THIRD PERSON POV

Lulu and James woke up in the morning wrapped in each others arms having only slept for a few hours on and off, no more than forty five minutes at a time.

"Fuck it will be months before anyone can convince me to go camping."Lulu lamented as she sat up on the small inflatable mattress.

Her body was sore all over and even though she didn't have any deep wounds, just scrapes and bumps, she still felt like she had been ran over by a train.

"With that attitude no one will offer to take you camping."James mumbled next to her.

Lulu grinned, her pain momentarily forgotten as she gazed upon her man, who was very much alive.

"Good morning Jamie, how are you feeling?"Lulu asked.

He looked a little pale, his forehead dripping with sweat and when she placed her hand on his skin he was burning up.

"Jamie you have a fever."Lulu exclaimed tossing the many blankets off him to reveal James who was shivering and covered in sweat.

"I'm cold."James shivered.

Lulu ignored his pleas and turned him over so he was lying on his back. She lifted his T-shirt to expose his ribs and realized that they were darker than they had been the previous night. James was running a risk of infection if he wasn't already. His foot was thankfully not bleeding anymore and the splints were still in place.

His fever was very worrying since his ribs were broken and there was no guarantee that he hadn't punctured his lungs.

"James you need to get to the hospital."Lulu cried as she caressed his forehead.

"Cold."James stuttered curling into a ball.

Lulu felt sorry for him so she covered with a single blanket to keep him warm. She undid the zipper on the tent exposing them to the suns morning rays. She put her boots on before getting up to stretch. Her muscles felt better afterwards but she made a promise to herself to get a full body massage as soon as they got back to the resort. She was entitled to one after the ordeal they had both survived through. Ruffling through all the stuff she had gotten from the jeep she found a clean piece of cloth. Grabbing a water bottle she wet the cloth before crawling back into the tent. She knelt next to James and placed the cloth on his forehead. James mumbled his protests and tried to take the cloth off but he was too weak.

"I'm hoping it will help with your fever. You need help but I can't leave you like this."Lulu cried adjusting them so that her head was on his lap.

James moved burying his face into her bare stomach. He was burning hot so Lulu used the wet cloth to lower his temperature as best she could.

"Don't cry."James whispered lifting his hand weakly to wipe the tears off her face.

Lulu smiled at his kind gesture her heart warming up at how sweet James was being even though he was in pain. Lulu took his hand and kissed his fingers softly before holding it to her chest.

"We'll be fine."James mumbled weakly.

"We must."Lulu sighed her voice lacking conviction.

Someone must have noticed that they were missing and was out there looking for them. They were trapped under a huge rock formation so it would be hard to spot them so Lulu decided it was time they moved.

Slowly and carefully Lulu set James head back on the mattress, kissed his forehead then got out of the tent. She looked around her surrounding making a plan in her head figuring out ways to shift them, moving to a more open space or to higher ground. First of all she decided to move James as far away from the car as possible. The place she had set up the tent was beginning to get too sunny and he needed some shade.

She couldn't lift him and he was in no state to walk so she undid the tent leaving him on top of the mattress. She was going to drag him to a shade with him on top of it, it would make things easier for her to move James.

James didn't like the sun and flinched when Lulu exposed him to it.

"What are you doing?"James muttered looking up at Lulu.

"Moving you, hold on tight."Lulu replied grabbing the edges of the air mattress.

It was hard to get a grip but she managed eventually, dragging James across the rocky surface towards a shade under some rocks. By the time she was done dragging him all two hundred meters, her arms felt like they were falling off and she was out of breath.

"When we get out of here, the massage I get will be on you."Lulu heaved as she dropped heavily onto the air mattress next to James.

"Deal."James replied lifting his hand to caress her face.

"You're my brave girl, I love you so much."James confessed looking at her adoringly.

"I love you too but I'm really worried about your fever, you might have an infection."Lulu replied.

"I'll be fine, I have you."James said confidently.

Lulu gave him a sad smile knowing that she was barely holding on herself but she couldn't let him see it. She had to be brave for the both of them.

"Now onto the next thing, getting out of here. Any suggestions?"Lulu asked James turning to look at him.

James stared at Lulu struggling between trying to help her and staying awake. He was not feeling his best self and he knew Lulu could see that. She was so strong, his beautiful fierce queen. If not for her quick thinking and acting, they would not have survived that fall.

James knew that letting Lulu go back on her own would be risky since she could get lost but it was the only way they would find help. James needed help the most so even if it hurt letting his girl go into the unknown he had to do it for both of them to survive.

"There's a path in between this rocks, it leads to the back of the plateau. You'll have to climb up when you get there, it's steep but I know you can do it. Once you get to the top, listen for the waterfall and follow it. From there you'll find your way back to where we had parked the car. The tire tracks will lead you directly back the way we came. Please don't stray from the tracks. If you keep on the path, you'll find help soon."James instructed.

He had talked too much so his lungs were burning and he couldn't breath well.

"Hey Jamie, it's okay, I get it. I'll be careful and will come back for you as soon as I find help."Lulu assured him. "But first let me set you up properly so you'll be comfortable."

Lulu kissed his forehead before straightening up. She made sure the air mattress was propped up properly without any sharp stones underneath and was under the shade so that even when the sun rose more James would not be under direct sunlight. Lulu also made sure that James had enough water to last him a few hours until she was back.

"Please drink enough water, it will keep you hydrated. Try not to walk either and have faith that I'll be back."Lulu requested kneeling next to James.

"Be careful please, I love you."James whispered.

"I love you more, please hold on for me."Lulu replied her voice cracking.

She didn't want to leave James especially with his fever and broken leg but she had to. Her leaving gave them a good chance of survival because if she didn't, they would probably never be found.

