Ryzen POV

I let the time pass by replying to the relevant people who messaged me, such as Millen Yu's parents. I couldn't be bothered with the rest and just marked them all as read.

With that, my heart suddenly fluttered when a new text message popped up from an unknown number.

Unknown number: Hi Millen, I'm here at St. Lucas Hospital. Where are you? - Lennox

I bit my lips as I smiled at the text message. I didn't even have to lift a finger to get his phone number. I could guess that he got my number from Dr. Ging. In some way, this is some kind of development, right?

I quickly saved Lennox's number and replied to him.

Me: Outside of Room C, 12th floor. Do you want me to pick you up instead?

Lennox: It's fine. Just wait for me there.

In a few minutes, I saw Lennox walking down the hallway. I raised my eyebrows at the sight, a bit startled at his presence.

He's really here!

Today, he wore a white button-up long-sleeve shirt and black trousers. It made him look more elegant and refined. Honestly, this is my favourite look of him. Although he still looks dashing while just wearing the usual t-shirts, it doesn't evoke the majestic feeling of what he currently wore.

When he finally reached me, he stared at me for a few seconds without saying anything.

Thinking that his behaviour is quite strange, I also just kept looking directly at his eyes before he turned away and finally spoke up.

As if he could not take it, he turned his gaze away and finally spoke.

"Are you feeling ok? You weren't hurt anywhere?"

I gave him a shy smile and shook my head a little. "Nope, I'm fine."

After I said that, Lennox let out relieved sigh. He looks pretty relieved.

Suddenly, without expecting it, Lennox reached out his arm and patted my head softly.

Even though it's just a small action, I don't know why my heart suddenly raced so fast. I feel like a teenage girl who received a small affection for the first time.

"Mmm. You did a good job." he said in a stern voice.

"Thanks." I replied softly.

I suppressed the sudden 'shy' feelings I had and took the opportunity to talk to him longer. However, just after a little chit-chat, the nurse attending the woman in the accident suddenly came out of the room.

"Miss Yu, the patient is already awake."

But then, she suddenly saw the man standing next to me and couldn't help but be in awe for a while. I smirked inwardly at her reaction. Lennox is really that good-looking, huh.

"Oh! Mayor Lennox, you're also here. I apologise for not saying my greetings earlier. You can go ahead and visit the patient with Miss Yu, if you'd like to." the nurse greeted Lennox, in a more enthusiastic tone compared to when she greeted me.

"Thanks." Lennox replied, giving her his usual polite smile.

The nurse led us in and let the woman and the child be aware of our presence. The child already knew me from earlier so he didn't show any reaction when I came in. However, he was startled a bit as he looked at Lennox, as if he was questioning his presence. On the other hand, the woman had a confused look on her face.

"Ma'am, this woman here is Miss Yu, she provided basic first aid for you and your kid earlier. She also already settled the bills for you. Then, Mayor Lennox is also here because he probably heard what happened. " the nurse said.

Upon seeing the woman become less confused, the nurse said a few words before leaving to call a doctor.

Lennox and I moved closer to the woman who was lying in bed, so we can talk to her properly. The child suddenly straightened up his sit upon seeing us closer and gave me a small smile before looking curiously at Lennox.

I was taken aback when a hand reached out my hand. It was the woman's hand.

My heart suddenly wrenched as I watched her pained expression. I could feel that she'd want to use both hands but unfortunately, she couldn't because she already lost one of her limbs...

"Thank you, Miss. Thank you for helping us earlier and also for bringing us here in this hospital. I don't know how I could thank you. Also, thank you, mayor, for gracing us with your presence here. I... I really couldn't thank you guys enough." the woman said calmly at first, before stuttering at her last words because of the tears that started to come out.

"It's... it's... just that, now, I don't know how I'm supposed to make a living anymore. I need both my hands to do my job at the sewing shop I work at and now..." she stared at her lost limb before finally evolving her small tears into a pained, loud cry.

Upon seeing his mother cry, the little boy who was sitting quietly next to the hospital bed let out his tears again.

"Sorry, mummy. Please don't cry. I'll pray really hard so you would get your arms back. Mummy, I'm sorry." the boy repeatedly said, crying with his mother.

Using her only hand, the woman patted the little boy and held one of his hands.

"What are you talking about, you have nothing to be sorry for. Mummy is fine." she tried to calm the little boy down as she lowered her sobs.

I feel pity for them and at the same time, I couldn't help but feel a bit envious. This pair of mother and child were really affectionate with each other and truly loved each other. Ignoring my complicated expression, I let out a bittersweet smile.

Then, I looked at the man next to me and observed his expression. His lips were tightly closed as he watched the mother and child. It would seem like he has a serious expression on but upon looking his eyes, you could feel the pity he had for the mother and child.

"Ma'am, please don't be distressed. I was told that you were a resident at La Coron City. We have job opportunities at the city hall and can arrange something for you there. Job opportunities at our city hall will not exclude anyone regardless of circumstances." he politely said to the woman with a reassuring smile.

Upon hearing Lennox's words, the woman was in awe before new tears streamed down her face again.

"Thank you, Mayor. You're really as good like what others have been saying. And again, thank you to you, Miss." the woman murmured between her sobs.

Hearing those words truly warmed my heart. I gave a small, genuine smile to that woman.

Lennox continued to talk to that woman, assuring her that he will do his best to help her as a mayor in the city she lives in.

Hmm...

He's really genuine to the people he serves, huh? It's quite amazing how we went all the way here, out of concern for his constituents.

But now that I think about it, going here actually boosts his public image, especially since the woman and child's accident apparently became viral. However, he didn't even bring any of his subordinates or much more, the media to cover the good will he's doing.

Just from that, he's miles ahead from the other hypocrite politicians in this country. Moreover, there's even bigger instances where he has shown his capability as a public servant.

Since I naturally follow his activities, I found that he already implemented a policy that would show the transparency of the city's budget. Along with that, he already started to make healthcare more accessible at the city hall.

Other cities would charge their residents for a simple check-up or even just a verification letter but it's all free in his city.

Other than that, they also give out free medicine and free relief goods every now and then. If I remember right, even though I'm not that experienced in politics, Lennox explained that the city budget actually has a lot of extra that 'magically' disappeared before when the previous mayor was still governing the city.

But now, with Lennox's governing, the money that the people worked for, actually went into beneficial projects meant for them.

Although his good governance was not as publicised as other politicians, I know that he's truly doing a good job. He doesn't need the media to showcase his good governance, since the people in the city he rules are already aware of the fact that he's a good leader.

All in all, he leads with empathy, resourcefulness, competence and courage. I guess, that makes him a pretty good man, huh?
