"Are you insane?!", Hanna asked. "You want to leave with him?"

Ignoring her little rant, you continued to pack your bag.

She tried to grab your hand, but you pulled away.

"Hanna, I know what I'm doing.", you insisted.

Shocked, she pulled a face and shook her head.

"You're trying to run from Kamski. The Elijah Kamski! The entire company will be up your ass."

"I'm not trying to run. All I need is a day off or two."

"Which he granted you."

"Without Connor."

A sigh left your lips.

Quickly, you threw a glance around the corner and into the kitchen, where Connor was sitting at the table, waiting.

He was distracted with gathering everything together for a few days out in the wild, food, blankets for warmth, flashlights and a tent.

Just the way he acted made the whole thing seem suspicious as if you two were trying to flee the county, like some criminals.

You closed the door, not only to keep Connor busy and calm but also because it messed with your head that Hanna had the opportunity to look at him whenever she pleased. One wrong second and she could catch a glimpse of him doing something even she wasn't willing to excuse.

Up until this point she had tried to be on Connor's side and had made you be more humane with him. But now even she was about to get nervous and it started to show on which side she would prefer to play when it all came crumbling down.

She wouldn't be on the losers side.

Not that you blamed her.

But you didn't want to risk anything while fully knowing she wasn't on your side. She did tell you there was nothing to worry about, but you dared to think that Kamski would be able to win her over, one way or another.

"I don't even understand why you want him with you so bad, (Y/N).", Hanna crossed her arms in front of her chest and sat on the edge of the bed. "You were the one who didn't want him to be too human. And now you're supporting him?"

"Yes, Hanna, I am indeed supporting his program development and independence.", you rolled your eyes.

"You're being unreasonable with him."

"In what way?"

"You act like he's a human! Who takes their android on a field trip?"

"Android owners."

"He's constantly in your house."

"He's my android."

"In your bed?"

You stopped, eyes narrowed.

"How do you..?", you tilted your head. "Did you spy on us?"

She sat up straight in a defensive manner and shrugged.

"I volunteered to keep an eye on you.", she admitted. "It was a better option than Kamski putting an android up your ass."

You pulled a face.

"So you're here now to spy on us again?", you asked with your teeth clenched.

"No. Not yet. But you're playing a dangerous game. Let Connor here and go on that vacation alone. It will cool Kamski down."

"Hanna, for the last time, I'm not trying to run. I want to test his independence and efficiency in the field. I gave good reasons, he can't say no. He needs Connor working just like I do."

"Pardon me, but you don't seem very trustworthy these days."

You stopped in your tracks to gift her a deadly glare.

But suddenly an idea occurred to you.

Hanna was nervously trying to convince you to do what would be best. But even if you'd listen to what she had to say the risk of her running to Kamski was high anyways.

Either way, she was against you.

So you needed to pretend you were with her.

It was time to play the game the dirty way.

You had to do it for Connor's sake.

"You know what, Hanna?", you put the second bag down that was filled with stuff for Connor. "Maybe you're right. I- I think I should get some distance between us..."

The expression on her face softened, but it was obvious that she wasn't convinced entirely.

"You changed your mind fast...", she noted with an eyebrow raised.

Sighing, you dropped on the bed and buried your face in both hands. With sunken shoulders you managed to play a little sob and shiver.

It was enough to make Hanna look like she regretted being so harsh on you.

"I- I'm sorry... Hanna, it's just...", you started stuttering. "I- I sound like a maniac... I don't know how to think straight anymore! I'm sleeping terribly, I can't eat... I just- I have to leave. You're right."

She came closer to wrap an arm around your shoulder.

"You sound exhausted.", she said in a caring tone.

But you could tell that she was just trying to make sure.

"I am... Work is so overwhelming... There is just so much responsibility. Connors perfection is... ugh! I feel like I failed already."

"Kamski did give you a hard task. Just take a few days off."

"What am I doing with Connor then? He can't stay in the house."

"One thing we can agree on.", she let out a deep breath. "I will think of something. Just... Do you want to say goodbye?"

With red eyes you raised your head.

"I think so?", you got up. "Can you promise he won't get harmed though? I don't want to loose my work progress..."

She curled her lips.

"Would probably be a waste to Kamski as well.", she shrugged.

With an unsure nod, you opened the door, but tilted it so that it was almost impossible to have a look into the corridor.

The door was old so it was easy to hear once Hanna tried to get it open. That way she couldn't spy anymore.

"Connor...", you whispered and leaned forward for only him to hear. "Hanna isn't on our side anymore."

He tilted his head.

"She is working for Kamski?", he asked in the same low voice.

"I fear so. Listen, I will go on my own, that's what I told her."

"Don't leave me here!"

"I won't. Follow me in a few hours. The location is still the same. We will go from there."

You gave him a hug.

He pulled you closer.

"Will everything be fine?", he asked.

You tried to smile.

"I think so, Connor. I hope so..."
