Delilah

I had been a nervous wreck all week waiting for Saturday to roll around. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect for my impending date with Rocky. I'd never been on a date before, so I didn't know what to wear, or what to do. Therefore, I had gotten with Reese and told him about my predicament.

He was sitting on my bed after we had completely destroyed my closet trying to find an outfit to wear, but everything I had shown him he chastised as saying it was too pink, or too childish.

It was severely annoying

"Reese." I deadpanned, "I'm going cry if you don't start actually being helpful." I told him, and his face fell.

"I'm sorry!" He threw his hands up in surrender, "I'm helping as much as I can, you just don't have much to work with here." He pointed at my pile of discarded clothes.

"Yeah, because I don't typically go on dates." I snarked back, and dramatically fell backward on the bed. He got off my bed, and started digging around on the pile on the floor again.

"You already rejected those." I reminded him, and he laughed, "Well, guess we're gonna have to go through them again since you don't have shit." He teased, and I threw a pillow at his head.

I ended up just picking a short pink dress with long sheer sleeves. Reese said it was too girlish at first, but then I reminded him I was in fact a girl, and he figured it was fine. Then I added the pearl earrings Rocky had given me, with white platform heels that had a dainty buckle around the ankle.

The minute I showed Reese the beautiful earrings the literal Don gifted me, he flipped his lid in excitement. I didn't have much time to gush over the earrings, as I heard a ding from my phone, and saw an unknown number had texted me,

6:56 here

I had an strong inclination as to who it was, and I texted him letting him know he could come in. I finished brushing out my curls into waves, and I heard a firm knock on the front door.

My dad wasn't home, and I made sure Reese stayed in my bedroom, instructing him that he could leave after I did. I walked down the stairs, and opened the front door, and saw a very handsome Rocky standing in the doorway, dressed in an all black outfit, holding a bouquet of flowers wrapped in brown wrapping paper.

Oh be still my beating heart

He walked in and gave me a once over. I felt slightly self conscious at his burning stare, until he handed me the beautiful flowers.

I smiled at his gesture. "Thank you very much, this was a very thoughtful gift." I told him, and he stepped closer to me. He took my hand, and I could tell he was examining my dress, "Beautiful." He told me, and I felt my cheeks burn as I took in his compliment.

I went to tell him he looked very handsome himself, but I heard Janet entered the room. Oh boy.

Now typically, she wasn't a distraction. But Janet did not like men. She used to try and bite Reese when he came over, she was better about him now, but I had never let a strange man near her before, so I was curious about how she's react.

I picked her up and held her in my arms. "This is Janet Furter. My daughter." I giggled, as I introduced the two, and he just stared at her.

"I don't like animals." He said after a moment, and it was like Janet knew what he was saying. She started yapping because she couldn't bark, and squirmed around in my arms.

"Feral girl," I scolded, as I went to place her into her pin. "Usually she's lovely." I promised, "She just isn't fond of men."

I didn't like leaving her in a crate, and she was so tiny most of the time she just slipped out, so I got her a kids play pin and let her in there so she didn't tear the house up. When I placed her down, Rocky stepped toward me. He placed his strong hand on my jaw, and took the pad of his thumb running it over the top of my cheekbone, seemingly admiring me.

I nestled into his palm, and his eyes fell from mine, and down onto my lips. His mouth moved closer to mine, and he placed a soft kiss on the corner of my mouth. I was preparing myself for his lips to touch mine next, as my anxiety pinged.

But before we could touch lips, we had a slight interruption, aka Reese falling very loudly and violently down the stairs.

Rocky pulled back quickly, looking over his shoulder to see a very red, very embarrassed Reese trying to pick himself off the floor. I cringed as I watched Reese laugh nervously, before darting back up the stairs.

What a freaking moron, I snorted.

Rocky didn't say anything the whole time, just watched Reese all the way back up the stairs. I felt the second hand embarrassment hardcore, and he turned back to look at me, "A friend?" He confirmed.

I laughed nervously, playing with the ends of my hair, "Yeah, he's my best friend. He was helping me get ready, but wasn't supposed to leave until after we left." I emphasize the word 'after', knowing Reese's was probably still listening in.

Rocky took my flowers and laid them on the counter with a shake of his head, and placed his hand on the small of my back, leading me out to his large suv.

We soon pulled into the very fancy restaurant parking lot, and he unbuckled his seatbelt. I moved to unbuckle mine, and as he got out of the car, he instructed me not to open the door.

I furrowed my brows, but did as he asked and watched as he walked around the car and approached my door, opening it up for me.

