Chapter 11

Zach pov

I finally woke up groggy and disoriented. The back of my head ached when I touched it. I hissed in pain. After making sure I wasn't putting a lot of pressure on my head I made note of my surroundings. The room was dark except for the small ray of light in the center. It didn't give off that much light, just the right amount for me to see what was in front of me.

It was plainly obvious that I was in the Eye's headquarters. My plan sort of worked out. But when do our plans ever work out? Something always goes wrong. For instance, I made a rookie mistake and did not notice that there was someone sneaking up behind me.

Although to look on the brighter side of things I can turn this to my advantage. I still have the tracker on me (I hope) and I can try to get out of this room, find Cammie and then leave and meet up with everyone else. That is much easier said than done. I had restraints on my legs and now that I notice it, on my hands too. They were just long and quiet enough for me to overlook when I touched my head before.

I really hope that Solomon and everyone else were behind me. Otherwise everything would be ruined. It wouldn't matter if I find Cammie if we have no backup. There is no way we are making it out of here alive without backup.

I was strategically trying to find a way to get myself out of my shackles with the items around me which was basically a few pieces of straw and dirt. I was scanning the room for more things when the door opened. A guard stepped, only he wasn't alone. He came in holding a figure by the neck. By the looks of the poor person being dragged in, I assumed that they were a women. A prisoner no doubt, just like me now.

The girl was restrained as well. These people were taking every precaution. The girl was forced onto the ground across the room for me. Meanwhile the guard remained silent, I couldn't see his facial expression.

I kept trying to see who the girl was. Could it be Cammie? She didn't look like Cammie, then again I haven't seen her in months. This girls hair was short, black but not naturally, almost by dirt and grease. She looked skinny as if she was starved. We know she had been captured by them and its not like they would treat her like the Queen of England.

The girl would not look up, therefore I couldn't see her face. On the other hand, she wouldn't be able to see mine. I was interrupted when the guard let out a low chuckle. "Well this was not the reunion I was imagining."

It was Cammie.

"Cammie?" I called out. My voice was hoarse from not using it for hours. Her head shot up. "Zach?" Her voice was even worse. I barely recognized it, I barely recognized her. Automatically I reached out for her. I tried moving closer but my retrains pulled against me painfully. Cammie did the same, instead she cried out when her restraints pulled against her skin tightly.

I was so close but so far away. She was 3 feet away from me and I couldn't even touch her, comfort her, tell her we are finally getting out of this alive.

The guard left shortly afterward. And yet it made no difference, whether he was here or not we were not safe. There was at least one camera in this room monitoring our every restricted move. The guard could have easily planted a listening device in the room while we were distracted.

It was not safe to talk but we had no other choice. I opened my mouth to speak when the guard came barging back in with another one with him. What did they want now, to continue to mock our painful situation?

"We have questions and you are going to give us answers. Understood?" Guard 2 said trying to be menacing. I scoffed and tried to contain my laughter. Was this their idea of an interrogation. They are making this way too easy.

I leaned against the wall. "And what if I don't give you your precious answers?" I asked them boldly, a smirk weaving its way onto my face.

"Tell us how you got here?" Guard 1 shouted slamming his hand on the wall. It landed with a loud slapping noise. Why would he do that when he knows it would only hurt him? If these are the people joining the Eye, I would hate to see what the leaders have in store.

"He asked you a question. How did you find this location?" Guard 2 practically yelled in my face. He really needed a breath mint. I looked him directly in the eye and told him "I am not telling you anything." It was their turn to smirk. The corners of their lips turned into an evil smile.

"We know how to make you talk." I looked at them wearily. They better not do what I think they are going to do. They started to move closer and closer to the other side of the room, the side with Cammie. My heart beat started to quicken. I instantly regretted my overconfident approach.

Cammie did not flinch when they came by her with fists raise. That made my heart break, she was used to that. It should have never come down to this. This is my fault.

They started to punch and kick Cammie. I yelled at them to stop. Every time I did they asked if I was ready to give up information. Then Cammie would whimper and tell me not to give in to them, and the cycle would start over again. I pulled at my cuffs harder than before determined to get out. I had to get them to stop hurting her. Why wouldn't they hurt me instead?

After a few minutes I couldn't take it anymore. I shouted that I was ready to talk. Cammie protested. In response they slammed her head on the ground. My heart ached once more.

"Now how did you find us and where are the rest of your little friends."

I sighed. I didn't want to give up any information but I hated seeing Cammie hurt, especially in front of my eyes where I am helpless to do anything. I just wish I could get my hands on those two guards and anyone else who hurt her in this wretched place.

"I don't know where the others are." Which was not a complete lie, they had to be somewhere close right. "I followed some of your members after the warehouse ambush, you know the rest." I assume they know about the ambush, they were probably part of it.

"Now you have to answer one of my questions." I say. They gave me a questioning look. "And why do we have to do that?"

"We have one of your snitches in custody." We had leverage on them, and I was going to use that to get my answers for once. They gulped nervously. "Well what us it?" I was hoping they would say that.

"How did you find out about our location at the warehouse?" They started laughing as soon as the question left my mouth. "You and your friends are too naive." Guard one said aloofly.

"What kind of answer is that?" I said angrily. It seemed straight answers were hard to come by these days, which is a same, it made things so much easier.

