodbye and headed to class.

On my way to class, I kept on getting stopped to do errands. First, I helped Saori carry some books to the library, then I helped Risa arrange some chairs in the art room.

It was an eventful morning and I soon became exhausted.

I walked into homeroom and saw Sakurai playing on her phone. My exhaustion was instantly relieved once I saw her.

"Good morning, Sakurai-san!" I greeted her happily.

She continued to play with her phone, not answering back.

It felt like I was talking to Kenma, except he would acknowledge me somewhat.

"Hmm, something wrong?" I asked while sitting down in my seat.

I looked at her but she lifted her phone to her face, hiding the obvious scowl on her face.

Did something happen?

I slouched in my seat, my head resting in my palm.

Today sucks.

As per Yamamoto-sensei's lesson plan, Yaku and I taught our respective teams how to receive the volleyball.

I split my team into two groups and we rallied for the rest of the period, each member switching out with someone from the sidelines every time they managed to receive the ball.

I yawned as I watched my team missing almost every receive.

My eyes drifted off to Yaku's team. They were doing decently well.

Huh? Wasn't Sakurai standing in that same spot 5 minutes ago?

I watched as Sakurai struggled to receive a ball that bounced off the tip of her hand.

Heh, she's not athletic at all.

"Kuroo-san! Watch out!"

I snapped out of my thoughts just as a volleyball pummeled into my stomach.

"Geh," I clutched my stomach.

This is what I get for not paying attention.

"Oh my gosh! Kuroo-san! Are you okay?" Miho ran over to me, a few other girls followed suit.

I raised my arm and waved them off.

"I'm...fine. Go back to practice," I told them.

I raised my face and caught sight of Yaku's hands on Sakurai's shoulders. They were the only ones on the court.

A one-on-one session?

I dragged my feet to the bench nearby. A bitter taste lingered in my mouth.

Today really sucks.

I watched my team rally. I was bored out of my mind.

"What was that!"

Someone yelled from the other side of the court. The students started cheering as they crowded around Sakurai and Yaku.

What just happened?

Even my teammates stopped rallying to watch what was going on on the other court.

They seemed to be asking Sakurai questions because of how flustered and beet red her face was.

A small smile tugged at my lips.

How adorable.

My eyes twitched. I could feel Sumiko and her friend staring at me from the gym door.

We were practicing our spikes. Every time I spiked, I could hear the two girls squeal a little bit. Their squeals sent shivers down my spine.

It's creepy being watched so intently like this.

It got to a point where I started doing feints every time Kenma tossed me the ball.

"We're supposed to be doing spiking drills!" Coach Naoi yelled at me.

"Is something wrong?" Kai asked.

"It's nothing," I quickly responded, trying to ignore the two girls.

"Something is off about Kuroo, let's have a break?" I heard Coach Naoi suggested to Coach Nekomata.

No, anything but that!

Coach Nekomata whistled, garnering everyone's attention.

"Let's take a break!" he told us.

"Yes sir!" the players responded.

I heard the light footsteps of the girls running over.

Ugh...

"Kuroo-kun!" Sumiko's voice called out.

"Your spikes looked great!" her friend complimented me.

"Thanks," I smiled, wiping off the sweat on my neck with a towel.

My teammates started to crowd around us.

"Is that your girlfriend?" Lev hollered.

"What! She's here?!" Yamamoto shouted, trying to get a good look at Sumiko's face.

"No way! It's Snow White!"

"Isn't that the student council vice-president?"

The other players surrounded her trying to catch a glimpse of her.

Sumiko started blushing from all the attention.

"Girlfriend?" she whispered, a smile plastered on her face.

"I...umm...H-here is your notebook, as promised," she handed me my notebook.

My eyes narrowed down on her. Her actions seemed so calculated.

I thanked her coldly as I grabbed the book from her hands.

Her eyes met mine, then she averted her eyes, the blush on her face deepening.

"I thought I said you can leave it in my locker?" I told her, trying to fake a smile.

"I wanted to see you," she timidly admitted.

"Woo!" my teammates whistled.

"It's not like that," I started to explain.

Ugh, this is annoying.

Right above their heads, I noticed Kenma talking to someone. The person turned away, slightly revealing their face.

"Aya?" I called out.

She stopped and turned around.

It IS her!

My face instantly brightened.

"Uhh, excuse me," I pushed Sumiko and her friend aside and cut through my team members.

I jogged to her, rubbing my neck.

Why am I acting so giddy all of a sudden. Play it cool, play it cool.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to calm down.

"Here," she shoved something into my chest, her face was turned the other way.

Is something wrong?

I looked down at the book she handed to me. It was the manga I let her borrow. When I looked up, she had already exited the gym and I followed after her.

