It was getting difficult for Alex to concentrate on work.

The sight of pain and raw hatred he had witnessed in Kate's eyes refused to leave his mind.

It had been the truth, she said, and he hated to admit it even to himself that he had, indeed, cheated on her as well. It had been a drunk mistake, but it was what it was.

He was still married to Kate, damn it!

He broke the pen between his fingers in two pieces as his blood boiled in anger, directed to fucking everyone in his life—even to himself.

But then, suddenly, a different kind of feeling began brewing inside him. No, it was not hatred towards Kate or irritation towards himself and his current situation. It was far more severe than that or anything he had ever experienced. It strangely felt like somewhere, something very wrong was happening, something utterly terrible. As though a vivacious storm was approaching and fast, its destruction far more massive than when Kate had broken his heart. His heart tugged brutally, and he felt this intense panic gripping at his entire being out of nowhere, as though he was losing his very breath - he was just unaware how.

It was an instinct of upcoming doom that he could not precisely specify.

His secretary, Tina's head slipped in through the slightly ajar door of his office. She called him thrice but drowned in his disturbing thoughts, Alex failed to notice.

"Mr. Leon! Sir."

It was only when his name was almost screamed that he looked up, his fingers bleeding from the sharp edges of the broken pieces of the pen. He could feel the blood trickling down but yet had to take a look at it.

"I told you not to disturb me for the next hour," he commented gravely from behind the desk.

Tina flinched from the door. "It's just to let you know that two of our clients have canceled their appointments today. Oh, your hand's bleeding. Should I bring first aid?"

"No need for it," Alex huffed.

"Who're they?" he asked for the clients' names, feeling annoyed. The company was already speeding towards bankruptcy. In this situation, people not taking work seriously was unacceptable. "Don't they know it's the weekend tomorrow, and they'll have to wait for a whole day to get an appointment again? I thought you said all the meetings today are crucial, are they not?"

"Sir, Mr. Hojo has just gotten into a car crash, and Mr. Victor is in the hospital with his business partner."

No sooner had she finished the sentence than Alex felt his body stiffen in attention.

Victor's business partner.

That meant Kate?

His head snapped up, and before he knew it, he had already roared out, "What happened to Kate?"

He sprang up to his feet while Tina gave him a curious look.

"I don't know. Should I contact Mr. Victor and inquire?" she asked.

"No," Alex barked. He had begun pacing back and forth in front of the floor-to-ceiling tinted window of his office. "Just know the name of the hospital they're in and tell me at once."

If possible, Tina's brows raised higher in curiosity at her boss's weird reaction to Victor's business partner's hospitalization news. She nodded nevertheless and left to complete the task she was given.

Alex, on the other hand, dug holes in the floor of his office with his continuous pacing, a deep frown of worry and fear marring his face.

Just one thought, a primal requisite, possessed him. He needed to see her.

Bloody now.

--

Kate sat propped up on the hospital bed with a pillow behind her back. She stared out the window dutifully, feeling Victor's unmoving stare scorching her skin.

"It's wrong."

Her face snapped towards Victor as he suddenly spoke, his eyes narrowing and voice reprimanding. Confused, Kate creased her brows.

"The way you're thinking," Victor continued. "Is entirely wrong, Kate."

"So you can read thoughts now?" Kate kept a nonchalant face, trying to be playful.

"It's quite obvious, seeing the lack of any fear on your face," Victor sighed and shook his head in frustration. "It's like you're uncaring with the news of this fatal illness of yours. Am I right?"

Kate only exhaled a long and shaky breath. "It's not like — me caring — will be the cure."

"Everything will be alright, Kate." Victor's eyes filled up with tears of protest. "Just know that I and even that crazy head Ellie who I saw a while ago crying behind a pillar—we're here with you always. So, don't you lose hope, ever? Just—keep fighting. You'll survive it, damn it!" And he leaned forward to hug Kate, which she reciprocated immediately. She needed this as hell.

Sometimes, when in helplessness, it's magical what a simple hug can do.

However, what she did not say was that a part of her, a massive part of her, was tempted to sigh in relief for the upcoming doom. That part of her was greedy for a respite and the chance of an ultimate release from all feelings and memories.

Now that she was diagnosed with this cancerous tumor in her brain, she knew that soon she'd be bound to the bed with all the treatments, operations, and chemos and medicines the doctor had informed her about. And since then, she had been wondering about the possibility of her application to adopt Owen getting rejected because of this reason.

