With a grim look on his face Connor managed to sneak around the barn and hide behind the man that was send by CyberLife to shatter the dream he had been living in the past few hours.

Only thinking about loosing all the things he felt he needed to be able to breath made him furious.

That man.

That man right in front of him was a threat that would make him loose everything.

His fingers flinched, but Connor restrained himself.

He needed the guy to walk a bit further so that he could drag him to the backside where nobody would be able to see or hear him struggle.

One step.

Two steps.

Connor followed him as silent as a mouse. His system told him that the man was about his weight and height. He would be able to take him out.

Three steps.

All of a sudden the guy stopped.

Connor froze.

One wrong step and the guy would turn around and see him.

The man's head tilted to the side. Without thinking Connor jumped up, wrapped his arm around his neck and pressed the other free hand on his mouth to suffocate a surprised gasp. With force he dragged him the last bit around the corner and tightened his grip.

The man started struggling and kicking with his feet in the air.

He was surprisingly strong despite the fact that he didn't look any more threading than Connor did himself.

But the android was determined.

With his teeth clenched he tightened the chokehold he had on the man.

The victim struggled.

Connor applied more pressure.

All of a sudden, the sound of bones breaking filled the silence.

The resistance stopped.

Surprised, Connor let go.

Without making a sound, the man's body dropped to the floor. He didn't move. His head was tilted to the side in a strange, tensionless manner.

Confused, Connor eyed him. But as his sensors started to warm him about heat loss, he backed away.

He had broken the man's neck, killing him within an instant.

Red warnings flashed up before his inner eye. His breathing quickened, just like when a human would panic.

But he had no time to loose.

Quickly, Connor turned on his heel and rushed back into the barn.

As his dark head of hair appeared in your field of vision, you raised your head again.

"What happened?", you asked as he grabbed your hand and dragged you along without skipping a beat.

He didn't say a single word as he tore the passenger door of the car open and pushed you inside. He took the drivers seat himself.

It was an unusual move for him, considering that he had never gotten the authority to drive a car by himself.

The engine jumped on and filled the silence with a vibration sound.

For a moment your body was covered in goosebumps. You feared that someone inside the house would hear and rush out to make this turn into a car chase.

But nothing happened as he put the car in reverse and drove it down the property until the wheels hit the county street.

Connor turned the car and hit the gas.

Your heart was beating wildly inside your chest. You threw a glance back over your shoulder, expecting that something, the worst, was about to happen.

But everything remained calm.

Only when the house was as big as a fly in the mirror, you dared to let out a deep breath and fall back into the seat. A sigh made your chest shake.

You needed to close your eyes for a moment.

A raging headache was pressing against the inside of your skull. You felt like the weight of the entire world fell from your shoulders.

As you opened one eye again you looked to the drivers seat.

Connor was holding the steering wheel so tight that it made him look like he wanted to crush it beneath his fingers.

You reached out to touch his shoulder.

He flinched.

"What's wrong?", you asked, worried that he regretted his decision. "I'm sorry I made you do it."

"No.", he said immediately. "You asked me to take him out."

Confused, you frowned.

"Didn't you?"

His lips moved. A strange mix of guilt and pride appeared on his face.

"No... I killed him."

Your heart stopped beating.

Silence filled the car.

"What?", you finally managed to ask. "You killed him?!"

He nodded.

"It was an accident. I broke his neck."

With widened eyes you suddenly sat up straight and looked at him.

"You killed a human?", you asked with a shaky voice.

"I did.", all of a sudden a hint of satisfaction appeared on his face. "I saved us."

He saved you two.

You didn't know why but hearing that from him made you feel sick to your stomach.

He really believed what he said.

He believed he had picked the only good option in order for you two to escape into a happy ever after.

He had killed a human. The human part wasn't even terrible, people killed people all the time.

But the fact that Connor now was so much deviant, he was able to do the most disgusting thing that human life was capable of made him be something entirely different than what you had wished for.

He had turned deviant, but into the wrong direction. He developed a kind of selfishness that made him be greedy. He was afraid to loose you just the way you had been afraid to loose Connor a second time.

The only difference was, he was willing to pay a much higher price for his happiness.

"Connor...", you gasped and fought back the urge to blame him. "Why..?"

His eyes turned to you.

They were so lively, so alive, that it was almost impossible to tell that he had just killed someone.

There was no regret.

Guilt, maybe.

But no regret.

"For us.", he said in a soft voice. "Humans hurt humans all the time. And I'm no different than a human."

You had made a mistake.

You had made a terrible mistake and now it was about to bite your head off.
