"Hey Neil...Ashy Ashy, wake uuup," Colby whispers, shaking me slightly.

"Ermmm," I groan, flipping over.

Colby pokes my cheek rapidly, " Ashlyn Mackenzie Neil, wake the fuck up dude."

I roll over to my side and rub my eye lids, "What time is it?"

Colby checks his phone and sighs, "It's nine o' four cuz you won't get up."

"Jeez, it's time already?" I yawn.

"Yeah, and this was your plan, so get up," Colby whispers in a rushed tone.

"Okay, okay," I mumble, sitting up straight and getting off the couch.

"Thank you, now let's quickly get ready and go downstairs," Colby hushes, going into the bathroom to change.

I sleepily shuffle over to my suitcase and grab my clothes, but I firstly go do my hair and makeup as I wait for Colby to finish in the bathroom.

He soon gets out and I go put on my clothes. As I finish fixing my outfit, I open the door and see Colby almost out the door.

"You ready? C'mon, we can't be late," Colby rushes, quietly.

"Yeah, we're only going to eat breakfast right now, the hospital is only like five minutes or so away," I reply.

"But it's already nine-thirty!" Colby softly exclaims.

I roll my eyes, "Kay, one sec. I gotta put my shoes on." I look for my black sandals but I couldn't find them as my eye-lids were still only half open.

Colby gives a heavy sigh, "What are you doing?"

"Looking for my black sandals!"

"Jesus, Ash," Colby groans, helping look around.

He checks a few places very quickly before seeing under the couch. He finds them.

"Ash!" He whisper-yells.

"What?" I murmur.

"HERE," He chucks them at me and I catch them after they roughly smack my stomach.

"Gosh, you aggressive child," I say with annoyance.

Colby walks back to the door and holds it open as I quickly put my shoes on.

"Alright, I'm ready!" I excitedly whisper, running out the door with my purse in hand.

Colby closes the door, "Took ya long enough."

We walk down to the elevator and get in.

"You were very rush-full today," I comment to Colby.

"Rush-full is not a word," He retorts.

I cross my arms, "You know what I meant, you were rushing out, man."

"Whatever, I just want to see what Sam is going to say to the lawyer," Colby roughly replies.

"Well, not on an empty stomach!" I cheerfully grin, teasing him.

"But-"

"No. We have to eat breakfast, geez did your mother teach you nothing," I scold.

Colby groans, "Your mother obviously didn't teach you to listen."

"You bitch," I gasp.

"Your fakeness is most annoying," He says in a British accent.

"I actually want to kill you sometimes," I groan, walking out the elevator as it opens.

We walk into the large dining section and see many people already eating.

"Yo, there's no way that there's room," He mumbles to me as we scan over the area.

"We can take food and eat in the car," I suggest.

"But I'm the one who's driving," Colby reminds, with annoyance.

"Then we'll eat in your car, and when we're done, we can go," I simply say.

Colby shrugs, "Fine."

We make our way to the line and grab some quick foods to eat and place them in a napkin. Colby does the same.

We ended up both getting hot chocolates, few strips of bacon, bagels, and I got myself a doughnut. It may not be Krispy Kreme but hey, a doughnut is a doughnut.

"Woah, I didn't know they had doughnuts," Colby frowns.

I scoff, "Lucky I got one."

"Can I have a bite?" He asks.

"No," I deadpan, "Bitch, get your own."

"Pleaseee?" He begs.

I take one teasing bite out of the doughnut to get on his nerves. "Mmm, this shit good."

"I fucking hate you," Colby groans, rolling his eyes.

I sarcastically giggle, "Ha, oh fun."

"Whatever, I think I'm done. Ready to go?" He asks.

I shrug, "Go, drive. I'm not driving so I'm eating."

"Alright princess," He teases, turning the key.

He drives us out of the hotel and we leave for the hospital.

/////

"You're really enjoying that doughnut, huh," Colby mumbles as I lick my fingers rid of the chocolate frosting.

I grin, "You know it."

"Geez, you don't have to rub it in. I'm so in the mood for Krispy Kreme..." Colby whines.

I roll my eyes, suddenly feeling nice. "You can have the rest, if you want..."

"Really?" He asks, suspicious.

"Yeah, it's just one bite left though," I mumble, holding it out for him.

He smiles, and eats it out of my hand.

"Jesus Colby, didn't have to do that," I chuckle.

"I'm driving, that was the only option," He reasons.

I dust off my hands and punch his arm.

"Dork."

