Chapter 281 - Was This the Price that She Had to Pay to Take Su QinYing's Place (1)

"Junrong, I have been looking for you."

It was a loud and powerful voice. Fang JunRong turned a little and happened to see Chu Kuo, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, walking up to her. He was tall, stocky, and good looking. He seemed affectionate when he smiled. Chu Kuo had a good relationship with the president of Gaoyuan Corporation and Fang JunRong got her invitation through him. He was sort of someone on her side.

Fang JunRong smiled lightly. "Hi, President Chu."

Chu Kuo said excitedly, "Lao Liu said you brought with you an aged wild ginseng?" The one he referred to as Lao Liu was the president of Gaoyuan Corporation. As a benchmark of this field, Chu Kuo had seen many. That fact that the wild ginseng that Fang JunRong had brought with her had piqued his interest would enough to show how rare an item it was. Chu Kuo was so curious that he couldn't even wait till the appraisal session and must come and look for Fang JunRong in advance.

Fang JunRong's eyelid twitched a little. Chu Kuo looked to be such a gentleman. She never would have pegged him as an impatient person.

She nodded slightly and Chu Kuo immediately wanted to take her to the office so he could take a look at this wild ginseng.

"Lao Chu, you are, after all, the vice president of our chamber of commerce. Why you acting like you have never seen anything? Do you really think what she has would be better than our wild ginseng?"

It was a coarse voice that sounded like the speaker had sand in his throat. Fang JunRong turned around and recognized the speaker. It was Jia Hongyuan, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Herbs. He had been competing with Chu Kuo over the president position recently. The president of the Chamber of Commerce would, after all, be retiring a year from now. Jia Hongyuan's family was in the ginseng business and, in particular, was known for their cultivated ginseng.

As such, he was filled with confidence when he made that statement. What others thought of as rare wild ginseng was merely something he'd see day in and day out. As competitors, he would, of course, jab at Chu Kuo any chance that he got.

Chu Kuo had heard about it some from Lao Liu so Jia Hongyuan's instigating words did not upset him. Instead, he laughed and said to him, "Sure. You are the expert in this area. Why don't you come with us and help us appraise it?"

Fang JunRong said nonchalantly, "Thank you, President Jia."

Jia Hongyuan gave them a dubious look and said, "Why not? Show me this eye-opener too."

Then he followed Fang JunRong to the office. Jiang DeXian retrieved the red box that stored the wild ginseng. Everybody there couldn't help but gasped the moment the box was opened up in front of them. This wild ginseng was perfectly shaped and it's pearl bump was crazy huge. It's texture was dense and clear and its roots strong and thick. The entire plant was incredible looking and arguably a textbook case of a wild ginseng.

Chu Zuo pinched the root and, boy oh boy, was it strong or was it strong? His fingers had turned pink from pressing down on it hard.

Even though he was prepared for it, Chu Zuo was still shocked when he saw the wild ginseng, let alone Jia Hongyuan. Jia Hongyuan was so dazzled that he couldn't even look away from it. He mumbled, "Judging from its look, this has to be at least 200+ years old."

The Jia family had a precious 200-year-old wild ginseng at home and it was carefully cherished. Nevertheless, when compared to this one, their differences were striking. He even felt that Fang JunRong's one had mystical properties to it. He was a flexible person. He looked at Fang JunRong fervently and said, "Is this for sale? How does 15 million yuan sound?"

A treasure like this should, naturally, become part of his family's collection!

Fang JunRong was taken aback a little but, before she could even recollect herself, President Chu shook his head. "I'll pay 18 million yuan for it."

"How about 20 million yuan?" Jia Hongyuan continued to raise the price.

The corners of Fang JunRong's lips twitched and she didn't know what to make of it. "Sure. I'll sell it to you then."

She hadn't expected that she would make 20 million yuan from her trip today.

Jia Hongyuan let out a sigh of relief and cast a complacent look over at Chu Zuo, obviously happy that he was able to snatch it under his nose. As such, he was no longer disgruntled when he looked over at Fang JunRong. He now felt that this woman was much more pleasing to look at than Chu Zuo. He said in a friendly manner. "Just let me know if you need any help today. I am a generation above you. You can refer to me as Uncle Jia."

"I just might have favors to ask in the future." Fang JunRong, too, took the olive branch that he sent her way. There were, after all, no permanent enemy in business.

Jia Hongyuan went over to the other room to give him family a call and had them had the money ready. A wild ginseng like that was too rare. He would hate to miss out on the opportunity.

Fang JunRong was just about to tell Chu Zuo that she had more wild ginseng that she could sell to him when he said to her, "You should thank me. You were able to make 5 million yuan more because I raised the price for you."

Fang JunRong couldn't help but smiled. As it turned out, President Chu had no intention of purchasing the ginseng from the get-go.

"Lao Jia might be a little bit on the power-hungry side, and sometimes had a sharp tongue, but he knows what he is doing and never goes back on his words. You would not need to worry about him being an obstacle for you in the future with the favor you've given him today."

Fang JunRong felt a warm current through her heart. "Thank you, Uncle Chu."

