You're turning heads when you walk through the door
Don't need make-up to cover up
Being the way that you are is enough"
What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction

oOoOo

I wake up around 8 o'clock the next morning as I hear arguing in the kitchen. Carefully rubbing my eyes, I climb out of bed and slip on my robe. I walk towards the kitchen to see what the commotion is.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I hear Marc whisper not so quietly as I near the kitchen, "You're supposed to scramble the eggs, not let them sit there and burn in the pan!"

"Well, sorry. I thought scrambled referred to mixing the eggs in the bowl! How was I supposed to know?" Blair huffs.

I walk in the room and see Marc waving a forkful of charred eggs in Blair's face. She reaches out to grab them and stuffs them down his shirt, starting a mini food fight. Why are they making such a mess when I have a class in an hour?

I awkwardly cough to get their attention. They both freeze.

"Hey. Don't mind me. You can continue with your food fight for all I care," I tease.

They promptly resume their fight. I sit back and observe as Marc whacks Blair with a spatula. She frantically grabs a raw egg from the countertop and throws it at him. The egg cracks and explodes in the center of Marc's face. He slowly wipes it off with his free hand. Suddenly, he throws an egg at Blair and she screeches as it cracks on her eyes. I grab a banana and go walk to the spare room to see if Grace is still here.

Knocking on the guest room door, I elicit no response, so I enter. Grace is still passed out. I gently shake her awake and she sleepily groans.

"Good morning," I say softly.

She groans and rubs her sunken eyes. "Ugh, I have the worst hangover," she whines.

"I bet you do," I laugh. "Let's go get you something to eat."

When we get to the messy kitchen, I open a cabinet to get a glass of water for Grace. I also pop two pieces of bread in the toaster for her. Blair and Marc are nowhere to be seen, but their mess is still here. I begin cleaning the skillet with charred eggs in the sink.

"How did I get here?" She asks, just realizing she isn't in her apartment.

"You forgot your keys and were super drunk last night. We thought it was best to let you stay here." I say, scrubbing the skillet.

"Oh, thanks for that," she graciously replies. "What happened in here?" she asks, waving her arm around.

"Oh, you know, just an average Thursday morning food fight between Marc and Blair," I say dryly.

"You have a nice place, by the way. I've wanted to see the inside of the penthouse since I moved in here."

"Thanks. I think it's a little too extravagant for a college apartment, but my parents insisted on it."

"I know how you feel," she replies with an eye roll. "I would much rather stay in the dorms, but my father wanted to rent me an apartment instead."

The toaster dings and I reach for a plate to place the toast on. I hand the plate to her.

When Grace finishes eating, I lead her into my room so she can borrow some clean clothes. I sort through my closet to give her a Nike hoodie and a pair of leggings.

"We seem to be about the same size, so these should fit." I hand the clothes to her.

She accepts them and goes into my bathroom to get changed. I hastily scramble around my room to hide some of the pictures I have displayed. I can't have her seeing pictures of me with a tiara and princess gowns on. I quickly shove all of the picture frames under my bed and go back into the closet to pick out my outfit. Once I get changed, I sit down at my vanity to do some makeup and quickly straighten my hair.

"Do you need a ride to campus today?" I ask her as I carefully apply mascara.

"Nah, I don't have to go in until ten. I need to talk to the landlord anyway to get back into my apartment."

"Okay, just let me know if you need anything. You can hang out here with Marc for however long you need to."

oOoOo

Forty minutes later, Blair and I arrive on campus, just as my history class is about to start. I hop out of the car and start sprinting towards the building. The prof said he has zero tolerance for tardiness and I can't be late on the second day.

I slow down as I reach the classroom to catch my breath. Checking my phone, I made it here with two minutes to spare.

Entering the classroom, I look around for an empty seat. Since I'm here on the later side, most of the seats are taken. Kaden catches my eye from the back and tilts his head towards the seat next to him. He is sitting near some guys I vaguely recognize from the party last night. They all look very hungover.

"Hey," I cordially greet, taking a seat between Kaden and a blond guy.

"Are you French?" the overly confident guy on Kaden's right asks me. "Because Eiffel for you."

"No, I'm actually Amarian," I quip.

"Back off dude," Kaden scolds. "Look who's almost late today," he gently teases me, turning in my direction.

"Oh shut up. Thanks for saving me a seat."

"No problem, sweetheart."

"So Kade, aren't you going to introduce me to your hot friend?" The same guy says while blatantly checking me out. It's making me uncomfortable.

"I was getting there, but you had to start flirting," he huffs. "This is Kate."

I awkwardly wave.

The blond next to me introduces himself as James.

"So, Kate," the guy on Kaden's other side says. "How'd you meet Kade?" He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively at me.

"We met at The Brew last week," I reply curtly as I take out my pencil and history notebook.

He nods. I see him glance slyly at Kaden then smirk. He reaches for my notebook and scribbles his phone number down and passes it back to me.

"Call me," he says with a conspiratorial wink.

Professor Rawlings walks in and starts class before he can harass me further. "Happy Thursday, class. Please go to the class Canvas page to open up today's work."

"Don't mind Chase," Kaden whispers to me as I pull up the documents. "He flirts with anything that has two legs and a vagina." He starts laughing at his own joke.

I softly laugh as I feel my face flush.

We listen to the lecture in relative silence. About halfway through the class, I notice Chase has fallen asleep. I nudge Kaden. He smirks and asks me to trade seats with him.

I raise my eyebrows in question. He doesn't provide an answer, so I reluctantly get up. Kaden quickly sits in my seat and pulls out a black sharpie. He carefully draws a sloppy mustache on Chase's face. It looks like a five-year-old drew it.

"Real mature," I drawl sarcastically. Mental note: never fall asleep near Kaden.