"Don't call me a dork, we're freaking spies now cuz we're here!" Colby exclaims.

He parks the car and we quickly exit to run without being seen, into the hospital.

"What time is it?" I ask.

"Uhm," Colby checks his phone, "-Nine fifty-five."

"Oh god, we gotta find a hiding spot to look out from," I say, looking around the hall.

"Back into the supply closet!" Colby suggests, dashing to the door of it.

I jog to his direction. "Ya sure?"

"Yeah, we can just peak out," Colby shrugs, getting in.

I comply and get in with him. We don't turn on the lights so nobody gets suspicious and exposes us.

Colby peaks out, and checks his phone for the time.

It just turned nine fifty-eight and the man in the briefcase just showed up.

The lawyer knocks on Sam's door. The Golbachs open it and keep the door open.

Perfect.

They exchange hello and good morning before the lawyer sets his briefcase down and opens it up. Sam looks confusingly between his parents and the lawyer. However, we couldn't hear him too well.

"Colby... Can you hear them clearly?" I ask Colby.

"No... this sucks, we need to get closer," He mumbles back, fidgeting with the plastic edge of him phone case.

I look down at him doing... "Actually, maybe we won't."

He glances over at me with disbelief, "Yeah, ahuh, how?"

"I have my phone, you have yours... why don't I call your phone, you answer it, but slide it into the room," I suggest. "We'll be able to hear them fine if you put it on speaker!"

"That's a pretty good idea," He nods in approval, "Genius but who's going to slide their phone in?"

I stare at him, of course he's going to, not fucking me.

"Oh no, I don't want to," He groans.

"Do it, hurry up we're losing time!" I mutter in a hush.

"No! You do it!"

I sneakily call Colby's phone so he can pick up and not get us caught.

"Hello?" He picks up.

I put it up to my ear and yell, "DO IT."

He winces and pulls his face from the phone.

"FINE!" He finally says, quietly leaving the supply closet.

"Don't forget to put it on speaker!" I whisper.

He mocks me as if he were the spongebob meme, "dOn't ForGEt tO pUT iT oN sPEaKEr."

I roll my eyes as he clicks the speaker button and forcefully slides the phone across the floor. He does that and rushes back inside with me.

I turn my volume all the way up and we both crowd around my screen, intently trying to listen to their words.

"So you agree?" The lawyer, I presume, says.

"Yeah. I didn't expect you guys would file a lawsuit for jail and money or whatever but I guess I'm okay with it," Sam says.

"Honey, you got extremely injured and almost died," Mrs. Golbach reasons, "You need to be on board with this."

"Mom, but I honestly thought we might've sued him or filed a restraining order and that would be it," Sam replies.

Mr. Golbach says, "No... this is the best thing, Sam."

"Okay..." Sam trails.

"So, I want to hear your side of the story first, Sam. So when we get into court, I will know the whole story and will be able to defend you with all the correct information," The lawyer now says.

"Alright," Sam agrees.

"Now let's start with where you heard that it was Kai Brooks who hit you," The lawyer says.

"Well, I was actually having a seizure or heart attack or something, I don't know. It was one big blur, but as I was coughing up blood, Ashlyn Neil, one of my best friends, came in accusing Kai of hitting me with his car," Sam says, as if he was reliving it.

I shiver, that was not a good day.

"You didn't hear him say it yourself or see him hit your car?" The lawyer questions.

"No, sir," Sam replies.

"You don't have any evidence Kai said he did it or, saw him?"

"No."

"No paper evidence of him saying it, no recording, nothing?"

"No..."

"And who told you Kai Brooks was the one who did it?"

"My friend, Ashlyn Neil."

"So let me get this straight... you're believing it's Kai Brooks because your friend said so."

"She wouldn't lie about this, though," Sam sternly replies.

"Sam, Mr. Golbach, Mrs. Golbach, I don't understand how we can go on with this lawsuit without any official evidence besides word of mouth. We won't win," The lawyer finally says.

I mentally gasp but slap myself because that's true. They can't win against word of mouth... and I don't even want to be one of the people to testify against Kai. But even if I do, there is still a massive chance that they'll lose.

"Fuck, Ashlyn he's right," Colby says.

"I know, a lawyer knows. They won't win," I sigh.

Then Mr. Golbach says, "So, what do you think we should do?"

The lawyer says, "Drop this whole thing and move on. Why waste time on a case that we'll most likely lose?"

Mrs. Golbach retorts, "No, we should at least try for our son. There's still a slim chance we can win."

