Chapter 18

Cammie pov

I regret a lot of things. One of them being a pit stop on the way to meet the director. Macey thought it would be a good idea to have some strong truth serum, as a last resort of course. Who am I kidding, it wouldn't work on him. He is immune to these things. And technically, beating him senseless was out last resort. To be quite honest, I doubt that would work either but we were running out of options and time. Hopefully Zach got to Luke already, the 72 hours seem to be slipping away more faster recently. I don't want to think about what would happen if we fail and Luke and innocent civilians die.

The car ride was silent which was what I was hoping for. My nerves were on edge regardless and not in a good way. I was anxious to meet with him face to face, but with him handcuffed and restrained. I wanted to know what he did. He has all this information that could help us and he is probably just going to blow us off like the jerk he is. He could even tell us who the traitor is and pull us out of our feeling of mistrust. The bottom line is that I am on edge, nervous and worried about Zach. I mean he is walking into a potential trap, am I not supposed to worry about his well-being? I wanted to be by his side fighting with him, however I knew I had to be here, plus he had backup with him, lots of it. As it turns out, Zach wasn't the only one I was worried about. He was capable of handling himself, just as I was, the only difference begin that he was prepared for what might happen in the warehouse. I, on the other hand, have no clue. Will the director be difficult, cooperative or w waste of time?

I'm worried something might go wrong. I'm worried I might be separated from Zach again. We were separated for such a long time and we only just reunited. It would be a shame if anything be a shame if anything went wrong.

"We're here." Solomon's voice broke me out of my messy train of thought. At last, we were finally at the secure location where the director was being held. The outside looked pretty depressing with its tall grey concrete walls topped with barbed wire. This was not some place you go to willingly.

My parents, Macey, Preston and I walked to the interrogation room quietly and swiftly. Apparently I wasn't the only one who wanted to get this over with. He tells us everything he knows and we will be out of his hair quickly. Now I just have to explain that to him first.

When we walked into the interrogation room, he was sitting at the center of a rather small table handcuffed to it. I nearly sighed in relief when I saw that he was also restrained on his legs. I was concerned about him attacking us. What surprised me the most was when he grinned as soon as we walked into the door. Why was he happy about this?

The guards we met on the way in stayed outside guarding the room. Preston stood in front of the door protecting it from the inside. Everyone else walked into the center of the room where the table was. Two chairs were directly across from the director. My mom and Joe took those seats while Macey and I stood behind them.

"You know why we are here." Solomon said after a brief moment of silence. He nodded. "I know why you are here and I know what you want from me." He took a deep breath and moved closer to them before beginning to talk once more. He said, "And I want to let you know that you won't be getting anything of of me soon. Not to mention that you are all fools for even coming here. This is a dead end and you know it. That means you're desperate, and in this case I have the upper hand." I guess he is going to make us do this the hard way.

"Shut up." Macey told him. "You don't know anything."

He had the audacity to laugh at her. "Silly girl, if I knew nothing, then why are you here? Now let's put our cards on the table. You want information and I want something in return for my troubles. But I'm warning you it won't be easy." This guy was really starting to get on my nerves.

"I doubt it." My mother says to him scoffing. I knew deep down she felt the opposite but was doing this the show him we were not afraid of him. Being confident or at least pretending to makes a difference. She pulls out the truth serum we got and loaded it into a syringe. She then walked over to him and injected it into the side of his arm.

"That won't have any effect on me." He stated sitting still the entire time. We all just chose to ignore him and did it anyway.

"Why are you doing this? Why are you working with The Eye?" Joe asked him seriously. I really hope he gives a decent response, I am tired of all his nonsense, my patience is running thin and we haven't even been in here for a while.

"You really know nothing do you. I am barely a part of their plan, a mere pawn." When he saw our blank faces he had to add in. "You really know nothing."

"Then tell us! Why keep this a secret?" I asked him raising my voice more than necessary. If he knows so much, then why not say anything?

The director had a sick smile on his face as he said, "It's fun watching all of you squirm and be so naive. It's refreshing." He took a deep breath before continuing. "The Eye is much better than you think or estimated."

"Why are you telling us this now?" I asked him. He was being a little more cooperative, not that I am complaining, I just want to know the authenticity of the information we get.

"Maybe I am telling you now because you are running out of time and that would ruin everything and also, I want something in exchange for my cooperation with this investigation."

"What is in it for you?" My mom said crossing her arms over her chest. He smiled, he actually smiled when she asked that, what is wrong with him?

"Well now that you mention it, it doesn't take much. It's the same reason anyone does anything nowadays, money." Why is it always money? Nevertheless we asked him how much.

"If you are asking then it is already too small of a number." I am really beginning to hate this guy, he couldn't make anything easy for us. Joe slams his hand on the table, hard. "Stop distracting us with unnecessary details and tell us what we want to know!"

"It all depends on what you have to offer me." How can one person be that stubborn.

"How much will it take you to talk?" my mom asked trying to be more reasonable with him. "2 million dollars." He says smugly. That was a lot of money. We weer getting desperate at this point, but where could we get that kind of money?

"Agreed." Macey says accepting almost immediately. I guess that solved one problem. I almost forgot that 2 million would barely make a dent in her trust fund. He sighed and placed his hands on the table. The chains made a loud rattling noise.

