Chapter 416 - I Want to be a Start (1)

As the best child of the current Ren generation, Ren DongZhi had been doted on since the day that he was born.

His parents were always busy with work and he was brought up by his older brother, who treated him almost like his own child.

As a kid from the previous Ren generation had been kidnapped in the past, the Ren family had become very lowkey overall for the sake of protecting the children.

With the exceptions of a few banquets, they didn't bring the children out to a lot of places before their adulthood.

As the youngest son at home and having a very capable big brother above him priming up to be the heir of the family, the family didn't have a lot of expectations on Ren DongZhi.

They only wanted Ren DongZhi to grow up happily and healthily. They even followed his wish and allowed him to attend a regular school like an ordinary person.

During his junior high school years, Ren DongZhi had fallen ill and that had messed up his hormone secretions. That, on top of the fact that he enjoyed eating high-caloric food at the time, made him blow up like a balloon.

He had tried to lose weight but didn't have the will power. It resisted all but three minutes.

At the time, Ren DongZhi, like many boys his age, had a thing for Zhong Yi, the school's beauty queen.

There were two Zhong Yi's at the time. The one in Class #1 were pure looking, came from a good family, and was a true White, Rich and Pretty. She was voted the beauty queen at school and was referred to as the Big Zhong Yi.

Zhong Yi from Class #6 was young but her charm was already beginning to show. She was playfully referred to as the Little Zhong Yi.

Except that her beauty was too aggressive and, as such, easy to draw aggro for her. She developed well even by junior high school and was already shapely.

Many would have looks of contempt on them when talking about her. They called her a fox demon reincarnation and loved to seduce men. Half of the rumors about her were real and the other half weren't. None of them were positive. She was labeled as whore or bitch, etc.

Some said that she was mixed up with scoundrels outside of school and would bully other girls at school.

Some said that she loved stealing other's boyfriends and had other boys buy her stuff.

At the time, Ren DongZhi was in Class #5, neighboring Little Zhong Yi. He had run into Little Zhong Yi a few times in the past and his strongest impression about her was how bright and determined her eyes were.

He felt that she wasn't like how the others portrayed her to be but as he didn't really know her at the time, speaking up for her would only bring about mockery.

Even so, he still preferred Big Zhong Yi to Little Zhong Yi. The innocent and tender Big Zhong Yi fulfilled all of his imagination for his puppy love. It was said that she would save her own pocket money and buy food for stray cats and help injured students with their wounds. Much like a female lead in a novel, she was pure and nice.

Ren DongZhi's feelings would have been hidden inside of him forever except that their family business's headquarter was relocating and Ren DongZhi would be relocating with his family. He would have to transfer to a different school.

One way or another, he wanted to let her know his feelings for her.

Ren DongZhi wrote a love letter to Big Zhong Yi and had someone pass it onto her during sports day.

He was too nervous at the time and almost bit his own tongue. As such, he had forgotten to specify that he was talking about Zhong Yi in Class #1.

By the time he had recollected himself, Ren DongZhi quickly ran after his classmate. He wanted to see if his classmate had delivered the letter to the wrong person and always wanted to see Big Zhong Yi's reaction.

Even though he was fairly certain that Big Zhong Yi would not accept his profession of fondness toward him.

Chapter 417 - I Want to be a Start (2)

To his relief, his classmate handed the letter to the right person and his letter arrived safely in Big Zhong Yi's hand. Ren DongZhi pretended that he was resting while he sat on the stairs, waiting to see Big Zhong Yi's reaction.

Big Zhong Yi was the leader of the cheerleader team at the time and happened to be sitting under a tree and chatting and laughing with her friends. She seemed to have pink lipstick on her and her lips were a rosy color.

She was not surprised when she saw the love letter – she normally received quite a few everyday and they came from students both from their own and other schools.

"Who's it from?" She cocked her head and smiled slightly.

"Ren DongZhi from Class #5. He's fat."

Big Zhong Yi was taken aback a little and a resentful look flashed through her face. Her long and drawn-out tone suggested her dissatisfaction. "Oh, that fat pig. How disgusting to be liked by someone like him?"

Her expression was still innocent and cute but her words made Ren DongZhi's heart freeze.

Big Zhong Yi's friends were giggling with her. "Some people really had no idea where they stand. He should look into the mirror some time. Even a reacher shouldn't try to reach that far."

"You should just post this onto the announcement board so others can also see how thick his skin is."

Ren DongZhi balled his hands into fists and he was consumed by his anger. He stood up and was about to run up and rip the love letter out of Big Zhong Yi's hand.

The love letter, however, was taken away by fingers much slenderer than his.

Ren DongZhi followed the fingers to their owner and saw a delicate and charming face – the one belonging to Little Zhong Yi in Class #6.

Her face stern, making her appear even more cold and alluring. "Who said you are the recipient of this love letter? You are not the only Zhong Yi. I am Zhong Yi too."

