Saturday had finally come after a very eventful Friday night. The Aggies won their homecoming game, there were celebrations all over, none of which Kari attended. She was mentally drained after the game, so she texted Khi a congratulations message, and she told him if he was feeling good to stop by so she could tell him in person—and he did just that, at 1 in the morning.

"Mekhi," she hissed as she stood at her door smiling lazily. "It is one o'clock in the morning!"

"You told me come," he chuckled, and she knew he was tipsy. "I ain' see you after the game,"

"I know, I was tired. I just wanted to tell you congratulations, Pop. You did such a good job out there, I'm proud," she nodded and his smile grew bigger. "Stop smiling like that you weirdo," she teased and he laughed loud, making her slap a hand over his mouth—she didn't have time to deal with her cranky RA.

After the way her mind was spinning at the game, the way he was just staring down at her now, at 1 am, wasn't helping her. "Thank you for coming," he said quietly, finally getting the hint.

"You know I wouldn't miss it," she shrugged. "Somebody gotta be there to calm your ass down," she joked and he just smirked, shaking his head. "Now go home and go to bed, take an alka seltzer or something tomorrow, don't have Trae taking care of yo' ass,"

"Yeah yeah," he chuckled. "Gimme hug, I'm finna leave," he opened his arms and she almost hesitated walking into them, because he was already the more affectionate of the two, and when he was drunk it was much worse, she didn't know if she could handle too much more of him today.

But she did, knowing he was liable to complain. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, and swung her side to side dramatically, immediately causing her to try to squirm out of his tight grasp.

"Khi get off!" she smacked his arms and he laughed, letting her go. "Goodnight, you gon give me a damn headache,"

"Love you, Tutu," he smiled childishly.

"Love you too, Pop. Now leave," she pointed and he laughed, walking back downstairs where Traveon and Tae were waiting.

After that, she closed her door, standing with her back resting against it, smiling for a good minute, and then ranted to herself about how this wasn't some sitcom and took herself to bed.

She of course kept her revelation to herself, her first thoughts were to call her sister—then her mom, but she decided against it, knowing what they'd both say.

Sakari couldn't afford to tell him. She didn't even know how. He was one of the only people who always understood her, who always accepted her for who she was and never tried to change her to fit his idea of who she should be. He cared about her, and not just because of the things she did for him—she knew he appreciated her as a person, as a friend, no matter how mean she could be, he loved her anyway.

And the thought that it could all go away over a crush that evolved into something completely new was scary. The thought of having to navigate through life without Khi was scary. She played through the options in her head, she weighed out the consequences and the reward, this was the safe option. This would help her keep her best friend.

"Sakari! What are you thinking about?" Jelani tapped her and she whipped her head around to see her fully dressed and made up for the Halloween party. It had started already, but they were riding with Khi and Trae, so of course they were late.

"Sorry, I zoned out, what happened?" she wondered, pulling the socks for her costume on. Her wig had come in and so she decided to go as Chucky. Her makeup was done and so was her hair. Her outfit looked cute, and she was ready to go.

Jelani was a very pretty Harley Quinn, and Aja, who was singing to herself in the mirror at the moment was Kim Possible, but 'grown' as she put it. The girls looked good, they'd already taken a million pictures together.

Soon enough, Mekhi's text that he was downstairs came through, and the girls made sure they had everything before going down. Upon greeting the boys, Sakari didn't miss how Trae was staring at Aja, subtly to most—but since last week she was way more aware.

"Sakari!" she heard as she grabbed her lunch. She turned her head with a mug, fully prepared to fuss, but her expression softened when she saw Traveon and Dontae approaching her. She waved and Trae waved back, while Tae nodded his head in her direction.

"Hey T, what's wrong?" she wondered.

"Nothing—I was just wondering about your friend," he trailed off suggestively, causing her eyebrows to jump up.