"I have been working with The Eye for years now. They were founded by a former member of The Circle. He was someone unimportant, with a status not high enough to be well known. He wanted to make a name out of himself so he gathered resources from the old circle days. He made fake businesses to earn revenue and to serve as decoys to remain hidden for as long as he needed. From the reports the CIA filled, you know they pulled off some heists, nothing major. They wanted to remain under the radar. Now they are ready to achieve their plan of letting the world know they exists and won't come down easily." We knew most of this so far, he only gave us some information, but we could have put this together on our own. When is he going to give us something we can use? I really hope it is soon otherwise I am going to have to resort back to my plan of beating him up. I will take my chances at that point.

"Tell us something we can use." Joe said as if he was reading my mind. "Why did they target Cammie?" My mom added in. She brought up a good point, why did they go after me?

"They have a vendetta against Cammie because of her part in bringing down The Circle." That doesn't make any sense though, if we hadn't brought down The Circle then he wouldn't have been able to form The Eye. I feel like he was leaving something out intentionally. "That was why they went after her and asked me to put her on the mission specifically. Also, they made sure a case file against them wouldn't have too much information so you could underestimate them. And they used me for that purpose." It didn't sound like they used him if he was doing it willingly due to the money. "Furthermore, they knew if you went missing your family would go after you and they would be too emotionally involved to do anything productive so they could carry on with their plans and preparations. And judging from the looks on your faces, and the fact that you are here, I'm going to say that their prediction was spot on." At least now some things were falling into place. I do have to admit however, that his powers of observations were good. That did reflect poorly on us since we were so easy to read, it should be the other way around.

"What about Luke? Why would they take him?" I asked. He was the reason this entire thing started. I wouldn't have been on the mission if it weren't for Luke going missing. It all came back to him one way or another.

"You will find out about his role in the plan soon enough." And he is back to being vague again. We should have gotten a stronger truth serum. "What is that supposed to mean?" I asked pressing the matter even further. Whose side is Luke on? What is his purpose in their plan? Was this all a set up?

"And to prove my point I am going to tell you his location." I looked at him shocked. What if this was a trap? Should we risk it?

"And why would you do that?" Joe asked him seriously. "And how do we know you are telling the truth?" Macey added. He shrugged and pointed to the empty syringe that held the truth serum. "I guess you will have to find out."

"We already know Luke's location. Liz was able to track him down and Zach is already on his way to getting him." I tell him smugly crossing my arms.

"Why Cammie, do you think after all this time that finding him would be that easy? Clearly that was a decoy. Luke is at an abandoned warehouse 5 miles away from where your boyfriend is." The smirk on my face vanished instantly. "Now you can trust me to tell the truth because I have nothing to lose. The Eye was always one step ahead of you because of the traitor you now are aware of." We all lean forward. He knows who the traitor is, he can tell us.

"Who is it?" He has been cooperating with us so far with a few bumps.

"I am going to tell you who the traitor is but not because you asked, but because there is nothing you can do at this point that would matter. The traitor is close to you, always has been." Out of the corner of my eye I saw Preston shift from his spot. What was wrong with him.

And then it happened. He moved away from his spot in front of the door and unlocked the cuffs on the director with a key I suspect he had the entire time. I looked at him in shock. "You." I whispered not able to wrap my mind around it. It was him the entire time. How could Preston betray us?

He just shook his head. "I had no choice, they threatened to hurt my mother." His explanation reminded me of what Zach told me about Jonas, they threatened to harm his girlfriend. At least now we can add blackmailer to the list of traits to describe The Eye.

With Preston gone from the door, guards came pouring into the room. At that moment I thought we were going to be ok, they were going to bring the director back into custody. I was mistaken. The guards came in and had their guns trained on the four of us. By not the director was our of his chains and he motioned for the guards to grab us.

Two large guards walked up to be and grabbed me by the arm so I couldn't move. I could get out of their hold with relative ease, the only problem was getting of of here, we were surrounded. Nevertheless, I struggled against their hold which ended badly for me. They punched me in the face and told me to stop struggling unless I wanted something worse to happen.

I hoped Liz would pick up that we were in danger. I hoped Zach would come and find me. It was obvious now who was walking into a trap.

Preston kept looking at Macey to try and tell her something, but she turned her head away from him. The bottom line was that he betrayed us. Maybe Zach was right to have punched him before. I can see now that he deserved it.

The the director walked in front of me. He said, "My part in their plan is complete. You are out of the picture." Before I could comprehend what he said, he pulled out a knife and plunged it into my stomach.

The last thing I heard before I passed out was the loud screams.

The last thing I thought of before was that I hoped I woke up.

A/N: At last you finally know who the traitor was. I was debating whether or not Cammie should get hurt at the end of the chapter but finally I started to think about Zach's reaction and how interesting that would be to write. And don't worry I didn't kill Cammie off, I am not that cruel. This story is coming close to an end, only a few more chapters. Now they know where Luke is, they can go and get him. But the question remains, do they get Luke or save Cammie?

Also I wanted to apologize for the long delay between chapters, I have been so busy and while I wish I could always write, I have other things to do. I am going to write Last to Know this weekend, and then try to finish this story before the beginning of July.