Chu Zuo was looking at her in a much more tender way now. "We should be the ones thank you. After all, we don't have the daring and resolution to just give away such precious herbal formulas." The White Jade Cream and Detoxification Pills had benefited countless individuals. Chu Zuo was very willing to reach out an olive branch to Fang JunRong just for that alone.

A saying occurred to Fang JunRong. Those who were on the right path would receive more help than those who were not. That described her current state quite well.

Jia Hongyuan was quite happy after he had made the call. He looked friendly even when around Chu Zuo, his all-time rival. All of a sudden, these two archenemies were unusually harmonious around each other today for a change. When the three of them appeared in front of the others, many were stunned. Then they looked at Fang JunRong, who seemed to fit in very well among them. They couldn't help but put her up on an even higher pedestal.

Fang JunRong wasn't aware of what was going through the other individuals' minds. With both presidents by her side, she had become the shiniest start of the night.

All of a sudden, she spotted a familiar person. It was Su QinYing. Er, Su QinMei to be precise. She, too, had been invited to the event today. It sort of made sense. After all, her maiden family was also in the herb-related industry.

"Excuse me. I am going over there to say hi," said Fang JunRong to the two presidents as she walked toward Su QinMei.

"Madam Su."

Su QinMei, who had just walked inside the venue, turned and saw Fang JunRong immediately. She took a step back reflexively and forced a smile on herself. "Ah, if it's not Madam Fang."

Looking at Su QinMei, Fang JunRong smiled suddenly.

"Speaking of, looking at Madam reminded me of your little sister who had passed away."

An unease flashed past Su QinMei. "Do you know my sister QinMei?"

"I went to my reunion not too long ago and someone there was an acquaintance of your little sister. She mentioned something about her to me. I feel so unjust for you," said Fang JunRong.

Su QinMei's lips trembled a little. "What did they all say?" She had a very conflicted look. She wanted to find out what was said but she was also worried that she would hear something negative from Fang JunRong. She did not retain much of what had happened from her college days.

"They said that your sister might look fragile but was actually very cunning. She would honey coat her maliciousness and that she must have died young because heaven had seen enough and decide to remove this disaster from mankind."

Su QinMei face turned red, mainly from anger. "You are lying! My sister is the best girl in this world. Why would you want to speak so poorly of someone who is already dead?"

Her words were shaking by the time she got to "already dead".

Fang JunRong shook her head. "You can look at a person and not always know what is going through their mind. You had no idea how much evil acts that your sister had committed behind your back. She had always created the image that she was being bullied and suggested to others that you had been bullying her." Fang JunRong came up with those judging from Su QinMei's personality.

Su QinMei bit her lower lip and felt a little bit of guilty conscience the same time she was angry. Those did sound like something that she might have done in the past.

"You have always been so nice to your sister and had always defended her. She on the other hand, was envious of you and always badmouthed you. She had always wanted to take over anything that belonged to you."

Su QinMei felt her body waving back and forth and the redness in her lips were gone. Unfortunately, there was nothing that she could say. Everything that Fang JunRong had said sounded like something that she would have done when she was younger.

Judging from her look, Fang JunRong had an idea that what she had made up turned out to be true. She could only chalk that up to the fact that one could commit any kind of evil act when one was ill-intentioned.

"I mean, she was way less talented than you were yet she refused to work hard. All she ever wanted to do was to badmouth you behind your back. Your health suffered because you were feeling bad for her. Was that worth it? She really should have looked into the mirror and get a good idea of what kind of person she really was. Wasn't it normal for someone with such an ugly inside to not have any friends?"

"Your second son is talented, alright, but doesn't remotely measure up to you when you were young. Luckily, Wenyu had inherited your talent and will, most certainly, be able to exceed your accomplishments in the future. How lucky are you to have a son like him?"

Su QinMei gritted her teeth hard and only wish she could rush up and tear up Fang JunRong's mouth. But she couldn't do that because she was Su QinYing now. It was not her place to fight back. She had no choice but to swallow up everything that she had wanted to say and that was an awful feeling. Especially when Fang JunRong kept on praising that tramp's son while talking down about her own precious son.

"She's already deceased. You can stop badmouthing her now." That was all Su QinMei could come up with to say after a long while in order to stop Fang JunRong from continuing bashing her.

Fang JunRong nodded, "I know. But I am a very straightforward person and I can't stand the thought of you being bullied by her. Not to mention that you are Wenyu's mother. Which was why I must let you know even if that makes me a bad person. I hope I didn't offend you."

Su QinMei forced a smile on herself; one that looked worse than a crying face. "Of course not. I appreciated it."

How ridiculous was that? Fang JunRong had practically pointed straight at her nose and bashed her from head to toe and she had to thank her for being so wonderful?

Was that the price that she had to pay for becoming Su QinYing?

Su QinMei launched into a sort of a frenzy state. She only wished she could pick up a needle and sew Fang JunRong's babbling mouth shut. Fang JunRong, on the other hand, masked everything under the disguise of being nice to her. She would not stop badmouthing Su QinMei and was short of labelling her the #1 villainous green tea of all times.