"I only have like 5 friends, two of them are you and Khi," she chuckled and he shook his head. "So, which friend? I know you know her name," she smirked.

"Aja," he said after a brief pause. "She's beautiful man, she seem kinda shy but, I'on know I wanna get to know her," he confessed.

"I'm saying this because I care—right now, she's not gonna give you the time of day, she's just been getting over a breakup, tryna work on herself," Kari explained.

"Who says I can't help her get over it?" he smirked.

"Traveon please," she laughed. "Seriously, I mean if you wanna try that's on you, but she's pretty focused on herself,"

After that conversation, when Aja would come around, Trae would speak, and attempt to spark conversations with her. It usually worked, but all of his flirting fell flat—which he wasn't at all used to.

"Hey y'all," Khi spoke. "Lemme see yo costume Tootie," he spoke as she walked. She stopped so he could see, and a grin spread on his face.

"What?" she chuckled.

"This fits too well," he laughed. "You? Chucky?! It's perfect. The fake knife too? Yeah it fits,"

"Okay, not too much," she giggled. "I'm not that mean—and who are you supposed to be?," she immediately ended the conversation before he had time to make a rebuttal about her being mean.

"You can't tell?!" he asked incredulously, pulling his shirt up she could see, and when she saw the fake tattoo she laughed, getting it. He was Tupac, and Trae was Biggie Smalls.

"Y'all cute!" Aja laughed. "Lemme take a picture, pose," the girls all agreed, pulling their phones out to take pictures of the two.

After the small shoot of the boys, they piled back in Khi's car, on the way to the party. Kari was ready to enjoy herself.

Once they finally got there, the girls met up with Amber, and Dontae joined everyone, as well as another one of their teammates.

"Okay! I got you two," Jelani grinned, she and Amber bringing back shots for everyone.

"Uh—two? What is this?" she asked over the loud music, sniffing it. "Ooh! That's strong," she immediately jerked her head back.

"It's tequila," Amber chuckled.

Her eyes widened, and she stared at it a little longer before throwing the two shots back before she could stop herself.

"Period!" Aja clapped, taking hers next. This was the first time in a while Kari had seen her having such a good time—she was honestly glad she came.

A handful of shots and a drink later, Sakari was feeling much looser. She was dancing with her friends, taking pictures with them and waving her fake knife around, making her friends laugh.

She swag surfed with Khi, also dougied with him, shocked they even played teach me how to dougie, and hers was nasty, as well as his. They used to win money at family functions for dancing together, and now that she was drinking and with her friends she was deep in her element, and Khi was so glad she was having a good time.

Right now, they were in the living room of whoever's house this was, singing along to the song that was currently on, when the beat changed.

'Ayy Ladies' by Travis Porter sounded loudly throughout the house, and the liquor that was in her system had Sakari very excited.

"Okay now ladies—" was yelled as girls all over did exactly what the song said, bending over and moving along to the beat, Sakari being one of them, with cup in hand, tongue sticking out of her mouth, as her friends either joined her or cheered her on.

Jelani was the one dancing with her, while Aja encouraged their behavior, pulling Kari's dress down when it started to come up.

'Freak Hoe' came on next, and Sakari had to put her cup down for that one, placing both her hands on her knees and changing pace to the beat of the song.

"Yes ma'am!" Aja clapped, laughing.

"Period, bitch!" Jeli gassed, smacking her butt as she stuck her tongue out and dropped down like she was Meg herself.

On the other side of the room, Khi was leaned against a wall, while he got danced on. He honestly wasn't sure who it was, it was dark, he could barely see who the girl was. The LED's were set to red, and they did not help him see at all.

"Nigga Kari over there going fuckin' crazy," Dontae laughed, approaching them with cups.

"Kari?!" he asked incredulously. "Like...Sakari?" he repeated just to make sure and Tae nodded, taking a sip. Khi knew she said she was gonna try to make sure she had a good time, but he had no idea what that entailed after they'd separated.

