"Your apartment is on the top floor. Kamski requested the biggest one, the suit.", the service android said as he guided you through the large lobby of the apartment complex that was standing on the property of CyberLife.

The building was just like the main building of the company, boring and plain white. Everything looked too neat, too clean, too nice. It pleased your eye but not your mind.

This place had no soul and it scared you.

Your lips curled.

"I'm afraid of heights.", you looked at the android with fear shimmering in your eyes. "If I don't see the bottom, it's fine."

"The apartment is covered in windows."

"I can't go there."

The android put down your luggage.

"But Kamski insisted on the top apartment.", he said, obviously not being able to cope with the disapproval.

Trying to find a way out, you let your eyes jump through the lobby.

"Is... is there a possibility to contact mister Kamski to sort this issue out?", you asked.

The android shook his head.

"I do not have the authority to contact mister Kamski. Please follow me. I'll let down all the blinds in the apartment, so you won't be able to look outside."

A shaky breath escaped you.

"I- I don't know if... if I can."

"I have to insist."

"Could you give me a minute?"

"Of course. If you allow, I'll go ahead and prepare the place."

"Yes, please do that."

"As you wish."

With a polite nod of his head, he turned away and disappeared inside an elevator.

Swallowing hard, you sat down in one of the many urban areas that the other employees used to drink coffee and have chats while working.

Your feet were shaking. The feeling of sweat crawled down your spine.

"Fuck...", you gasped and wiped your eyes. "I can't... I... shit..."

Steps approached.

Too busy panicking, you turned your head to look outside into the park.

It was a nice place, especially for Detroit. The dirty itself was a disaster, high crime rate, dirty cities and even worse people. As CyberLife had settled at the outside of the city a few years ago, they had made the hole more attractive to others investors and rich people. The androids had brought some peace and quite.

Now it was a nice city with high functioning police androids and success.

You had never seen the old Detroit, the mess and the crime. All you knew was this, the new Detroit, prim and proper to please the lord and saviour CyberLife.

But even a blind person could have seen that as soon as the tech giant would leave, the entire city would come crumbling down and leave nothing but ashes.

"May I?", a voice suddenly asked.

Frightened, you looked up.

"Mister Kamski!", you jumped to your feet. "Forgive me, sir, I didn't expect to meet you here. I, well, look like a person who's moving."

Kamski gifted you a slim smile. It wasn't really a smile, it just looked like he made the corners of his mouth lift to seem more friendly.

"Can I sit?", he asked and gestured towards the chair next to you.

"Yes, of course. Join me."

He sat down a d folded his hands.

"I've heard you have troubles with the place we provide."

You frowned.

"How... excuse me, but how do you know?", you looked around. "The service android said he doesn't have the authority to contact you."

He nodded.

"That is correct. But every android working for CyberLife has a camera and automatic report function in case of emergency or complain. The android analysed your mood as critical so his system send a request straight to the headquarter."

Understanding, you nodded.

It sounded cool that the entire thing was so high tech and well connected. But at the same time it also freaked you out to know that any kind of android walking around could snitch on you.

Not that you had anything to hide, you just liked some privacy.

"Well?", he caught your attention with a gesture. "What's the issue?"

You cleared your throat.

"Right.", you had to take a deep breath. "It's the apartment."

"I am aware of that."

"It's not really the apartment... but the height. I- I can't go very high. Third floor, maybe, but after that it gets difficult."

His eyes moved.

"The apartment is the best we have to offer. High tech and most comfortable. I insisted on it because you're our new star in the game now."

"I know and I feel honoured. But I can't."

"May I get a reason?"

"No.", you said immediately without skipping a beat.

Surprised, his eyebrows rose. He tilted his head.

You bit your lips, cursing yourself that it had come out way too quickly and rude.

But he didn't comment on it.

"The old places are still available.", Kamski said after a while. "But they are old. Quite behind our standards. And they aren't as comfortable."

Relived that he didn't get offended even though he would have had the right to be so, you nodded.

"I'd like to take a look at them, if I may?", you gifted him a polite smile. "But the service android already brought up my stuff."

He shook his head and got up.

"Don't worry about that.", he typed something into his phone. "He will he right with you. Just call this number and he'll come to where your phone is located."

He flipped his phone to show you an outline of the CyberLife property.

Judging by the size of the map, the area was bigger than expected, with lots of green spaces and unused property. That would probably change over the years when the company kept growing, but at the moment it was still very similar to a community surrounded by large chunks of forest.

"I'll send you the location.", he said and demanded your phone with a gesture.

You handed him your device, the newest phone that the market had to offer, provided by the company.

"It's quite far from the main building...", you noted with a quick glance at the map.

"It is. The old employee places used to be houses in the green. We abandoned them after we expanded. You're lucky, a few are still standing. Notify me when you found one you like. I'll tell the androids to fix it."

Without another word, he turned around and disappeared.

"Thank you, sir...", you mumbled.
