Ryzen POV

It seems like my thoughts about Millen Yu's family last night were a bit foretelling, since the next day, I was suddenly summoned into the main mansion.

Apparently, Kenneth Yu had something important to say and he wanted all of us to wait for him.

I arrived relatively early, actually.

Katrina Yu wasn't even home yet, as she's probably still out socialising with other elites. Kenneth Yu, on the other hand, would still be arriving around dinner time.

I think it's kind of a waste to just spend the rest of my time here, waiting in my room. Maybe going to the library or movie room would be productive enough for me...

While on my way to the library though, I did not expect to hear an intriguing conversation between Zeus Costales and his guest.

They were in the open meeting area, which was near to the grand library room. Unlike the library, there was no walls or doors to cover the open meeting area. Anyone could hear the conversation that would take place if they were near it.

Anyways, it is not like it's a big deal. Everyone in this mansion are people of Millen Yu's family. The open meeting area was also quite spacious. It was a favourable area to talk with guests.

I immediately hesitated to open the library's door and decided to stay outside.

I briefly saw Zeus Costales talking to his guest. They were having tea and it seems like they are discussing casually, but who knew that they were actually talking about heavy political topics.

I hid myself behind the wall, wanting to listen more to their discussion. Even though my state right now might look ridiculous, I could not care less. Especially when the topic they are talking about mentioned a certain someone's name.

"Frankly, I do not think it makes sense. Why do we need to put charges on him, when he has not done anything to violate the law?" I heard Zeus Costales murmur in a serious tone.

"But Sir, he is clearly challenging the government. He will outshine the president's popularity if we do not do anything. The opposition side is using him as their mascot to oppose the government." the other person reasoned out.

"If I do author a case that will summon him into court, don't you think it will only backlash on us? The opposition side will only gather more supporters by raising sympathy for him. There's no doubt that he's doing good anyway. Just leave the mayor of La Coron City alone." Zeus Costales replied with a hint of impatience.

I heard the other person sigh before speaking again.

"Then, I will have to choice but to comply with your decision, Sir. But I should remind you that, it was the president himself who brought up this idea." he said.

"Yes, I am fully aware of that and will take full responsibility for it. I'm sure the president will understand when I explain the reasons why." Zeus Costales replied nonchalantly.

"Speaking of which, have you finalised the bill on giving additional executive abilities to the president?" the other person asked.

"Yes. Although, I did put some revisions in it. I will present the complete version on court tomorrow." Zeus Costales stated.

Afterwards, they talked about political stuff more and there were technicalities that I could not understand.

Hmm... I guess my eavesdropping is enough.

I've already heard the part about Lennox, anyway.

So, it was the president who wants to cause more trouble for him? From the looks of it, I have a guess that the president was also instigated by fishy politicians just like the person that Zeus Costales was talking to.

Indeed, politics is a very dirty and dangerous game.

I've been in the medical field in my original life and it was nothing like politics at all. Sure, there would be some jealous co-workers and so on but it would not get to a point where people would use the law in order to power-trip other people.

As arrogant as it sounds, I thought I was pretty smart since I would always be on top of my class while in school and was even awarded several recognition as a doctor.

However, politics is a whole different world. I am not sly enough to manoeuvre around it.

I sighed as I turned to finally open the library door.

However, it seems like the way I opened the door made a loud noise. I almost wanted to curse myself as I closed my eyes in disappointment.

"Who's there? I told all of you to not come within this area." Zeus Costales asked.

With no retreat route, I took a deep breath and closed the library door again. I came out of the wall and made myself visible to Zeus Costales and his guest.

Zeus Costales' eyebrows raised a bit upon seeing me, but his expression instantly relaxed.

"Ah, it's just you, my granddaughter. Come here, greet Senator Banzon." he said a warm voice, his hands directing me to walk closer to them.

I swallowed my hesitations as I walked towards them and now, I could see the face of the man he was talking to clearly.

Hmm. Right, this is Senator Banzon. He looked like he was in his early 60's and he is one of the political figures that I remember instantly because of his looks.

Senator Banzon looked too 'fierce' for me. To be precise, I think he resembles an alligator because of his features.

If I'm not wrong, he is on the same political party as Zeus Costales. They also seem like pretty good friends.

"Greetings, Senator Banzon." I greeted formally.

The man only nodded at me, not even bothering to give a smile.

"Greetings too, Miss Millen." he replied respectfully.

I gave a small smile at him and looked at Zeus Costales. I really want to leave now...

"You're going to spend your time at the library, aren't you? Sure go ahead, don't worry, I will order a maid to just call you later when Kenneth comes home." Zeus stated.

I let out a polite smile again at the two of them before lowering my head a little and finally leaving.

I sighed in relief once I got in the library. Inside, I could not hear anything outside at all.

I tried to make myself busy by reading a medical book, but instead of actually reading it, my mind went on a loop thinking about the conversation that I overheard earlier. Why do I feel that there's something off about it? Like, something bad could happen.

Should I tell Lennox that the national government was planning to taint his credibility this time by putting false charges on him?

But, eh...

Didn't Zeus Costales already oppose to the idea? And he's the senate president, the third most powerful person in the country, only after the president and vice-president.

Hmm...

I decided to text him anyway and in just less than a minute after I've sent it, he already replied.

Lennox: If they proceed to do so, they are forgetting that I am capable of defending myself. Besides, there are also my parents who are the most recognised lawyers in the country. Not to mention our whole clan. Don't stress too much about it, your man is strong and capable :)

Hmmp. As expected. I shouldn't have told him, since he only treated it as if it's a trivial matter. But anyways, it is good that he's informed, right? So he can be prepared and more vigilant.

Also, his answer makes me feel undeniably relieved. He really has his ways to assure me.

I spent the rest of the time texting him and before I knew it, a maid called me to proceed to the dining area.

I was the last one to arrive.

Zeus Costales had a serious expression on, while Kenneth Yu looked like he was in a really bad mood. His wife, Katrina, also looked upset.

They didn't seem to mind my sudden interruption as I sat on my seat. Kenneth Yu just continued talking.

"It went bad. It's a disaster, really. They just could not accept it. But if I don't cut them off, then what's going to happen to us, right? We might even get implicated. In addition, their alleged estafa cases are like a ticking bomb." Kenneth Yu said in a dismayed voice.

Estafa? Swindling?

I got goosebumps upon hearing that word.

"I am just afraid that they will use underhanded means to attack me. I know them. Their tricks are very dirty. They will not hesitate to harm even my family. So I am saying, we should double our bodyguards from now on." he continued.

Kenneth Yu then looked at me which made me widen my eyes, surprised for a bit.

"You. Especially you, Millen. You don't even stay that much in the mansion anymore. Honestly, I really prefer that you studied overseas instead. Hmm, just don't go anywhere without bodyguards, okay? I will add more people from now on." he said in a serious voice.

Not knowing what to say, I only nodded at his long speech.

I do not know the full context of what has happened since I arrived late. Or rather, they do not mind at all since they probably think that I should not stress myself too much on it.

But based from what he's saying as the dinner went on, it seems like he pulled out investments from local businesses and those business partners that he had loathed his decision.

So now, in the case of possible problems, our security will be doubled.

It is good to do precautions. But, I am rather confident with the abilities that Millen Yu's family had. Her dad, Kenneth Yu, is one of the country's richest man. On the other hand, there is also the Senate President, Zeus Costales.

With their influence in both politics and business, I do not think anyone can win against them.

Unlike before, I noticed the arrogance and self-interest they had, which I am not a fan of.  However, this fact doesn't waver my confidence in their abilities.

After all, I've been living with them as a 'family' for quite a long time now...
