Chapter 359 - XinYun Was even Nicer to KuaiKuai After the Incident (1)

The other students were dumbfounded. Li XinYun's words were loaded.

She was blatantly suggesting that Zhang Meixia's cookies were problematic. What was going on?

Li XinYun said slowly. "You gave me the same kind of cookies yesterday for my birthday and I was going to eat them this morning."

"As it turned out, it had been sitting there for so long that my pet ate them when I wasn't looking and it fell ill immediately."

"So my mother sent the cookies to the laboratory to have them checked out."

She told everyone what she had found out while looking straight at Zhang Meixia. "Do tell, why did you send this to me?

"Do you hate me that much?"

All the other students were dumbfounded. Was Li XinYun telling the truth?

"Are you sure there wasn't some kind of misunderstanding?" That was their immediate reaction as they turned and looked at Zhang Meixia.

Being stared at by the others, Zhang Meixia broke out in cold sweat and stuttered, "I... I don't know what you are talking about."

The cops exchanged a look and one of them walked up to take the bag from her. They had thought previously that at most the drugs were hidden inside the bag. They didn't think it could be baked directly into the cookies.

Zhang Meixia screamed, "Don't touch my cookies!"

Her strong reaction gave her away.

A female cop stepped up and said, "Comrade, do not obstruct us in doing our job."

Zhang Meixia's eyes rolled and her face was filled with fear.

As reluctantly as she was, the cookies that she made were still taken away from her for analysis.

Her knees buckled. Falling down onto her knees, tears rolled down her cheeks and she whimpered.

Unfortunately, she had gotten her zero compassion from anyone around.

They were all angry thinking back how easily they would have eaten the cookies.

From what Li XinYun was saying, Zhang Meixia even gave some to Li XinYun as a birthday present. How evil was that?

Cheng Yan, one of the female students, was enraged.

"Why did you do that? Isn't XinYun a good friend of yours? What kind of a friend are you?"

Zhang Meixia knew that there was no point in denying it at this point.

The cookies were taken away from her. It was a matter of time before the laboratory result came back. "I didn't really think that much..."

All the other cops looked at her with complicated looks. She was so young and already so evil, trying to get her friends to do drugs in such a manner.

"I'm sorry. Really sorry. But I had no other options."

Li XinYun couldn't listen to her anymore. She took a step up and slapped her across her cheek.

She gritted her teeth and said, "Exactly what had I done to you that you had to get back at me in such a way?"

Zhang Meixia grabbed her hand reflexively but Li XinYun flung it off.

She looked at her coldly and said, "This is not over."

"Listen to me, XinYun. I... I didn't have any other choices."

Burying her face in her palms, Zhang Meixia started telling her side of the story while choking back her tears.

Zhang Meixia became a fan of an internet influencer a while ago and would donate money to him every day.

Every time the influencer thanked her in his sweet voice, she would feel like she was in love. The weightless feeling reeled her in and she donated more and more money to him.

She was spending her pocket money at the beginning but, when those were gone, she went and took out loans.

The amount went up as did the interest. By the time she realized what she was doing, she could no longer afford to pay them back.

She dared not tell her parents, worried that they would give her a beating. She even went to get a job at a club secretly, much like Zhong Yi had in the past. Unfortunately, what she made there could barely cover the interest and she had no idea how she would ever be able to repay the principal. That was when someone reached out to her.

They told her that as long as she could get Li XinYun, they would pay off both the principal and the interest for her and give her another lump sum of money on top of that.

Zhang Meixia struggled with that decision for a while but the person expressed that with XinYun's family, they could easily take care of this.

That had convinced Zhang Meixia to take action. She knew that XinYun always liked the cookies that she made so she took XinYun's birthday as her opportunity to move forward with her plan.

Chapter 360 - XinYun Was even Nicer to KuaiKuai After the Incident (2)

Zhang Meixia cried so much that her eyes had swollen up. "That person told me that with your mother's influence, even if you are thrown in jail, she will be able to get you back out."

"But if I don't do what I did, my life ends there." She even thought about committing suicide during her most desperate moment. She regretted a lot how she ended up spending so much money like she had completely lost her mind.

"You are still young. Even if your reputation had been tarnished, you can be easily forgiven if your attitude is sincere and carried out a few charity acts."

It had crossed her mind to ask Li XinYun for a loan but her pride finally stopped her. She didn't know others to find out how much she had borrowed. During their normal conversations in the past, she had always expressed how contemptuous she felt toward those who'd turn to loan sharks for money.

It was certainly faceslapping when it happened to her. She didn't think she even added that much. It would be a walk in the park for XinYun to quit in the future. She really wasn't as bad as they thought.

Li XinYun felt that she never knew this friend of hers. The way Zhang Meixia cried so righteously made her look like a stranger to her.

Li XinYun was so mad that she burst out laughing. "Oh, is that so? Is it okay to set me up because I am richer than you? You are naturally on the right because you are poor?"

"You could have asked me for a loan if money was what you needed. I would be willing to help you out. Nevertheless, you chose to set me up instead. You never considered me a friend, have you?"

"What you have done was illegal," said a female cop. "You can be sentenced to up to three years in jail for defrauding others into using drugs."

Zhang Meixia was stunned. More tears streamed down her cheeks. "XinYun, please forgive me. I don't know what I was thinking. Help me, please..."

"I don't want to go to jail." Zhang Meixia sobbed.

Her life would be ruined if she received a jail sentence. The thought of that sent a chill down Zhang Meixia's spine.

