Boy was I thrown for a loop when I realized that Dwight didn't like Chesney at all and I had nothing to be jealous of.

Not sure if I should be flattered or afraid of how he looks at me but I know one thing for sure I feel like an idiot.

I eat the last of my cookie and head to the bathroom before going back outside.

When I walked back out Chesney was on my heels.

"Ready to do a little more work? I know we will have it done tomorrow and then I will start on that bench which will be easy."

"Sure Stone. I mean you are my ride home this evening."

"Well I mean you don't have anything special to do?"

"Do I look like I have something special to do? I do need to go over to moms and start cleaning things out. I want to get that place empty."

"Can't blame you there."

"Whitney said she would like to have it. Thought maybe renting or rent to own so it would be easier for her."

"That's a good idea. She lives in apartments on the other side of town and it's not really safe."

"Oh." She frowned.

Whitney came out of the venue and hollered for Chesney.

She turned around and Whit had the phone in her hand shaking it. "Petals are us is on the phone and Mrs. Loretta needs to talk to you about the flowers."

"I will be back Stone." She said laying the power tool down.

I couldn't help but watch her walk back to Whitney before I continued working on the arch.

It seemed like forever passed when she came back outside.

"I am so sorry that took forever and that lady wanted to talk."

I chuckled. "Get the flowers straightened out?"

"Yeah, she is bringing them by around 8 am on Saturday so we can get them into the arch."

"You can do it with Whitney's help. Don't be so nervous and if you need help I'm sure Clay wouldn't mind or even Dwight."

"Dwight has food to make and Clay and I need to talk before he helps me with anything."

"You are stubborn." I laugh.

Whitney left and we got the arch put together and tomorrow I need to stand it up and get it cemented in.

"Done for the evening?"

"Sure. The rest can be done tomorrow and I need to cement the arch in."

"Let me grab my bag and I will be ready to go."

"I will be in the truck waiting on you," I said gathering up my tools.

By the time I made it to my truck she came out and got in the passenger side.

"After we pack a few things do you want to go get some food?"

"That sounds good Stone. I am sure we will be hungry by then."

Once at Hazel's house, she unlocked the door and went inside.

"If you want to leave you don't have to stick around Stone."

"I am not going to leave you in the place she passed."

"Thanks I really don't want to go to the bedroom but that's the first room I want to clean on."

"Do you think Whitney would want all the furniture? I mean besides the bed."

"That is getting thrown out for sure." She laughed.

"What if we do that now to get it out of the room and it may seem less creepy."

"That sounds like a good idea Stone because it freaks me out."

"Let me break it down for you and get it out of here and put it out by the trash."

She smiled and walked to the bedroom and flipped on the light.

I could tell that she was scared and I just wanted to wrap my arms around her and hold her close but I refrained.

She wrapped her arms around her body and watched as I lifted up one side of the mattress.

"Want the sheets?"

"Hell no." She laughed.

I pulled the mattress off the bed and a book fell on the floor.

"Was that a book stuck between the mattress?" I asked.

She bent down and picked up the leather book and examined it. "Maybe it's a journal?"

I pulled the mattress up the hall and out of the house and when I come back she was sitting on the couch looking at the journal.

"Going to open it?"

"Should I?"

"Why not? You may learn some things about your mother and what made her tick."

"True thanks Stone. I think I will." She said opening the book.

I wanted to give her some space so she can look into it. I walked back into the bedroom and started taking the frame apart.

I carry the headboard and footboard out and then walk back inside for the slats and Chesney is staring at the book not even noticing me. She had her hand over her mouth and I wasn't sure if it was my place to ask what was wrong.

When I walked back inside the house I walked over to the couch and sit down beside her. "What's wrong?"

"Just within the first couple chapters, it explains why she was what she was."

"I am sorry you had to figure out why your mother was the way she was with you guys from a book."

"I need to read more of this but I don't know how to feel either angry or sad."

"It's ok to feel all these emotions, Chesney."

"Is it also ok for me to say that I am glad she's dead? She was not who you all knew and loved. She was a fake." She spits out.

I don't know what I am doing but I moved over closer to her and put my arm around her.

"Let it out, Chesney."

She looked over at me with tears in her eyes and the only thing I was thinking is that I wanted her to not be hurt. I leaned over and put my lips on hers.