"Hold on! Where are you going?" I ran beside her. "How did you like the manga? It's good, right?"

No response.

"Aya," I grabbed her wrist and jerked her towards me, forcing her to look at me.

"I...liked it..." she reluctantly confessed.

I couldn't help but smile at how cute she looked.

"Wait right here!" I commanded.

I ran to the gym, looking back to make sure she stayed in place. I smiled when I saw her standing still.

When I got back to the gym, the boys were still pestering the two girls.

"Kuroo-kun!" Sumiko shouted, breaking free from their barrier. "Where did you go? What took you so long?"

She smiled sweetly at me as she pondered my disappearance.

I grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the corner of the gym, trying to reciprocate the same smile.

"Did you have something to say to me, Kuroo-kun?" she asked innocently, but she already had a theory as to why I pulled her aside.

I let go of her hand.

With one hand, which was still holding the manga, on my hip, and the other massaging the knot behind my neck, I let out a small groan.

How do I word this without hurting her feelings?

"I like you, Kuroo-kun," she confessed, breaking the silence.

She smiled confidently at me.

"I...uhh..." I stuttered, it was much harder turning down a girl when she's already smiling so confidently.

"I know you feel the same way about me, so no need to be shy," she incited, her head tilted to the side, revealing a foul grin.

This was her true nature.

"I don't," I denied sternly.

She took a step closer to me. I stood still, staring at her with resolute eyes.

She lifted a hand and gently rubbed my arm, her fingers felt like needles on my skin.

"You don't have to deny it," she persisted.

Her other hand is now running down my other arm, making its way down to my free hand.

In a flash of anger, I subconsciously jolted my hand back then grabbed her by the wrist. I raised her wrist to eye level as I glared down at her.

"Oh my, Kuroo-kun, you're so rough with me," she continued with her delusion.

Her gross display of affection sickened me.

"I said, I don't like you," I reiterated through clenched teeth.

Realizing what I had done, I released her hand. She hunched over and rubbed her wrist, her eyes had gone dark.

"It's that one girl, huh?" she spat, "I'll make sure you regret this."

She recomposed herself and smiled that fake bright smile at me and left the gym.

"Sumiko-chan! Wait for me!" her friend cried out, going after her.

I let out a huge sigh and walked back to my belongings.

"What was that all about?" Kai asked, but I ignored him.

I noticed that Sumiko left my notebook on top of my jacket. I let out another sigh and threw down the book I was holding on top of it.

I looked down on the book and realized it was the manga Aya returned to me. I forgot I had made her wait outside because I wanted to lend her the second volume.

CRAP.

I dug through my stuff to find the other manga I had brought.

"Break's over! Gather around you lot!" Coach Naoi herded the players like sheep.

Found it!

I lifted the manga into the air.

"Kuroo, get over here," Yaku harshly whispered.

"Can we extend the break for another five minutes? I need to use the restroom," I nervously laughed, hoping they'd buy my excuse.

Coach Naoi sighed, "Fine, but be quick."

"Thank you!" I cried back already running out of the gym.

Aya was nowhere to be seen outside.

Did she leave?

I ran passed the school's entrance and looked in all directions but she wasn't there.

I pulled up her contact on my cell phone and called her.

RINGG RINGG

RINGG RINGG

RINGG RINGG

"Hello?" she answered softly.

"Where did you go?" I asked, sweat trickling down my face.

"I'm heading to Hikarigaoka Station," she replied coldly.

"Stay...right there!" I ordered, sprinting in that direction.

I hope she waits for me.

I hope she didn't leave yet.

The station was only two blocks away so there was only one route she could have gone on.

Soon, the light brunette haired girl came into view. She was leaning against a vending machine with her arms crossed, obviously annoyed.

I didn't care if she was mad at me, she actually waited! I couldn't help but smile. My face started to have a prickly sensation, possibly from running like a madman or possibly because Aya also looks cute when she's angry.

Once I caught up to her, I hunched over with my hands on my knees, panting like crazy, "you actually...stayed."

Without looking up, I handed her the manga with one hand, "here."

She accepted the manga without a word.

"Sorry...you had to wait...so long," I apologized, standing straight.

I smiled at her. For a moment, I thought I saw her face turn red but she quickly covered her face with the manga; her eyes were looking elsewhere.

"I didn't wait that long," Aya mumbled.

"That's good," I sighed in relief. "I have to go back to practice, they were already scolding me when I ran out."

I stopped after a few feet and turned to her.

"I'll see you again tomorrow to let you borrow volume 3!" I yelled out and winked at her.

This time, for sure, she blushed.

I ran back to school with an idiotic smile on my face.

Today wasn't so bad...

I really do like her though, huh?