"Well shit, I'an never seen that," Trae laughed, staring to walk over to where he last saw the girls at. Khi couldn't help but follow, and shocked was an understatement. "Oh damn," Trae said.

"I told you!" Tae laughed. "Fuckin it up,"

Kari was in her own world, she didn't even realize how much she had to drink. She was genuinely enjoying herself with her small group of friends and in her drunken state she thought maybe she could do this more often. Making up for the house parties she missed in high school, the kickbacks—all the spontaneous adventures. She could really see herself doing it now, and she knew her friends would be more than happy to do it with her.

She was so into her own mind, she didn't notice somebody had gotten behind her. Jelani's face changed, and that's when she felt the presence—and pressure of a man standing behind her while she danced.

Back where Khi was, he raised his eyebrows, because he knew who that was, and he didn't like him at all. 'He' was Brandon Thomas, an older player on the team and he was famously known for hurting women emotionally and toying with more than one of them at once, usually younger, and he'd let a lot of things happen before he let him get to Sakari and hurt her too.

The song was almost over, so she didn't move, but once he gripped her hip—which he could do easily with his much larger hand, she started to stand back up. She despised being touched roughly or manhandled, and she wasn't about to let a stranger do it.

Khi saw too, and started to take a step over, ready to make a scene at any time.

Once she stood straight, the alcohol hit her like a ton of bricks, and she actually stumbled, the guy who danced with her just watching her with a smirk on his face. She curled her lip up ready to curse at him loudly before she felt a tap to her shoulder.

Her equally drunk friends stood beside her, thinking they could help her stay straight, but they all started laughing at each other for looking drunk, and ended up losing balance anyway.

"Girl—you drunk as hell," Aja giggled, pointing at Jelani.

"Me?! No, Sakari," she gestured backwards, and Kari wasn't even paying them attention. "Lawd, she found her man,"

"Look! It's Khi," she smiled wide, waving at him from where he was, and he laughed, calm now that her friends were with her and he was gone, and started waving back. "He's so cute," she pouted.

"Okay! Time to sit down," Aja laughed again. They knew that would never leave her mouth sober. "Let's go sit, baby,"

Kari nodded along with a smile on her face and ventured over to the kitchen with her friends. She bopped her head to the beat of the song, finishing off the drink in her hand, deciding that was probably enough, since she could barely stand straight up.

"You done, Karibear?" Jeli cooed to her, and Kari nodded with a small smile. "You want me to find Khi so we can go?" she wondered.

"If y'all wanna leave sure," she spoke. "If you wanna stay I-I can stay," she hiccuped.

"I'm tired too—and I'm kinda seeing twos," Aja giggled.

"Girl, doubles?" Jeli laughed. "You drunk bitches. Lemme go get Mekhi,"

They both nodded, Kari leaning her head on Aja's shoulder, and Aja leaning her head on Kari's head.

She'd never been drunk before—just tipsy. This was different, she felt it mostly in her head, she was light and heavy at the same time, she didn't know what was going on but she enjoyed it.

"Ima do this more often," she spoke out loud with a giggle, making Aja laugh too—not even knowing why she was laughing.

On her way over to where she saw Khi standing, she saw Amina and Amber talking to him as well. There were a lot of other athletes over there, but she didn't recognize them at all, just those three. She constantly forgot all of Khi's friends names too.

"Mekhi!" she interjected. "Excuse me y'all," she smiled innocently.

"Wassup?" he chuckled.

"Kari tired, and she drunk as hell," she laughed. "I mean fuck, me too, but it's her first time so sis is gone," she explained and he nodded along.

"She ready to go?" he asked and Jelani nodded. "Bet, Ima fuck wit' y'all," he said to the people he was talking to. Jelani snickered to herself seeing Amina's face drop.

They walked back to where Kari and Aja were sitting, and they were now singing along loudly to the Drake song playing on the speakers and Mekhi busted out laughing, catching Sakari's attention.