He smirks and motions to switch seats again. James takes a quick picture of Chase and high fives Kaden.

Class ends soon and Chase is still asleep. I say bye to James and Kaden before walking out of the room. Blair is standing right by the door on her phone.

We exit the building and head to where our Intro to Politics class is. Class passes by slowly. The prof lectures about the various types of government and briefly reviews the United States Government.

After class is over, we meet up with Marc so Blair can get to the rest of her classes.

Thankfully, English passes by faster than Intro to Politics. In calc, I keep an eye out for Grace. She walks in just as class starts and plops down into the seat next to me. She still looks exhausted.

"Did everything work out with your apartment?" I ask her.

"Yeah, the landlord let me in. He gave me the key the office has so I can make copies."

"That's good."

"So are you going to rush for a sorority? It's this weekend," Grace asks.

"Eh, I don't think so."

"C'mon it'll be fun!" She begs with puppy dog eyes.

"I'm going to take this semester slow and get adjusted to life in a new city. Maybe next year," I say, with no intention of rushing next year. I already have a lot on my plate with my Royal duties and school; I just won't have time. Grace doesn't have to know that, though.

"Wanna come over for a girls' night with me and Blair on Saturday?" I ask her to change the subject.

"Yeah, sure. Just text me the details."

Our conversation dissolves as the prof starts going over derivatives.

oOoOo

An hour later, class is over Marc and I head to The Brew for a cup of coffee. We walk inside the bustling shop and wait in line.

We reach the front and both place our orders. I head to the pickup counter to get our drinks as our names are called. I grab the drinks and turn around to sit with Marc.

"Kate, wait!" I hear my name being called.

I turn back around and see Kaden.

"Oh, hey! I didn't know you were working today."

"Well you didn't tell me you were coming in today," he says suavely.

"Yeah, I'm just here with Marc to get a coffee and study," I respond, gesturing to Marc. Something unreadable flashes through his eyes.

"Oh, well, I'll let you guys get to it."

I smile and go sit down next to Marc.

"Que voulait le garçon amoureux?" he teases as I hand him his iced coffee. (Translation: what did loverboy want?)

"Oh ferme la," I blush. (Translation: Oh shut up).

"Eh bien ... j'attends," he implores (Translation: Well... I'm waiting).

"Pas grand chose. il vient de dire bonjour." (Translation: Nothing much. He just said hi).

"Mmhm," he hums, taking a sip. I scowl at him.

I take out my notebooks, and we start studying for our English exam next week. Like always, Marc gets distracted and starts looking up corny grammar jokes.

"Knock knock."

"Who's there?" I sigh.

"To."

"To who?"

"To whom, you dumbass."

"Ha ha, very funny," I say sarcastically.

"Yes, yes it was," he says seriously, ignoring the sarcasm. "Okay, here's another one. This is good," he laughs.

"I used to date an English teacher. She broke up with me. Know why?"

"No, why did she?" I humor him.

"She didn't like my improper use of the colon," he laughs hysterically, drawing the attention of a bunch of people.

I snicker quietly. Something tells me he would be good friends with Chase from my history class.

My phone starts ringing. It's Maeve. I decline the call and shoot her a text saying I'll call her back.

"That was Maeve. She wants to talk. Can we get going now?"

"Yeah, sure," he replies, picking up his computer and notebook. Marc places his hand on my back as he escorts me out of the café.

oOoOo

When we get back to the penthouse, I call Maeve back. She promptly answers.

"Hey, sorry I couldn't pick up earlier. Marc and I were in a coffee shop," I explain, plopping down on the living room couch. I take my computer out of my bag and login to my personal email account. I have a bunch of unread emails I have neglected these past few days.

"That's alright. I just wanted to check-in. How are things going?"

"It's going great! My classes seem to be just the right difficulty."

"That's good to hear. Have you made any friends yet?"

"Yeah, one of my neighbors, Grace, is actually in one of my classes. She's really nice. I think you would like her. There's also Kaden. We met at the coffee shop I was just at through Grace. They've known each other their whole lives. He's one year older than me, though. He's in my history class."

"You seem infatuated with Kaden..." she trails off suggestively.

"What? What makes you think that?" I scoff, balancing my phone between my ear and shoulder as I reach for my planner.

"Well you just talked about him for a few minutes," she laughs. "So is he cute?"

"Well, um, yeah," I stammer.

"Has anyone recognized you?"

"Thankfully, no. I'm hoping it stays that way."

"We also went to a party last night," I tell her. I recap most of the events to her, excluding the part where I overheard those girls gossiping.

"That sounds like fun! I'm trying to get mother and father to let me visit you soon! You should definitely bring me to one of these parties. I want to meet Kaden too."

"Mhmm," I hum noncommittally as I open emails. I see one that's flagged as important from Juliet. I skim it as Maeve prattles on about the tea party she attended earlier this week. I notice something about the potential marriage to Prince Alexander.

"Hey, can I call you back? Something came back," I interrupt her.

"Yeah, sure. It was nice talking to you."

Rereading the email carefully, I see my parents are scheduled for an online meeting with the Queen and King of Denmark on Saturday morning. Apparently, they are traveling and couldn't make it to Amaria for an in-person meeting. My presence along with Alexander's has been requested. This can't be good...

I quickly respond to Juliet and save the link to the event that she added to my calendar.

For the next hour or so, I look over more emails. There's one informing me of the charity event I'll be attending in New York City in mid-December. I need to attend another online meeting with the palace staff for that on Saturday too.

I continue working until Blair informs me that dinner is ready. Marc prepared spaghetti and meatballs and a garden salad for the three of us. Gathering around the kitchen table, we dig in.

After dinner, I complete my homework and get ahead on some assignments. Around midnight, I get into bed and fall asleep.