"The answer you are getting. And since you have no more leverage we are going to go." And they left just as quickly as they came. Then it was just Cammie and me.

"Cammie?" She lifted her head up groaning. "Are you ok?" I asked her knowing she was the exact opposite. They did not hold back at all. Cammie didn't respond making me grow more worried by the second.

"Are you bleeding?" Again there was no response. The only sound in the room was the sound of chains rattling and her occasional whimper.

"Please talk to me." I begged her. I was glad I was with her, but not like this, in captivity with both of us restrained on opposite sides of the room. Would we be able to reach other?

"I'm fine" She said plainly. I frowned hoping for a more detailed account of her injuries. "Can you at least tell me what happened to you?" Then at least one part of the mystery would be solved.

"I was compromised from the beginning. The information I got wasn't right from the start. I suspect the director was involved. Something is not right about the agency. Corrupt agents are everywhere. They couldn't even tell me their ulterior motive. I wonder how they were able to pull all of this off. Anyway I ran out of leads and was making my way to a safe house when I was cornered in an alley and knocked out. Then I woke up in a cell. And I still don't know where Luke is, that was the point of this whole mission wasn't it?" She let out a shaky laugh. "They are listening to everything we are saying." She told me via sign language.

'Of course they are' I replied. She smirked and I knew exactly what she was planning.

"Zach tell me where Solomon is. I swear I wouldn't tell anyone, I care about him and need to know where he is right now. You can trust me right?" She was trying to trick them by hinting at me to give them false information. They seem idiotic enough to fall for that. The first things those guards are going to do is tell their boss and that gives us a small and flimsy chance at escaping.

I sighed before saying, "I will tell you the truth Cammie, as long as it stays between us." I give her a questioning look and she returned mine with a nod. "I wasn't exactly lying before when I said I didn't know where they were. I know that right now, Solomon, you mom, Townsend and Abby are all in a safe house in Germany. They told me they found a lead, I was planning on following once I figured out this location but clearly I can't get to them now." I held up my chained hands for emphasis.

"And how did they get to Germany so fast?" She asked. I knew she was trying to make sure we came with a believable cover story so there would be no questions asked. "They used a private helicopter."

We heard a shuffling outside, like the sound of people walking away. We did it I thought optimistically.

"Quick Cammie, come closer to I can try to get the chains off of you." We both moved as quickly as we could to the other, the chains rattling loudly. My heart started beater faster and faster with each passing second in fear that someone was was going to walk in and find us trying to escape.

"How are you going to pick the locks?" She asked sliding closer and closer to me. "I don't know but I will find a way." I noticed her head drop as she stayed still. "This isn't going to get us anywhere. Time is of the essence and we can't afford to lose it hoping we would magically find something that will get rid of our chains." I knew she was right but I couldn't help but sigh.

"What do you propose we do?"

"I'm glad you asked." She said with a small smile on her face. "I have weeks of knowledge on this place. I know about all the guards, their schedules, when they rotate on duty and their physical weaknesses. We can create a distraction, get them in, steal their keys and go." I have to admit her plan sounded a lot more practical than mine. I was about to ask her if we should use their clothes to blend in when she interrupted and told me that a new group of guards would be coming in 45 seconds.

She looked me in the eyes as she told me seriously, "Go along with whatever I say or do." I nodded. I trust her to get us out of here alive.

15 seconds passed, I could hear people talking in the distance. Meanwhile the cell was deathly silent.

30 seconds passed, I could hear their footsteps getting closer to the door. Cammie screamed banging her fists on the door. "Help me please!" I was well aware of the fact that she was faking but it still hurt me seeing her like that. I doubt her injuries from the beating were fine. My first priority once we get out of here is finding her medical attention.

The guards came rushing into the room closing it behind them, that was their first mistake. "Help me." She was whimpering on the floor clutching her head.

"One of her wounds opened up." I tell them in a fake panicked voice. Well that wasn't entirely true, I was really concerned that her injuries were more extensive than what she originally told me.

Both guards walked up to her crouching down to her level. That was their second mistake. The keys on the second guard were eye level to Cammie. That was their third and last mistake.

Cammie sprung up kicking both of them making them fall on their knees. The keys fell off of the guard. I reached over to snatch them. While I was struggling to find the right key to open the chains Cammie was doing her best to fend them off. She calculated her moves carefully and skillfully. She knew the first guard favored his left leg which caused her to aim for his right. I finally found the right key when Cammie managed to knock the first guard out. I got the chains off of both of my legs and feet and tossed them to her taking on the guard. After a few blows he was knocked out along with the other guard.

"Should we take their clothes and blend in?" I asked Cammie helping her out of her restraints. "We don't have time." She grabbed by hand and pulled me out of the room.

"There should be an exit to the right of the hallway." Cammie told me urging me to run faster, that was much easier said than done. My legs felt like jello. We were close, so close when guards started to pour in. How did they find out so fast?

They began to surround us, the only way out was through them. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get Cammie out of here. We stood back to back with our fists raised. It's time to fight back.

A/N: I know this is super late but better late than never right? I made this chapter slightly longer because this was a late chapter. I thought I could update on Thursday but there was just so much going on and I am tired all the time.

Anyway Zach and Cammie finally see each other, but can they win the fight and get out? The next chapter will hopefully be on time, around the 19th. I am going to be updating Last to Know soon, so be on the lookout for that. I'm just going to end the authors note here because I am exhausted.