"Okay I'm going now, be good and I better find you alive."Lulu demanded in a soft tone.

"I will."James promised.

Lulu leaned in and kissed his lips softly savoring the taste of his soft salty lips. She made a promise to herself to kiss the hell out of him when she came back for him with help.

Unable to part with him Lulu hugged James tightly even if she knew he was hurting. James didn't do anything to push her away even if her laying on his chest made his lungs burn like fire. He didn't know if he would survive long enough for Lulu to come back so he treasured getting to hold her in his arms even if it was for a minute. James wrapped his arms as tightly as he could around Lulu and kissed her hair. He didn't want to say goodbye but a part of him knew that, that would probably be the last time he got to hold Lulu if she didn't come back in time.

Lulu was having similar thoughts but she believed in herself and was not going to give up on James. She would start a smoke fire at the top of the plateau if she had to. Yeah fires were illegal inside the park so someone would notice the smoke and come to stop her and she'd get them to help her.

"Better get going now before it gets too hot for you to walk."James said reluctantly letting her go.

Lulu pulled away, kissed his lips once more before she got up dusting her knees. She grabbed a bottle of water for herself and after one longing look at James she turned around to walk away before she changed her mind.

James looked at Lulu walk away and wanted more than anything to beg her not to but her staying meant imminent death for both of them. He couldn't be that selfish, he loved Lulu too much and he had to at least give one of them a chance to survive.

Lulu had barely walked a hundred meters from James when she heard a sound that stopped her in her tracks. The sound was very far away but kept getting closer and louder. She turned around and ran back to James who was already drifting off.

"Jamie wake up, do you hear that?"She whisper yelled shaking him awake.

"What? Why are you back?"James mumbled his eyes half closed as he tried to focus on Lulu.

"Sshh listen."She whispers.

James pressed his lips together hoping his fiance wasn't going crazy but then he heard it himself. It was the unmistakable sound of a helicopter getting closer to them.

"That's a helicopter, what is it doing flying over the park?"James asked more alert.

"I have no idea but that means we are saved, I just have to find a way to get its attention."Lulu grinned feeling a little relief.

Help was coming to them.

"There's no wood so you can't make a fire and it will take too much time to write an SOS."James reasoned.

Lulu considered her options and realized that James was right but she couldn't just accept defeat, she had to find a way. She thought of all the survival lessons she had learnt over the years figuring out which one could be helpful. The helicopter was getting closer and if she didn't think fast it would pass by them and they would be back to plan zero.

The helicopter finally came in sight and Lulu was still thinking. Yelling and shouting for them would be of no help since they were too far down and the helicopter was too loud. Lulu looked up and the unmistakable logo of her sisters company on the helicopter got her attention.

"Marini?"Lulu wondered out loud.

She didn't know of any helicopter tours arranged by Zuri Safari's to the park. The helicopter went around the plateau once, then started another cycle and Lulu knew that it was family in there looking for her. She had no idea how they had found her or what they were doing at Ndoto in the first place but at that moment she didn't care, all she could think of was that they were finally saved. She just had to find a way to signal them of their location.

"Reflections, use a mirror."James whispered lowly.

Lulu scolded herself for not thinking about it first. If she reflected sun rays off a mirror, it would shine onto the helicopter if she aimed the rays correctly.

"You baby are a genius, I'll be right back, sit tight."She rambled excitedly kissing him quickly before getting to get feet.

She ran towards the jeep and kicked off the side mirror holding it up to the sun. She waited for the helicopter to be in sight again before she reflected the beam onto it. She really hoped that the pilot and whoever was in there saw them too.

"Marini, Amani, I'm right here."Lulu mumbled willing her sisters to spot her if they were up there.

Unfortunately the helicopter flew right past them again and Lulu dropped the mirror in defeat. They didn't go around the plateau, just straight ahead , looking like they were flying away. Lulu knew that if she let them leave chances of them being found were nil. She looked at the jeep and in idea immediately leapt to mind.

"What are you doing?"James asked from the distance when he saw Lulu retrieving a matchbox from her pocket.

"Getting their attention."Lulu replied as she opened the jeep's fuel tank.

"Not like that, Lulu I'm serious stop."James yelled sitting up feeling helpless.

"Cover yourself."Lulu yelled back as she struck the match and tossed it inside the tank before setting off in sprint towards James.

She didn't get far enough and the car exploded sending her flying through the air. She landed next to James painfully on some rocks hurting her face, arms, and legs.

"Lulu what the fuck?!"James scolded sitting up.

"They definitely heard that and the smoke will lead them to us."Lulu grunted turning over.

She sat up and winced in pain when she assessed her newly acquired injuries. She looked at her jeep that was burning brightly and smiled sadly at the loss. At least their lives would be saved because she could hear the helicopter blades slowing down as if the helicopter had landed.

"Let me go check it out."Lulu grunted as she struggled to get up.

"No you're hurt, sit, they'll see the smoke and come."James demanded.

"I'll be back."Lulu replied ignoring his request.

She finally got to her feet and stumbled a little due to her bleeding knees. She had hurt self more than she thought but she was not going to sit around and wait to be rescued. She had to find a way to save herself and James.

Leaving James behind she followed the edge to the cliff towards where she had heard the helicopter landing. Her legs hurt and her sight was beginning to become blurry but she refused to stop. She heard footsteps running towards her and she finally found the strength to start running too. She ran around a huge rock formation her lungs burning from all the exertion.

"Lulu."Marini's excited voice called out to Lulu making her look up.

Lulu cried in relief her steps slowing down when she caught sight of her sister. Marini held her arms out for her baby sister and Lulu was only too relieved to fall into them, tears of joy trickling down her face.

"Help, James." Lulu whispered before fading out in her sisters arms relieved that everything would be okay now that her big sister had come to her rescue.
