Prologue

Cammie pov

My day to say the least has been hectic. I had training a few hours ago to prepare for my mission. Granted it was a simple recon mission, it wouldn't hurt me to cut in some extra training to my jam-packed day.

Training consisted of sparring multiple rounds with Bex who is ruthless even while facing me, her best friend. Then I went a few rounds with the punching bag and practiced my flexibility and agility. If this thing goes wring I am going to need to be fast in order to get out. It was rare for recon missions to go out of hand like that.

I've been doing this for the past couple of days, ever since I was assigned the mission actually. The last mission I went on required a lot of physical force. Thankfully I had Bex with me. We had to retrieve smuggled weapons to prevent some idiots master plan and the henchmen were huge. A knee to the shin was all it took to bring them down. All it took was one well aimed blow.

Besides training I had to prepare in other ways. Physically I needed to have a bag ready with me with the necessities. I hated packing as of recently. It reminded me of bad memories of mismatched socks and forgetting things at the airport. I always forgot something and one of these days it was going to come back and bite me in the butt.

On top of that there was mission briefings. And then paperwork. Sometimes there was even briefings about the paperwork. Most of the paperwork would have to be done after the mission, but my training with cove ops reports have come in handy. They never seem to bother me.

The mission briefings were boring but essential. Sometimes there would be new information that wasn't in the file they gave me or something crucial that couldn't be written down on paper. Still I almost fell asleep on the last one a few days ago.

My mission to me was fairly simple. One of the CIA's top agents have gone missing. They vanished a few weeks ago. Crews have been sent to his (agent Luke's) last location but there was no signs of anything. The perpetrator covered their tracks well. We have a pretty good chance of who might have kidnapped him. Thanks to Liz's micro-scanners we were able to pull off a piece of DNA matching that of an armed theft a few years ago. It turned out to be a group who called themselves the eye. Crappy name right? Anyway they seem like nothing compared to the circle. Their standard motive was hacking government agencies and armed robbery. Part of my mission was to figure out why they resorted to kidnapping and the grander scheme of it. From my experience the groups that seem small always have a bigger plan in mind.

My briefings focused in part on their previous crimes whether they were successful or not. Local police have picked up the case before when it was things they could handle. But this was different. One of our own was taken, someone who was good at his job. I heard stories about Luke. I've even seen him a few times. He had dark curly hair, was tall and was muscular. All in all he was pretty good looking (nothing compared to my Zach thought). He was only a few years older than me. As someone in high positions of the CIA he is bound to know vital information that can be dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands. That was probably why I was being deployed soon and why it was being taken seriously.

Also in my briefing I had to memorize the psychological profiles of all the known members of the group. It could be useful if I have to take matters into my own hands. It won't come to that though, I won't allow it.

I was on my way to my last debriefing (I believe this was on possible locations of where they might be, because patterns are important) when I ran into Zach. I literally ran into him dropping all of my papers.

"Sorry Zach," I tell him from the floor already bending down to pick up my files. He stood there not helping me, instead staring at me.

I picked the papers up without his assistance (not that I needed it, it just would have been nice). I turned to him and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Oh I was just wondering how much time you would have for me before you go." I sighed. I really did not have the time for this.

"What are you talking about Zach, we see each other all the time." A quick glance at my watch told me I would be late soon if the conversation was going at the rate it was.

"We may see each other but when was the last time we had a descent conversation and not you asking me for the remote." He had his arms crossed against his chest. It didn't take a genius to know that he was upset about this.

"We're having a conversation now." I saw weakly trying to justify myself. He was right. I have been pushing him away to throw myself into work.

"Why are you avoiding me?"

"Truthfully I hadn't noticed, it was unintentional. But all this news about Luke missing and the stories of how good he was reminded me that any day I could lose you too." I know Luke personally so I had no reaction to his disappearance. People go missing everyday its a risk we take with the job, it was a shame he was one able to be kidnapped with his qualifications and experience. It makes me question if it can happen to me. Why not?

The hurt on his face immediately turned to sympathy. He walked closer to me. On instinct I wrapped the files closer around me. He set them on the floor pulling me into his arms. In that moment I felt safe. I didn't care about the camera that were probably recording our every move and analyzing it. I didn't mind that someone could interrupt us. All that mattered was that were were safe and healthy.

But for how long?

Zach buried his head in my hair as he always does. Normally I scold him for messing it up, but the truth is I don't mind. Its quite soothing actually. "When are you leaving?" he asked subconsciously bringing me tighter to him.

"Tomorrow night." I replied savoring this moment. I regret taking this job now. Although backing out now is what a coward would do. The mission only lasted a week. I could suck it up for one week.

"I don't want you to go." He said aloud even though we were both thinking it. "I will be back before you know it." And I sealed it with a kiss. It would be a week until I would be able to do that again. It slightly depressed me.

"It will be a week I promise." I say beaming up at him.

A/N: Most of the chapters from now on will be in Zachs pov but occasionally  there would be Cammie's. Also my chapters are going to be around this length (maybe a couple hundred more words) so I could update more frequently.

So what did you guys think? I don't normally do prologues but after this I feel like I might do more for upcoming stories. And don't forget to vote if you liked this chapter!