"Ma'am, the chance is not even fifty-fifty. It's much less. I come from an experienced law firm, and trust me when I say the odds are very very slim," The lawyer responds.

"We'll take them, we must try," Mr. Golbach replies.

"You sure?" The lawyer asks.

"Yes," Mrs. Golbach states.

"Fine, I will now need Sam's statement."

I look at Colby with disbelief, "Are you hearing this? I love the Golbachs but-"

"They're idiots?" He finishes.

"Yeah, basically. I can't believe they're still going through with the lawsuit," I reply.

"You're right, but I mean... I can understand why Mr. and Mrs. Golbach want to really go forth with it," Colby murmurs.

"What? How? They're wasting money and time, and that sounds so bitchy but it's realistic. C'mon, they have no evidence, besides what I said."

Colby opens the closet for me to see through to the room, "Ash, look. They're two parents who love their son and weren't even here for the two days he was first injured."

"Yeah, but as they're taking vengeance, it's backfiring and they're not going to get it, at all," I deadpan.

"They're taking the very, very, very, small chance. You can't blame them?" Colby reasons.

"Gee, yeah I can't but why can't you just agree with me instead of always going against me," I mumble.

"Well gosh, sorry not everyone agrees with you," Colby sasses.

"It's not everyone, it's mainly just you, asshole," I retort.

"Whatever," Colby looks through the door's crack to not pay attention to me. "You are so self absorbed sometimes."

"You're a pussy to say it to my face!" I shout.

Colby's face drops in panic as he looks back at me.

"OH NO, they've spotted my phone!" He frantically looks around, "What should I do!"

"I don't know!" I exclaim, stepping away.

"Mr. Golbach is about to pick it up! I have to stop him!"

"No! Colby, wait!-"

He gets up, sprints out, and goes into the room.

Idiot.

The call's still on so I continue to listen to it as I watch Colby scramble in front of the Golbachs like a distressed kitten.

"H-hi," Colby stutters, waving a little, shoving his phone into his pocket. The audio get's muffily as he does that.

"Colby, good morning! Wh-what are you doing here?" Mrs. Golbach asks.

"I wanted to just visit Sam before the rest of the group would come... what are you all doing?" He cleverly asks.

Good excuse, Colbs. Keep it up or I'm so killing you.

"Well, we were just discussing something pretty confidential. Say, why was your phone there?" Mr. Golbach interrogates.

Colby scans the room for excuses but he finally stammers after a hot second, "I must have, uh left it here yesterday."

"Okay then... well glad you have it, but I think you should leave now," Mr. Golbach says.

Colby looks pretty scared, Mr. Golbach is intimidating...

"No, honey I think he should stay. Colby was a witness, and he wouldn't tell. He's best friends with our Sam," Mrs. Golbach says, stopping her husband from saying anything else. "We need more evidence."

"We need all the evidence we can get," The lawyer adds.

Colby pretends to sound clueless, "W-what's happening, exactly?"

"Colby, we want to file a lawsuit on Kai Brooks but we need more evidence on him for saying he did it. Do you know anything?" Mrs. Golbach says.

"Nope... I was just like Sam. I heard it when he heard it. But Ashlyn wouldn't lie about something that big," Colby replies.

The lawyer wipes his face with his hand, "Okay. This is going nowhere." He sighs, "Can we talk to this Ashlyn girl?"

"Oh no, she probably wouldn't want to get involved," Colby responds, waving his hands away.

"How would you know, son?" Mr. Golbach asks, suspicious.

"He knows Ashlyn,... very, very well in fact," Sam says, with a tad bit of annoyance. God, he sugar coded that. Of course that's because he knows about us.

"Right then..." Mr. Golbach says, eyeing Colby.

"Well, I should stay now, I guess?" Colby asks.

"Yes, please do, honey. Let's get your statement. Also,  I trust you won't say anything about this matter to anyone?" Mrs. Golbach asks.

"Not a peep," Colby responds, sealing his lips.

"Thank you," Mrs. Golbach smiles.

I turn away from the crack of the door.

I should just go back to the hotel now, before Ellie wakes up. I know she wanted to sleep til at least eleven. It's now ten-forty.

I sneakily exit the supply closet and get into Colby's car. Thank god I let him put his keys into my purse.

I sit at the wheel of his car, and was ready to explode.

He does so many things.

Dumb,

cute,

stupid,

romantic,

and thoughtful things.

I just hate him but like him so much at the same time.

I hate liking my rival.
