One month later (Epilogue pt. 1)
I rang the doorbell. Mia was the one to open the door and greet us. "Hey! I'm so glad you two could make it." She gave ths both of us a hug, before motioning us inside.

We followed her out into the backyard where everyone was already waiting. Niccolo stood in front of the grill cooking all kinds of Italian favorites, while Autumn helped Valeria bring out the sides from in the kitchen.

Marcellius was playing Marco Polo with a few of the kids in the pool, while others chased each other around.

I looked over at Evelyn, who was trying to get Cesare to stay off his feet. Despite his gunshot wounds having healed, doctor's say it's going to be a while before he's back to where he used to be.

"Stop being so stubborn," I heard her say. "You need to take it easy and give your body time to heal."

"But I feel fine, amore(love)," he groaned with a pout.

I looked away to see Miko and his wife Ebony approaching us. Miko was looking more and more like his father everyday, while Ebony was having a harder time walking with their first child being due any day now.

"Zia(Aunt) Roe!"

I stood on the tips of my toes and ruffled his hair. "Nipotino(little nephew)."

He glowered down at me. "You know I'm older than you, right?"

"That's because your daddy couldn't keep it in his pants," I commented with a laugh.

"Neither could yours," he joked, pinching my cheeks.

"Ha, ha, very funny," I replied dryly, before giving him a big shove into the pool.

Everyone burst into laughter, his cousins tackling him like Sharks the second they spot their prey.

"How are you and bambino Fierri(baby Fierri)?" I asked, hugging Ebony.

"Great!" She says with a smile. "I'm just ready for him to come out already. I want to see my feet again."

"The birthday girl is here and ready to par-tay!" We all turned at the sound of Javier shouting like a frat boy as he walked out with Mama Fierri on his arm.

It was her birthday today. She just turned seventy-five years old, which didn't seem right considering how much younger she looked in age.

"Buon compleanno(Happy birthday) Mama Fierri!" We all shouted simultaneously.

Once Niccolo had finished grilling the grigliata mista, Luca said prayer and we all dug in.

And after filling our stomachs with traditional Italian foods, Gelato, and alcohol for some of us, we headed back inside for some cake. We sang happy birthday to Mama Fierri in Italian and cut everyone a piece of cake.

Autumn offered me a piece, but I couldn't eat another bite. I was so full that I felt like I was going to burst out of my jeans.

I shared a look with Valeria and turned to Lorenzo, who was sitting beside me scarfing down his piece of chocolate cake. "I'll be right back."

He nodded, focused on his dessert. Rolling my eyes and chuckling, I joined Valeria and we locked ourselves into the nearest bathroom.

She grabbed the box from the mirror cabinet and handed it to me. "You ready?"

"No. But my period's late and I need to know."

"Do you want me to wait outside?"

I shook my head, my heart thumping in my chest. I swallowed the bile threatening to surface, my mind racing with all kinds of thoughts both good and bad.

Lorenzo and I had planned to wait. We weren't ready for kids just yet. At least I wasn't.

Pulling both sticks out of the box, I lifted up the toilet seat and peed on the first stick, then the second.

Flushing the toilet and washing my hands, I flipped both tests over and Valeria set a a three minute timer on her phone.

"Thank you for being here with me."

She flashed me a small smile. "Of course."

When I told Valeria that my period was late and I was thinking about taking a test, I knew I could trust her to be there for me.

"What made you decide to have Luna knowing what you've been through with your ex-husband and losing my brother?"

"Having the support of family, especially from Cesare. He's an amazing uncle, and an even more amazing father." She looked down at her fingers. "And truthfully, I don't know that I would have kept her if it wasn't for them." She looked back up at me. "Just know that you are really lucky to have Enzo by your side."

I'm moreso blessed than lucky. I could've ended up in a similar situation to Valeria. We were both in marriages we didn't want. It just so happened that my husband changed his ways, whereas Valeria's husband did not.

"I'm glad you and Luci were able to reunite before he died. He's very lucky to have you in his life."

She chuckled. "Believe me, I'm the lucky one."

I grew tense at the sudden sound of the timer going off. Valeria turned off the timer and eyed the two tests waiting to reveal what could possibly change me and Lorenzo's life forever.

"On the count of three, I'll flip them over." I nodded. "Okay. One... two... three!"

She flipped both tests over and we looked down to see whether there was a little blue plus or negative sign.

Shit.

"I'm pregnant."

****

"You okay?" Lorenzo asked when I returned to my seat.

"Mhm, yeah," I murmured, chewing on my lip nervously.

"You sure?"

"Positive."

Fuck, why did I say that?

His concerned gaze lingered on me a moment longer until Marcellius and Mia, Niccolo and Autumn, Cesare and Evelyn, and Miko and Ebony joined us in the lounge area.

"I'm so exhausted," Autumn said with a sigh, sitting down on my brother's lap. "We still have four more birthday parties to throw this month alone."

"That's because this family is too damn fertile," Cesare added.

"Says the one who had twins," Miko commented, resulting in a scowl from his uncle.

My heart dropped when Luca came running in with one of my pregnancy test in his hands. "Look daddy, it's a thermometer."

I looked down at my purse, seeing the other positive test. It must've fell out or something.

Cesare hopped up, realizing what it was. He quickly snatched the test away before Luca could put it in his mouth. "That's not a thermometer figlio(son). Now go finish playing outside with everyone else."

The little six year old scampered off, no idea what he just found. My chest tightened, because I knew that I was going to have to come clean.

I was hoping to wait until we got home to tell Lorenzo. But it's looking like I don't have much of a choice now.

"Am I going to be a daddy again?" Cesare asked his wife, his face lighting up like a child on Christmas.

"No, it's not mine." He frowned, his blue eyes filled with disappointment. Turning to Niccolo and Autumn, his frown turned into a smile.

"Hell no!" They both said in unison.

So he turned his attention to Marcellius and Mia next. "It can't be Ebony's because she's already pregnant. So is there something you two want to tell us?"

"It's not mine," Mia said. "Not only are we old as hell, but Marcel got a vasectomy after we had Christiano. So no more kids for us."

I froze when all eyes landed on us. Too overwhelmed by the pressure, I just blurted out the truth. "Okay, it's mine!"

I could feel Lorenzo looking at me. Which made me more nervous, so I ended up revealing more information than necessary. "If it wasn't for Enzo's horny ass wanting to fuck me on the counter of our new home, knowing we didn't have any condoms then-"

Lorenzo's hand shot out to cover my mouth before I could embarrass us any further. "Stop. Talking," he pleaded. I nodded and he removed his hand.

All of my brothers just stared in silence, Cesare handing me the test, while my sister in-laws and niece congratulated me.

When they were done, they could tell from the expression on Lorenzo's face that he was just as surprised as everyone else, so they rejoined Mama Fierri and the others outside to give us some privacy to talk.

"Enzo, I-"

He embraced me with a hug and kissed the top of my head. "I know you're scared, as am I. So if you don't want to do this, that's okay because I'm still going to love you."

"But I want to."

He pulled back, looking down at me. "What? Are you sure?"

"I know we're young and we were planning to wait, but Val made me realize that life is too short. Besides, this will be our choice. Not Giovanni and Vincenzo's, but ours."

He placed his hand on my stomach and smiled. "Our legacy."

"Exactly," I replied, kissing him passionately. "Now let's go tell Mama Fierri and Javi, before the rest of our family spoils the surprise."
