~Dorothy Sawdon~

Jordan drove me to school the next morning. She had questions, a bunch of them about how I had gotten Rachel Jones to agree to drive me somewhere without sleeping with her but after my spree of convinient lies, she began to tell me about how dumb Jake was being.

She had threatened to stab him with a broken wine bottle and he said he'd call the police and that she was crazy. I agreed with him but I wouldn't tell her that. She seemed to think she was sane.

"He said he'd never speak to me again, can you believe it?" she exclaimed speeding past an angry man in a truck. He yelled a profanity at her and she showed him the middle finger through the car window. I sunk down into my seat.

"Jordan, maybe you and Jake should end this finally" I advice to which she nodded, "This is getting toxic and dangerous."

"You now what you're right" she sighed, keeping her eyes on the road as she drove, "He's getting boring anyway".

I agreed with her, only to get her to end this stupid relationship. We arrived at the school early, making our way out of the car and walking together to our lockers. I caught sight of Rachel, standing there and locking lips with Tora Lesley, the most arrogantly confident peice of blue-haired ass, roaming each other's bodies freely as they did so.

I tore my eyes away, feeling a strong pang in my chest for some reason. Jordan noticed them but not my reaction, shaking her head in distaste.

"Can someone explain what Rachel even sees in that smurf looking freckle face?" she said with a roll of her blue eyes, grimacing slightly when she saw Tora reach her hand up Rachel's shirt.

"Let's just get to class" my voice was raspy as I said that, slamming my locker closed and trudging away angrily. No, Rachel did not return home last night and no, she did not call. She just stayed out and came to school dressed in the same clothes she left yesterday with. I tried not to imagine about where she had spent the night yesterday.

Jordan and I both had English first period on Mondays so that was were we headed. It occurred to me that Rachel also had this first period on Mondays. I forced myself not to groan out loud.

But she didn't show up.

We sat at our regular seats on the fourth row, far enough from the teacher but not at the complete back. It kind of represented our social standing at school also: Not necessarily popular but known and just right. Actually, we were known to most as 'that blue-eyed lesbian and her crazy friend'.

It was accurate and it didn't bother us so we let it stick, just living our lives at school without gaining any unnecessary attention. I got a few waves and some girls flirted with me but that was it. Unlike Rachel who everyone knew and wanted to sleep with.

She also had no friends except her best one, the captain of the school's lacrosse team and school golden boy: Ryan Smith. They seemed to have been friends for years. I wondered if she had told him about everything... About me and us living together. I hoped not and that even if she did, she told him to keep quiet about it.

The teacher entered the class in a little while, collecting our assignments and then beginning to rant on about types of clauses and phrases. I scribbled down notes for later while Jordan typed away at her phone, making me promise to give her my notes to copy when I was done.

The class went on relatively normally except the unusual amount of times my mind wandered back to the thought of Rachel. I tried to push her out of my mind but she stayed, her dimpled smile and bright eyes appearing to me whenever I closed my eyes. I thought I was loosing my mind.

When the class ended, Jordan and I were among the last to leave, allowing most people to leave first before exiting ourselves.

I had my next class alone so I waved goodbye to Jordan, still trying to ignore the sinking feeling in my chest. I walked over to geology class on my own, keeping my head down as I did so.

On my way, I caught sight of Ryan who secured my suspicions about Rachel telling him by waving at me, beaming. His friends looked my way but just shrugged me off going back to their chatter. I nodded in his direction then walked away.

The rest of school went uneventfully until the very end when Jordan and I were walking to her car, since she offered to give me a ride earlier.

We were in the parking lot when Ryan caught sight of us, yelling me over while also running toward me. I didn't look at Jordan but I could tell her jaw was on the floor as Ryan made his way over to us, jogging lightly but reaching us quickly nonetheless.

"Hey, Dorothy, right?" he asked. I wondered if Rachel had told him my name. That would mean she actually did know it.

"Uhm...Yeah?" I was skeptical about what he wanted to talk to me about because I usually didn't speak with anyone except Jordan and people I happened to have to talk to like group project partners. Definitely no star highshchool footballers.

He smiled widely, "Rachel-"

I interrupted him with a cough, subtly jutting my head at Jordan so she wouldn't be able to see me. He had a look of recognition on his face then mouthed a "sorry".

"Let me drive you home" he said. I contemplated it, furrowing my brows as it thought. There was almost a 0% chance he wanted to kidnap me and a similarly small percentage that his car smelt like a bunch of crackheads had an orgy in it. I wish I was kidding.

"Sure" I shrugged, giving a gaping Jordan one small wave before following Ryan to his red mustang. We got in and he revved the engine on, pulling out of the school drive way before he began to talk. I was right about his car smelling nothing like Jordan's.

"So, Rachel told me you were rooming together" he said, smile not faltering. "All the details".

I wanted to groan but I held in in, nodding. "I'm just unlucky like that"

He laughed, "Most girls would consider being roommates with Rachel lucky".

I mentally rolled my eyes, "I'm not sure having to pay a thousand dollars for the repairs is luck".

He nodded, "Yeah"

I was still wondering what exactly he wanted to say to me but what he said next answered my silent question.

"She's a bit of a handful, yes but I promise it's worth it when you get to know her" he said with a smile, eyes on the road, "She actually told me not to talk to you at all this morning"

I chuckled.

"But just expect a whole lot turmoil coming with her. She has got a share of problems only people who really care about her can put up with" he said. I hadn't known there was this much depth about Rachel.

She only seemed like the obnoxious kind of playgirl who was a jerk to everyone and wore leather jackets. But of course, she had to have a story behind living alone and fucking anything that walks.

"Just thought I'd give you heads up" he said, pulling up to our apartment building, quicker than I would have known we were in the car. He gave me one last smile before unlocking the car. I took my bag and stepped out of the car, giving a small wave before walking up to the entrance of the place. Rachel pulled in just then, looking between the car and me and then face-palming.

She rolled her eyes, taking off her helmet and getting down from her parked motorcycle.

She headed toward Ryan but he began pulling out, giving me a wave before driving off and leaving us both in the compound, her shaking her head at the back veiw of his car while I headed up to the apartment. Rachel followed closely behind me.

I walked faster, remembering that she was locking lips with some random girl this morning and for some reason angry at her for said reason.

When I got upstairs, I left the door open but then stormed to my room and slammed that door. I rested my back against it, running my fingers through my hair with a sigh.

What am I doing?