She regretted her actions now.

Mediation was out of the question. Not in this lifetime. Li XinYun was the one whose life was almost ruined.

She gave her mother a call and let her know of the incident.

Everybody else walked out of the police station with the exception of Zhang Meixia after they had provided their statements.

Cheng Yan looked at Li XinYun. She wanted to comfort her but she didn't even know where to start. Surely Zhang Meixia looked very pitiful but none of them could ask XinYun to forgive her.

Nobody wanted to be the person to ask someone else to be a saint. Nobody had expected that their fun event would have ended this way.

She struggled for a bit and finally said, "We are glad that you are alright."

Li XinYun lowered her eyes. "Yeah, our pet averted a catastrophe for me."

Looking at her, Cheng Yan felt that it wasn't easy being a rich person. They had to always be cautious about the malevolence from their competitors. Now they finally experienced first hand how evil these people could get.

Li XinYun tightened her lips a bit and said, "Sorry to have ruined your fun today."

"Don't say that. You are the biggest victim here."

"Yeah, who would have thought that Meixia would do such a thing?"

They had been schoolmates and known each other for years. Nobody was happy that such a thing had happened. Nobody else was in the mood to go back to karaoke so they parted ways.

Li XinYun, too, returned home.

Fang JunRong stroked her on her head and said, "We will need to examine everything that we eat going forward."

Looking sad, Li XinYun said, "I understand. Mom, who do you think could be behind this incident?"

"Let's wait for the cops to find out," said Fang JunRong.

Chapter 361 - XinYun Was even Nicer to KuaiKuai After the Incident (3)

Fang JunRong did have someone in mind. Such unscrupulous acts with no bottom line reminded her of someone – Zhang Bi. If it truly was him, he most likely would not have done it himself but through someone else.

Fang JunRong notified the police of that so they could start with Zhang Bi.

As luck would have it, they were able to arrest the person who provided the drugs to Zhang Meixia and, with some more digging, said person also exposed who he was working for and one layer after another, they were finally able to tie it back to Zhang Bi.

After Zhang Bi was arrested, they found a lot of drugs at his residence. After his reputation and his future were ruined, he was depressed and turned to drugs.

Possession of drugs and defrauding others of drug use was enough to sentence him.

Fang JunRong couldn't help but remember a saying: One neat family.

Zhang Bi expressed that he would like a meeting with Fang JunRong after his arrest.

Fang JunRong hesitated a little but finally went over to the police station. She, too, was curious about what Zhang Bi wanted to say to her.

She almost didn't recognize Zhang Bi when she saw him. He was horribly skinny, almost emancipated. His cheeks were almost gone and his eyes were a pale gray color. Zhang Bi had always been a bad man but he was also pleasing to the eyes. Now even his only strength was gone.

She looked at him coldly, "So what is it that you want to tell me?"

Zhang Bi's lips curved. "It is awful that your daughter is a drug addict, huh?"

Fang JunRong was a little surprised. It looked like Zhang Bi's information was not too up to date. He didn't know that XinYun did end up ingesting any of the drugs.

"Truth was I wanted to get at you and Jiang WenYu. Too bad I never had the opportunity so I had to look to your daughter as a target." The viciousness on his face was almost palpable when he talked about Jiang WenYu.

"You can blame Jiang WenYu for it all!"

He looked happy when he talked. He had lived his life like a zombie all this time while his enemies were going up and up. He had such hatred in him. He turned to drugs for relief but that plunged him into another abyss. He wanted to drag Fang JunRong and Jiang WenYu down with him but was never able to find the perfect opportunity to do so. As such, Li XinYun would just have to do.

Fang JunRong's lips twitched and she sorted out Zhang Bi's strange logic in a few seconds – He wanted her to place the blame on Jiang WenYu and then the two of them could go at each other? This person really wasn't all that smart.

She felt that her trip was an entire waste of time. Her voice was cold, "Your mother took all the blame herself for you and you had let her down."

Zhang Bi's eyes flickered when he heard about his mother but he said nothing.

"Let me tell you something else. XinYun did not eat any of the cookies and she is more than fine right now."

"All the work that you had put in and you had accomplished absolutely nothing. Now you are going to jail for that. You are the living testimony of a loser. Too bad you may not stay in the same prison as your mother and your grandfather. You would be able to have a family gathering in jail otherwise."

Zhang Bi was stunned and his eyes were short of popping out of his sockets. He mumbled, "That's impossible. How was that possible?!"

He refused to believe that.

Fang JunRong gave him one last distasteful look and left.

Zhang Meixia's parents found out what their daughter had done and tried to plead to Fang JunRong and Li XinYun over the next few days. XinYun was the victim and Zhang Meixia didn't actually succeed in her plans. If XinYun was willing to reconcile, Zhang Meixia could receive a lighter sentence and perhaps get away with just a fine.

Both Li XinYun and Fang JunRong saw eye to eye on this issue – whatever the law said. They would not forgive or mediate.

As far as Li XinYun was concerned, Zhang Meixia was a total stranger to her now.

As they stood firmly on the issue, Zhang Meixia's parents had no choice but to give up. They dared not blow the incident up. If the incident was blown up, there was no way the public opinion would be on their side and what their family had done would be known to the entire country. They would be talked about behind their backs.

In their mind, their daughter was now a lost cause. They would tell others that she went to study abroad in order to save face. Face was, after all, very important to them.

It took XinYun quite a bit of time to get over that and she was even nicer to Kuaikuai after the incident.
