Chapter 13

Zach pov

The following 48 hours after rescuing Cammie were crucial. If we could put all of our information together and finally go in at last to save Luke and destroy The Eye. Naturally, the next two days went by in a blur. Everything was going by too fast, it seemed like them was no time left.

For the most part Cammie was asleep. She needed to rest and it gave her body time to heal itself on its own. However, we still gave her proper medical attention. When she woke up the first day we brought her back, we made her go through a series of medical tests to make sure nothing was permanent or seriously wrong with her. It took a while, and she got irritated that she had to go through some extraneous scans, I was thankful for it. I needed to reassure myself that she will heal over time.

Cammie thought that going through the necessary and some of the slightly unnecessary scans was frustrating. I was glad she was getting proper medical attention but it still didn't keep me from getting angry. Well saying I was angry would be putting it lightly. I punched a hole in the wall. I couldn't stand seeing all the injuries on her. She had bruises everywhere and scars, both new ones and old running up and down her legs. Seeing what they done to her made me snap. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the people who did this to her. I won't hold back the next time we meet. They will pay for what they have done to her.

On a more positive side, Abby and Rachel arrived a few hours ago. They said they had information but it would be too risky to tell it over the phone so they wanted to come in person. That, and they also wanted to see Cammie. We were all glad she was back in our lives.

We all gathered in the living room a few minutes after Abby and Rachel arrived. They left Jonas with Professor Buckingham.

It was a little crowded in the small living room with all of us in there, but we managed to survive. Cammie was the first to speak, divulging into her story.

She explained how her mission briefings meant nothing and that the director withheld information from her. She found out the hard way when she was tailed, followed into an alleyway, beaten up and then drugged. Cammie mentioned how she was constantly interrogated and when she refused to tell them any classified information they tortured her. She never cracked, not giving up any information.

I realized in her explanation she glossed over the details of her injuries. She didn't heavily go into detail about what they used to do to her after an interrogation. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who noticed, and I won't be the one to question it. When she is ready she will tell us what happened to her, even though we have a pretty good guess from her injuries.

Once again, she brought up only seeing Luke twice. That was not as suspicious in comparison to what one of the guards hinted at when we were in a cell together. Cammie explained that the guard hinted that there was something very big and obvious that we were missing. I kept thinking back on the figure I saw in the window smiling. It was clearly evident something was eluding us. All the signs pointed to it. It frustrated me that I had no idea what it could be. And it turns out I'm not the only one.

My best guess would be that it has to do with Luke. I find it strange that we know so little about him,

Rachel began talking next. She explained ow they kept a close eye on Jonas and tried several interogation tactics on him. He didn't reveal much but what he did was important. The Eye was a much bigger organization than we gave them credit for. It seems as if we are always underestimating them and it comes back to bite us.

Their cover is to look like a regular organization with evil intentions. It's similar to the Gallagher Academy's cover of being a school for rich girls. The Eye is smart, and cunning and they always manage to become one step ahead of us.

Then it was my turn to tell my part of the story. I mentioned how I broke away from the others at the warehouse and blended in with the other members. No one paid any attention to me, it seemed to easy at the time. Now I realized I was walking right into a trap. I was knocked out and woke up in a cell. They brought Cammie in, it took me a while to realize it was her. The guards tried to get information about where Solomon and the rest of the gang were. When I said noting they hurt Cammie and I. Then we plotted our escape attacking two guards and freeing ourselves. We were fighting them off and were losing when Bex and Solomon came in. We went straight for the car and headed to the safe house after checking to make sure none of us were being tracked.

The entire time I was telling my side of the story, I was starring directly at Cammie. She was looking down at her hands.

I wanted to know what was going on in her head. I knew this wasn't the easiest thing to do at the moment, talking about her capture. I want to make sure she is ok mentally. Physically, she will heal, its the mental scars that take the longest.

Once I finished explaining my part in all of this, Solomon took charge ordering us to different tasks. We needed some time to let the information sink in and focus on another angle.

"Bex, and Macey, I want you two to help Liz track down Luke at all costs. They probably switched bases the second we left. Preston, set up a perimeter around the safe house, you are taking first watch. Zach look after Cammie. The rest of us are going to come up with a plan and determine if we need to take any formal action against the director of the CIA." He ordered in a stern tone.

"What would you consider formal action?" Cammie asked finally looking up. Her facial expression was hard to read, driving me crazy. I want her to let me in.

"Bringing in M16, Interpol and the uncompromised agents of the CIA to launch an official investigation against the director. In that case he will be forced to step down and we could get some real evidence on him." That sounded that like a good plan, yet I could see many potentially dangerous flaws. They had an interesting discussion ahead of them.

We all broke off and went to our assigned tasks. Cammie and I sat there for a few more minutes in the living room. Everybody else already left, leaving us alone in the same room.

