Objectivism. It's a philosophy that dwells on the principle that everything you create is yours and that your interests passes before the interests of others. It is a philosophical system developed by Russian American writer Ayn Rand. Rand first expressed Objectivism in her fiction, most notably The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957). Objectivism's central tenets are that the proper moral purpose of one's life is the pursuit of one's own happiness, that the only social system consistent with this morality is one that displays full respect for individual rights and that man is a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.

Academic philosophers have mostly ignored or rejected Rand's philosophy. Nonetheless, Objectivism has been a significant influence among libertarians and conservatives. The Elite saw in it a guideline for the future. They envisioned themselves as the heroic beings fighting for their place in this universe. They built empires and tried to control Earth's political environment to steer its policies according to their views. They invested huge sums of credits in propaganda campaigns aimed at giving the industrialists a savior's aura. They were seen as benefactors for the human condition. Token charities were set up to embellish their image. Giving the people the impression that the industrialists were working to make things better, while setting up measures to ensure that the illuminated leaders of Earth's industrial might would keep their grip on mankind's destiny. They saw themselves as the strong and they believed that the strong had the natural right to decide for the bovine proletarian masses. They thought that natural law was above good and evil.

Eventually, their crude methods were outlawed by the Earth's Human Rights Superior courts, saying that such policies would not benefit the human race as a whole. What changed the tides of public opinions was a slew of leaked memos, one such memo was from a pharmaceutical tycoon's personal mail server. In it was the layout of a plan to reduce the population by at least seventy-five percent of its current demographic. The memo specified that it would be done in a 'humane' and invisible way through the simplest of methods.

Add sugar.

Their plan was to increase the daily intake of sugar by the masses to reduce the average life expectancy. Make them fat and unhealthy. They die younger. All this with a sterilizer added to the ingredients of some highly popular foods. Those foods and drinks pushed at great publicity costs to the population to make them staple foods. Unavoidable foods.

After the Earth's Human Rights Superior court's decision, the people responsible for devising such inhumane methods rallied under the banner of a charismatic leader. The Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom of Terra was vested in Culwin Tyran. He organized the systematic exodus and consequent colonization of Mars by said industrialists, stealing in the process Earth's fleet of dreadnoughts under his command. This elite took with them their expertise and industrial might in disguised ventures. Ventures to colonize Mars by private companies. Earth's government, busy with coping with its growing population, never had the resources to attempt such a feat.

When all was in place to do the final move, they announced their intentions to leave Earth to its fate and with The Lord High Admiral's help, left the Earth behind to start their vision of a perfect society on Mars.

At first, there was an angry response from Earth's leaders. But, impotent without their fleet. They were unable to pursue those who had stolen the United Kingdom of Terra's entire space fleet. Relations were reluctant at first, but got better as Earth's growing population's demand for water grew exponentially. Mars with their ships and navigational expertise developed a fleet of freighters capable of carrying ice from Saturn's rings. Ice water sorely needed by Earth.

The Martians finally had their society and on their terms. Trade was prosperous. As per their philosophy, the strong got richer and the weak got poorer. Their society was quickly ruled by an elite again with the Tyran family at the top. Earth recovered and rebuilt their shipping and military fleet. Mars had the initial advantage and had a head start on Earth. They controlled seventy percent of the shipping done in the colonization of the rest of the solar system. Their influence grew and so did their good image. The past was forgotten in this climate of reprieve from Earth's depleted resources. But this proved the be only a temporary fix. The problem of Earth's growing population was still there.

In 2187, relations grew strained between the sol colonies and Mars asked for its independence. The Martians had acted like they were still loyal to the Earth's royal commonwealth, but pretty soon all pretenses were dropped. The Martians didn't want to support Earth's failing society anymore by paying taxes to its government. Earth badly needed the Martian fleet daily shipments, so they gave their consent to Mars independence readily.

The tensions between the Earth and its colonies didn't alleviate however. The strain on Earth's demographic explosion on its governing body and the colonies growing greed fueled by a sentiment rooted in the growing alienation of huge segments of their population. After the second generation, the colonists lost their sense of belonging with the people of Earth. Earth treated colonists with condescension and made the colonies feel like they owed them everything.

In 2190, the inevitable happened. A war broke after a minor skirmish on a dock in low orbit around Earth resulting in the death of Earth's Prime Minister who happened to be there at the moment. The whole incident had been planned by Mars Intelligence to get rid of Earth's prime minister who's anti-colony views were well known. The relations between Earth and its colonies soured in record time and the other colonies quickly lined up behind Mars who had invested billions in a propaganda to make them look like the oppressed. They were viewed as saviors by the other colonies who looked at them for guidance.

Diplomacy failed and embassies were emptied and closed. The Colony War that would last almost eighty years and claim a total of fifteen billion, nine hundred million souls had begun.