Owen could have been her way to a new beginning. But probably, it had become a concrete fact that there was nothing called a new beginning in her fate. What she could have were only bits and pieces. Of love, of Alex. Of her lost child, Owen.

Maybe she was destined for misery—in life. Shouldn't she be thankful then that God was finally giving her a chance to let it all go, even if it meant—in death?

Some people may call her thoughts sick and suicidal. She, however, would like to call it - letting fate be.

But then, she thought of these obstinate friends of hers. One crying on her shoulder here, and the other was sobbing behind a pillar outside somewhere. She concentrated on them instead of her greedy thoughts.

"Thanks, Victor," she smiled shakily, her hand weakly patting his stiff back. "Thanks," she repeated in a whisper.

She needed to gather herself, and her friends, and do something about these tears.

He and Ellie kept saving her more than physically, and they saved her every day. She would be forever indebted to these two.

--

Alex stood stiff, staring through the round glass of the door.

Pain, bitterness, jealousy—it all embraced his mind and heart again. He was surprised that even after knowing of Kate's truth and her betrayal, he was still capable of hurting to this extent, far worse than last time.

He wanted to rip Victor off of Kate and kill that scoundrel there and then. His fists clenched to his sides, and he whirled around the next second, exhaling an agonizing sigh.

When would the love for her be emptied from his heart? When! Because it had become a torture he could bear no more.

Breathing heavily, he stormed down the corridor and out of the hospital. He halted to a stop before his car at the parking and held the sleek roof of it for support. His shoulders slouched in defeat.

Alex had the urge to turn around as he calmed his mind and hunt the doctor to inquire about Kate's health. But clearly, Victor here was taking care of her quite well. She didn't need him. Whatever had happened to her, an out-of-hand fever or flew, or problems with BP or something else - Alex decided that he would investigate it indirectly and later, just like he had about Kate's whereabouts in the city.

No need to make a fool out of himself any further by showing he still cared.

But hasn't he already made a fool out of himself by flying down here the moment he heard about her being in the hospital?

Coming here was a mistake.

But Kate still is his wife!

A wife who's in the arms of another... always in the arms of another, for whom Alex has never been bloody enough.

He fished out his phone from his suit's pocket hastily, and it was a not well-thought-out decision, but he dialed his attorney's number.

By the time the call was picked up, Alex's eyes had turned red. It could be pain, or it could be anger, or perhaps both. However, he did not feel like to even deciphering it. He just needed to end this, once and for all.

"I want you to draft a divorce petition," he bit out, the back of his eyes stinging in agony.

A few feet away, in the same parking beside the hospital, Neil sat in his car. His eyes hardened with emotions, but his lips quirked into a sardonic smile as he watched and heard that pathetic man's foolishness.

Alex loved Kate, that was for sure. But without any trust, that love is nothing.

And Neil would make sure to describe in detail how true it was to the pathetic bastard.

His phone rang, bringing him out of his thoughts. Sighing and blinking his eyes, Neil held the phone to his ear.

"It was Maya Ashworth's car, sir," an excited voice came from the other side. "You were indeed right about it. It was Miss. Ashworth, who'd run over your friend that night."

Finally, he had proof. Now justice was not far away.

Neil held his breath. His eyes were stormy with resentment and impatience. But patience he must keep, he knew. For the cunning witch should be surrounded from all sides and carefully so that no escape route could be found.

Just wait a bit more, Kate, just a little bit more.

~

So, here is Neil. (evil laugh echoing around) Yes, he was busy spying after the grand witch Maya. And this guy will, as you can see, will come up with an explosion, and finally, Alex will be blasted.

But hey, did you just notice, that Alex is still busy decorating for himself a grave - that is apparently getting deeper with each passing day.

And... thanks everyone for your votes and comments! They've made me soooooo happy!! Love you all! And also thanks for your suggestions on the 'Killing Kate' issue. Your wise words and perspectives have really helped me to see Kate's future in many different ways. It will certainly be helpful for me in developing the next track or tracks of the story. Thanks a lot!'

Now, how do you think Neil will expose Maya? We need a banging scene, right? (I love drama!)

Will Alex and Kate finally be divorced? Do you guys want them to be divorced or not?

Will appreciate your views about these issues while I go back to write the next chapter of - Rain Again.

Till later,
Love and bear hugs,
Lara.

P.S. I know, Kate's thoughts are really depressive and even borderline suicidal. It's not right to think this way. If any of you are (God forbid) having such feelings or an urge to think this way about life, fate, or your ownself... pls visit a counselor. PLS! It will make all the difference.
(Even I too should arrange one for Kate soon.)