She took the love letter from her, opened it up, read it, and snickered. "Yup. This letter is for me. It says here that I am glamorous like dawn clouds and dazzling like peony roses.

"Just look at yourself. Do you think this is talking about you?"

She put the love letter away, gave them a sideway glance and said, "A bunch of fools."

Big Zhong Yi was so angry that her face was twisted. She was unable to maintain her normal look.

Regardless, she was unable to say it out loud in front of this glamorous girl that she fit the description of "glamourous like dawn clouds". She could do nothing but watch Zhong Yi leave with the love letter.

"Shameless fox demon. She's perfect for that fat pig..."

She wasn't even done talking before she felt cold liquid coming down from the top of her head. Big Zhong Yi couldn't help but let out a shriek. She looked up again and saw the man she just called a pig looking at her expressionlessly. She had no idea how much he heard.

Big Zhong Yi was, after all, a girl in her teens. She couldn't help but feel a guilty conscience when she was caught red-handed badmouthing someone.

She had put up a good image in front of others and had always been national puppy love that represented what was pure, kind, and beautiful. She would only allow her true self to show in front of her friends.

Before she could come up with something to salvage the situation, Ren DongZhi had already taken off.

***

Ren DongZhi chased after Little Zhong Yi. He was just dumped thoroughly but he didn't feel too sad.

Perhaps it was because he realized that he was in love with a fake image that he had conjured up with his imagination. The real Big Zhong Yi was far from the person he had in mind.

"Don't worry. I will not post your love letter. I didn't read it either. I was just messing around with them," said Little Zhong Yi with a frown.

Ren DongZhi said, "I know you are not that kind of a person. I just want to say thank you."

Thank you for willing to stand up for him and protect whatever little self-esteem that he had with her white lie.

Zhong Yi paused a little and smiled lightly. "You are welcome."

Chapter 418 - I Want to be a Start (3)

Zhong Yi returned the love letter back to Ren DongZhi. "You need to learn to see things clearer next time and find that person that's worthy of your feelings." She paused a little. "You can try to lose some weight too. Is there the saying that every fat person has their potential? You have very nice features and will probably be a handsome one if you lose some weight. Many will like you."

Looking at how she was trying hard to comfort him, Ren DongZhi couldn't help but smile. "I really am not that upset. But thank you anyway."

He was right about her. She was nothing like how she was described in those rumors. Nicer than everyone else, in fact.

He wanted to do something for her before he left.

As Ren DongZhi was an easy going and generous person, he was well-liked in class. He had his friends help look into who were those people that had been bad mouthing Zhong Yi behind her back.

He wrote out the truth and posted them on the announcement board so the entire school would know what they truly were like.

Most students frowned upon behaviors like that and, once the incident blew up, the school had issued warnings to the few students who had gone the furthest.

By then, Ren DongZhi's family had already completed his transfer process.

He had wanted to meet up with Zhong Yi one more time before he left but Zhong Yi's spot was empty that day.

He asked another student and learned that Zhong Yi had taken a couple days off for family matters.

He was disappointed but he had to go, nonetheless.

***

Ren DongZhi started his weight-losing regime after he transferred to his new school. It took him a year to lose his extra weight and turn into the male god in others' eyes.

His handsome look made him popular in school. Many girls professed their love for him but he turned them all down.

He thanked them for liking him but he could not reciprocate their feelings.

"What kind of girl do you like? We can work hard to become the kind of girls that you like."

When asked by a schoolmate, Zhong Yi's face appeared in Ren DongZhi's mind. That very moment, he realized that he liked her.

Ren DongZhi looked for a time and returned to his original school, hoping to find out some information about Zhong Yi.

All he heard was that something had happened back home and that her grandmother, who was her only family member, was diagnosed with cancer. She had taken a period of time off to take care of her grandmother.

He spent some time on looking for her to no avail. He wasn't able to help her even if had wanted to.

He had no choice but to take off. That had become the biggest regret in his teenage years.

A few years had gone by when he saw Zhong Yi again. He read about her online.

It was said that she had worked at a club before.

She did not deny what was said in the slanders and insults but admitted to them openly. She had been adopted by Fang JunRong.

Many said that she was just damn lucky. And that they could do much better if they were her. Ren DongZhi only wanted to snicker at those bitter words – none of them could remotely measure up to Zhong Yi. He was happy to find out that Zhong Yi was finally able to run into a truly nice person after all of her obstacles.

When he found out that Zhong Yi and Li XinYun, Fang JunRong's daughter, were hosting a talent show, Ren DongZhi went to his uncle and asked to have related training.

He had shown talents in this area in the past and had written his own songs but never had any professional training.

"Uncle, I want to be a star."

***

When Zhong Yi and her sister Li XinYun started putting together the talent show, they were only doing it to drum up publicity for her sister's new company.

Their goal was to not lose money. Nevertheless, when Zhong Yi started seeing one after another young faces talking about their dreams in a determinant manner and how their eyes beamed when they talked, Zhong Yi started to feel bad for them.