"Khi!" she grinned.

"Hey Tootie," he smiled. "You feel okay? Sleepy?" he wondered, offering his arm to her and stretching the other out in case Aja wanted help standing as well. They both took one arm and hoisted themselves up, ready to follow him to his car. Trae joined them now, just making his way through the crowd, and they all made their way out.

On the car ride back, Khi realized that the girls really were pretty messed up, so he decided he'd help them upstairs, of course Trae agreed. They definitely didn't want anything bad happening.

They finally made it to the apartment, and Trae made Aja and Jeli hold his hands like toddlers while they walked to the room. Sakari just laughed, while Khi draped his arm across her shoulders, leading her up too.

They were all sure to be as silent as possible, thanks to Sakari's loud shushing and Khi shushing her right after.

They finally made it in, and Aja didn't miss a beat before dropping into the bean bag chair.

"Aht aht!" Khi said before Sakari could do the same thing. "Wash your face off Ashanti and put on some different clothes,"

"I'm sleepy!" she protested.

"I didn't ask you that," he chuckled.

This reminded him of the first time he ever got this drunk, this was the same exact predicament—but reversed. Sakari was the one making sure he changed and drank water, made sure he was okay, it felt good to be that for her this time around. Although, it was way funnier seeing her show so much emotion at once.

"Help me," she huffed. He looked over to see Trae struggling to get Aja to sit upright because the way she was laying looked like it hurt, and Jelani was already wiping her face with makeup wipes very vigorously, so he figured he had time to kill.

He asked her where her pajamas were, and handed her some shorts and a t-shirt, making her go change in the shared bathroom—luckily the girls had a suite this year or she'd be stuck changing right here.

Once she was done, she climbed into bed—face still full of makeup, and went to lay down before Khi grabbed her arm. "I put pajamas on, Khi," she sighed.

"Jelani lemme see," he held his hand out for the makeup wipes and she lazily tossed them his was. "You still got this damn makeup on, sit still," he said, taking one out and swiping at her face, and she let him, eyes closed.

"You had fun, huh?" he asked her, to keep her up.

"Yes! It was so much fun, can we go out again soon? You should have seen me, Khi I was dancing and all that! It was crazy Pop,!" she grinned.

"I saw you, Tootie," he chuckled. "I'm glad you had a good time, we can go out whenever you want to,"

"Okay, tomorrow," she nodded.

"Maybe not tomorrow," he laughed.

Once he was done, she opened her eyes back and thanked him. He looked back down at her, meeting her eyes, making her heart swell up a little. She was feeling all her usual emotions towards him times ten, especially since her self discovery at the game yesterday, she felt like everything was coming to a peak right now.

"Khi," she said, holding on to his shirt.

"Wassup, Tutu? You wanna go to—"

"I love you, bubba," she said sincerely, and he smiled wide.

"Bubba? You haven't called me that since 6th grade," he chuckled.

It was true, for whatever odd reason, Khi and Kari wanted to have their own nicknames for each other when they were 12, not the ones everyone else called them. So, Sakari chose to call Khi Bubba, but he wasn't creative enough to think of his own so he just called her Bubba too.

That didn't stick for long.

"I love you too, Bubba," he replied back.

"I'm for real," she said, and across the room, Jelani's eyes were wide open.

"So am I, you know that," he said. "Wh—why you crying?! What I do?" he panicked.

"Nothing, I just—I dunno," she shrugged, but she knew exactly what it was. So did Jelani. Hell, even Trae picked up on it standing all the way at the door.

"You an emotional drunk just like me," he chuckled. "Get some sleep, Tootie. Ima come pick you up tomorrow if you feeling aight," he kissed her forehead and she just nodded, laying straight back on her pillow, suddenly not so tired anymore.

"He's didn't get it," she mumbled to herself, her light sniffles bouncing off the walls once Khi and Trae were finally gone. "He's never gonna get it,"