What a freaking softie

I refrained from teasing him like I wanted to as he opened the restaurant door for me, and with his hand on the small of my back, he led me inside. The host seemed to know Rocky, as he greeted him as soon as we walked in, "Table for two, Mr. Saint James?"

Rocky gave a single nod of his head, silently indicating a yes.

We sat in a booth tucked into the corner of the restaurant, and I looked over the menu, trying to ignore Rocky's intense stare. I always feel like he's peering into my soul when he stares like that.

But not even ten seconds after we got sat, a waiter came over and greeted us. Rocky ended up ordering a steak of some kind, and I got a veggie burger with a side of steamed broccoli. I began to dig into my burger, when I felt Rocky staring at me once again.

I felt a little self conscious, thinking maybe I had a condiment on my face, but Rocky actually told me what was on his mind, "Your earrings."

I reached out to touch the earrings he had gifted me, and I smiled, "Yeah, they are very beautiful. Thank you again for them."

"You like them?" He asked and I smiled, "I do."

He looked back into my eyes, "I'll get you another pair."

"Oh that's not-" I began, but he gave me a look that silenced my arguments. I figured he would probably just forget about it so I wasn't going to argue the point any further.

I began eating my burger, and I decided to finally ask Rocky some questions about himself. It seemed like every time we were together, we just talked about me, and I didn't know much about the big man in front of me. Rocky's quite, deep voice pulled me out my thoughts, "What're you thinking about?"

I smiled. It seemed like he reads me better than he could a book, so I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know, I feel like I don't know much about you. Can I like, ask you a few questions?" I inquired, hoping I wasn't crossing a line.

He nodded his head and I asked my questions, "You were only nineteen when you took over the Don position, right? The youngest yet?" I asked, and he confirmed, "Yes."

okay, seems like he doesn't want to talk about his job. noted.

So I switched the subject, "What were your parents like?" I asked, and he gave me a look. He could tell I wasn't going to let this one go, and I noticed he chose his words carefully, "Terrible people."

"Care to elaborate on that?" I asked him, and he shook us head no. Although I didn't really want too, I respected his boundaries, and didn't push it any further.

So I decided to change the subject to something more lighthearted, "Well, what do you do for fun?"

The question seemed to throw him for a loop, and after a second he motioned down toward the table and me. I didn't really understand what he meant, and I furrowed my brows, "You what? Go on random dates for fun?" I asked, slightly offended.

This was my first date, and it would actually break my heart if this was just another means to an end for him, and all he wanted was me in bed.

He shook his head, "No, you."

"You do me for fun?" I asked, without realizing how dirty it sounded at first.

I quickly corrected myself once my face turned pink, "You mean like, sex?" I confirmed, lowering my voice this time.

"No." He corrected himself, "I have fun with you." He told me, and I put the pieces together.

He has his fun when he hangs out with me.

I couldn't help the smile that took over my face, "Y'know, for you being such a brooding guy, you're actually kinda sweet." I teased, and then I decided to let him know I feel the same, "I have fun when I'm with you too." I told him, and he reached across the table to grab my hand.

I asked him a few more questions about himself, some he didn't answer and others he gave a one worded responses, but I was okay with it.

We soon after got the check, and Rocky threw a couple hundred bills on the table, making my eyes widen in response.

He interlaced our fingers together and led me out of the restaurant. We were walking back to the car, and an ice cream shop caught my eye. I tugged on his hand, and nodded my head toward it.

He looked down at me, and at first I thought he was going to tell me no, but he started walking toward the quaint little store.

We ordered our ice cream, I of course got a peanut butter milkshake and Rocky got a scoop of plain chocolate, which was no surprise to literally anyone.

We sat on the bench outside of the ice cream shop as we people watched, and I asked the question that had been swirling in my mind since the day I had met him, "Can I ask you a personal question?"

He looked down at me, and furrowed his brows with a nod.

"Why me?" I asked, and realized that didn't make any sense, "Like, you could have any women you want, and you settled for me. Why?"

Rocky shook his head like I said something stupid, "I didn't settle, Lilah."

"Okay, you didn't settle." I rolled my eyes with a dramatic laugh, and he looked over at me, "Why?" I inquired more seriously this time.

He looked forward again, and I realized he didn't like to make eye contact when we had more serious talks. It was actually kind of endearing, it made me feel happy that he got nervous around me like I did him, and he took another second to answer, "I just knew."

His answer wasn't good enough, "Knew what, exactly?"

He shrugged his shoulders like his next words weren't a big deal, "That I'd marry you."
