My demons though quiet, are never silenced. Calm as they may be, they wait patiently for a reason to wake, take an overdue breath, and crawl back to my ear...

     .Ravenna.

"How was the trip?" Jenna grins at me as I pull my luggage into the house.

"Fine, not that you care," I respond, trailing towards the stairs. "Where's my father?"

"Beats me." She shrugs, stirring towards the TV.

My bags follow me up the stairs in a heated fashion. I find myself slumping on to my bed when I'm finally in my room. So, packing a bunch of books for a short cabin trip isn't advisable. Got it.

The trip had to be cut short to this night. Sunday's night. We were going to be back in school tomorrow and the whole dance thing on Wednesday was just something else we were meant to look forward to. I shake off my boots and climb higher into bed, my hair matted to my face with sweat. It doesn't take me too long before I drift off, drowning myself into a whole different world.

                              ×××

I stick with the school's hoodie and thigh long socks today. We were approaching Thanksgiving and the weather wasn't being subtle about what month we were in anyway. I had gotten up too early and had about thirty minutes to spare before students actually started getting into school. My trail to the kitchen is sluggish and carefree as I head for the refrigerator. I pause, realizing I had almost missed the individual sitting at the small table. Pivoting, I catch a hint of blonde hair, almost properly tanned skin and a pair of electric blue eyes, staring at me.

"And who the hell are you?" I tsk, raising a brow.

"You must be Trent's daughter. I'm Kaitlyn." She introduces herself to me with a huge grin. I had a suspicion with people who smiled too much. My eyes narrow as I take in her appearance. She looked almost my age.

"And why are you in my house, Kaitlyn?"

"I'm here most days," she shrugs and I stare at her with horror. "So is my mom, you must know her. Your uniform..."

"You're Ella's screwing daughter." I groan out, coming to the realization. I should have realized that from the blonde hair. Blue eyes must have been from the daddy that's not my daddy.

"Are you allowed to cuss like that?" She scrunches up her face, glaring at me.

"Baby girl, I'm allowed to do anything I fucking want." I smirk, leaning against the counter with crossed arms.

"That's cool. Will you be attending the wedding then?"

"Wedding? Who's getting married?" I scoff.

        "Our parents, of course,"

In that moment, if I'd been ingesting, consuming, inputting any type of food–liquid? Solid?–Into my system, I'd gag it right up, spit it out or choke on it because I sure as hell didn't sign up for a wedding between my father and the woman who's meant to be my principal, and nothing but my principal.

"Are you hurt?" Kaitlyn suddenly asks me, switching the conversation. I gaze at her puzzled. Hurt? If she meant about the fact that our parents were getting married so they could have a better reason to fuck each other, then no, I wasn't hurt. I was pissed. "You've got a red bruise, right over there."

She taps a side of her neck with her index finger. My hand swiftly reaches up to touch mine and I fail in feeling any sort of pain at the contact. I pull out my phone, trying to get a better look at what she was referring to and that's when I see and realize it. The asshole had been so clever in giving me a hickey and keeping the others quiet about it.

        "That's not a bruise."

"Then what is it?" She blinks rapidly at me, genuinely curious to know what the red mark was.

"How old are you?" I find myself asking. She couldn't be a teenager and be so curious about a hickey. It's a freaking love bite or whatever them nerds call it.

         "Sixteen,"

I was just a year older. That made me feel kind of superior.

"My brother, Ethan is three years older than I am though." She adds.

I pause, lifting a brow. She had an older brother? So much for feeling superior.

"Raven?!" My father gazes at me in surprise, trailing into the kitchen in a black suit. "You're still home."

"I was just doing some catching up with my soon to be step sister," I shrug, pulling my back pack to myself. "She informs quite excellently well."

"Morning Trent. You have such a beautiful daughter." She warms up to my father with the same huge smile she had greeted me with.

"Thank you Kaitlyn." He clenches his jaw but doesn't stop himself from accepting the compliment.

"Well, I'm off to school," I announce, reaching for an apple in the bowl of fruits. "Oh and Kaitlyn, honey? It's called a hickey." I grin and don't miss the horrific look on my father's face as I let out that piece of information. I swagger out of the house with a huge smile on my face. Even when I knew my father was going to be getting married to my principal and I was unnecessarily going to be getting step siblings, I didn't mind too much because getting to see him everyday beats that.

       "Hey, morning–"

"You asshole!" I interrupt Klaus' cheery greeting, shoving him against the rows of lockers closest to our first class. "You gave me a freaking love bite!"

He scoffs rolling his eyes. "Did you just say love bite?"

"I meant hickey! You know what I'm talking about!"

"Who pointed it out?" He chuckles when my grip on him loosens.

      "Kaitlyn."

"Who the heck is Kaitlyn?" He shrugs, adjusting his shirt.

"My soon to be step sister." I reply with a huge grin even when I completely hate the idea of having siblings.

He pauses, pivoting to look at me. "You can't be serious..."

His brow lifts, hinting towards the whole marriage concept and I nod to confirm his thoughts. "Yep. My father is getting a permanent coupon to screw our principal."