"Come on, let's redress your wounds." Her wounds needed to be redressed every couple of hours and she needed to apply some type of cream to reduce the bruising. She got up and let me bring her to the other room. She lied down on the bed and lifted her shirt so I could open up the bandage.

"Did you get enough sleep last night Cammie? The doctor told you to get at 10 hours of sleep minimum for your body to heal faster."

"My sleep was sufficient enough." She told me wincing as I applied the cream to her abdomen. "You need to rest more Cammie. Try not to stress yourself out, that might be why you aren't getting enough sleep." I was about to go on when she let out a hiss of pain. I looked down automatically. She made a sound when I touched the end of her gash. "How much does it hurt?" I asked her concerned being more gently of applying new bandages to the same injury.

"I'm fine Zach." She said trying to sit up. I gently pushed her back down saying she needed to go to sleep. Her eyes flashed with annoyance. Cammie got up and pushed me roughly.

"Listen to me Zach. I am fine, I don't need you ordering me to sleep and telling me off for when I don't get enough. I am capable of taking care of myself so stop nagging me!" I sighed, I just want to help her as much as I could. I wasn't able to be there for her before and this is me making up for lost time.

Also the fact that she is obviously in pain and brushes it off like its nothing worries me. How could she disregard her own health like that? Even standing up now, she was holding her left side trying to mask the pain.

"Let me help you." I say gently, reaching for her arm to steady her. Cammie jerked away from my grasp. "This is exactly what I am talking about Zach. I can do things on my own. I am fine."

Hearing her say that caused tears to cloud my vision. "But you're not." I whispered. A few tears escaped. She walked up to me and put her arms around me. "I can't stand seeing you like this, injured and pretending you're not." She tightened her grip on my shoulders. "I want to help you because it's the only thing I can do at this point. If I could I would go after every single person who laid a hand on you. But I can't and it frustrates me. I feel useless that I can't go after them and give them what they deserve." She buried her head in my shoulder. I could feel her silently letting out her own tears as well. She didn't interrupt knowing I needed to get this off of my chest.

"At one point, I thought I would never be able to see you again, that scared me. It reminded me of all those years ago when you were kidnapped before. You're the only who could to make me go crazy." If I went crazy when she went MIA before, this time I went insane.

Cammie lifted her head from my shoulder. Tears were running down her face freely but she started wiping mine away. "I felt the same way in the beginning. I thought I would never see you again, that I would die in that cell. However, thinking pessimistically wouldn't get me anywhere. I had to focus on the positives and try coming up with an escape plan. I was confident that I would find my way back to you one way or another. Either I would break out or you would break in. Nothing could keep us apart for long."

"How are you not shaken up by all of this?" I asked her seriously. She gave me a small smile before placing my hand over her heart. It was beating furiously. "I am freaking out right now but I won't let my fears hold me back." She had stopped crying, though there were still tears in the corner of her eyes. I realized that she was being strong, not just for herself but for both of us.

I leaned in and kissed her. "Thank you." She nodded and relaxed in my arms. As long as we had each other, everything else was secondary.

I wanted to stay like that the entire day. In spite of that, we were called into the living room by Townsend. We broke apart from our embrace. Her side was still hurting so she let me carry her into the other room where everyone was gathered. Bex and Macey gave us weird looks, although everyone else didn't give it a second thought.

I placed Cammie in a chair and stood behind it. Abby clapped her hands. "Good, now that everyone is here we can start."

"Here is everything we know so far." Liz started to say. "The Eye is a more advanced than we gave them credit before. That was how they were able to move their prisoners under the radar. Their cover is a good one, it stumped us until now making us lose valuable time. They have connections with other organizations on the CIA's most wanted list, and over a dozen bases just in Europe. We have confirmation that they have already ditched their warehouse base. Bex went over there to find the entire place wiped clean."

Macey took over the explanation. "We know we are missing something big, and it most likely has to do with Luke. They are always ahead of us, causing us to make rookie mistakes like walking into a trap. They made entering and escaping relatively easy, almost too easy. Everything is above suspicion right now. We can't afford to be behind once more. That said, I bring up the figure Zach saw in the window before leaving. We have come to the conclusion that they wanted us to escape knowing we wouldn't have enough time to go back for Luke giving them enough time to escape through our fingers once again."

"How were they always one step ahead of us?" Cammie asked already knowing the answer. We all knew the answer, all that was left was to say it out loud. Bex was the one to answer. "It means we have a traitor among us."

A/N: Sorry for the long wait, I apologize, I won't let it happen again. Now, since that's out of the way, what did you guys think of the chapter? Who do you guys think is the traitor? What do you think is their motive? Also in this chapter I wanted to show Zach's insecurities and his fears while Cammie took charge for both of them.

Don't forget to comment telling me you opinion on this chapter, and vote if you liked it :) The next update is going to be in 2 weeks.
