– D H R U V –

We were stuck in hospital and there was no way we could go back to rest when Eden was hospitalised. Unlike what I had thought of, he had an actual accident, which required a major knee surgery.

I'd be wrong if I say Natasha wasn't effected by it.

She was.

Her friend Kate and she sat outside the OT, whereas I waited for the red light to go off to enquire about his condition. It had been almost fifteen minutes since we arrived here and his operation was still going on.

"How's Eden now?" I turned my head as I heard a familiar voice. It was Dr Avery, but why was he so tensed. He wasn't the one operating him. "Dr Dhruv, I'm asking you something. Did you get any news about my son?"

Son?

So Eden is Dr Avery's son?

Well, they did have some similarities.

I shook my head in negative, "They're still operating him."

"How did this happen?" He asked and I could only shrug. Even I didn't know how this happened.

"He was with me." Kate interrupted, turning our attention towards her. "He was hell bent on showing me his favourite restaurant. We were on the way when he lost control and... It happened because of me. He shouldn't have tried to save me." Tears rolled down her eyes and Natasha rubbed her back to console her.

"It's not your fault. He's a bad driver indeed. I never let him drive alone." Dr Avery said and she looked up in amusement.

As soon as the doors opened and a staff nurse walked out, we stepped ahead to ask the him about his condition. "How's he?"

"We need to do instant blood transfusion, Dr Avery. May we know what's his blood group?"

"It's B negative. We have the same blood group. Let's go."

"Dr Avery! You can't donate blood, you're diabetic." I stopped him and he closed his eyes in resentment. His jaw tightened as he took a deep breath. Ofcourse, he was scared for his son. He didn't want him to suffer with something fatal. "I'm B negative too. I am ready for transfusion."

"Do you have any underlying conditions?"

"No. Let's go." We walked ahead and he took the test before we could go ahead with the transfusion. "Excuse me. I need some help."

"Yes?"

"Can you please do a genetic testing between our blood?"

"You want to check the relation between the patient and you?" Did I actually want to do that? I didn't know. It was just an act of impulse to crave my confusion. I've lost my count on the times I've done such tests with random people, just to find out about my ancestry.

"Yeah, something like that."

"But Dr Dhruv-"

"I need it for a research. I'd be grateful if you help me out." He nodded in affirmation and I smiled. Time passed by and the result gave a clear sign that I could give him my blood.

Transfusion took a few minutes and I could only think about why I asked for that test. I always had the curiosity of knowing about my birth parents. I didn't want to do anything with them. I already have my family with me and want nothing more. I just wanted to know why they abandoned a newborn child.

"You're fine?" Natasha asked as she handed me a glass of juice. I hummed and sipped the liquid slowly. "Thanks a lot for helping Eden."

"That's the bare minimum I could do." She smiled and nodded, "How's Kate? She was in the same car with Eden."

"She had a few scratches. Don't worry, we got them treated." I sighed and closed my eyes, "You don't look fine? Is everything okay Dhruv?"

"Yeah, I guess it's because of the blood loss." Could a blood loss do that? It never happened with me in past, maybe something changed this time. "Did you hear anything about Eden?"

"He's still unconscious. The operation was successful but his legs are still weak. They say he won't be able to walk for a few days."

It was bound to happen.

Car accidents are fatal most of the times.

Natasha's condition was almost same when she had an accident last year.

"When are we going back?"

"In an hour." There was no point in staying. Eden was well and he had his family with him.

"Natasha, I'm fine. I can walk. Donating blood doesn't mean that I can't walk. I'm a regular donor and I'm healthy." I was saying the same thing over and over again but she paid no heed in hearing me, or better she ignored me.

"I know, but we can't take a chance." I sighed and rolled my eyes. She was over-reacting. Infact she was the one who drove us here, she wouldn't let me do it. She forwarded her hand and I took the card out of my pocket before placing it in her hand. She wasted no time in unlocking the door and opening it. "Get in."

I walked in and changed shoes before going inside. When I saw her opening my wardrobe, I rushed towards her.

Not my wardrobe!

"What are you doing?"

"Picking out your clothes. You can't sleep like that, can you?"

"Thanks for the help but I'll do it on my own."

"Thanks for the advice but you can go and rest. I'm here." I took a deep breath and shook my head. She was not going to listen to me. "These are okay?" She held a pair of t-shirt and pyjamas in her hands and I took them from her. I stood up to go to the bathroom to change but halted in my steps when I heard her, "I'm gonna stay tonight."

What the fuck did she just say?

"What?"

"I'm going to stay with you here. I don't want you to die."

Die?!

"Why would I die?"

"I don't know. But I can't let you stay alone. You just had blood loss." She said and I mentally smacked my head on the wall. For God's sake that was not blood loss. I still have a lot of blood flowing through my system.

When I thought she'd shut the wardrobe, she turned back and peeped in. "What are you searching for Natasha?"

"Clothes for myself. I didn't carry one." My eyes came out of their sockets when I saw my sweatshirt in her hands. My clothes wouldn't even fit her. "Are you going to use the bathroom? I need to use it too."

"I'll use it first." I quickly ran into the toilet with my clothes and walked out after freshening up and changing into new pair. As soon as she saw me stepping out, she smiled and walked in the bathroom.

I looked around the room and saw the cushions misplaced. But they were fine when we walked in.

Natasha!

She's such a mess creator.

I placed everything back at its correct place and held my breath when I saw her walking out in my clothes. They didn't look bad on her though. She looks good in everything, I was wrong to make assumptions.

"It's loose." She held the waistband of the trackpants she wore and I chuckled. She's really something. I stepped near her and took my hands to the band. I held the strings and pulled them to make it tighter.

"Is it fine now?"

"Not much but I guess it's okay." She went to the bed, lied on it and pulled the quilt over herself. So, she was going to sleep on my bed. I quietly walked to the other room and sat on the bed there. It was a single bed but that didn't matter now. I was about to lie but paused in the act when I heard her voice, "Dhruv!"

"Yes?"

"Come here. Now!" I rolled my eyes and walked to the room she was in. "What were you doing there?"

"Sleeping."

"Sleeping? You can sleep here too. What's wrong with this place?"

"You are here."

"So? I won't infect you with some disease." I put my hands in my pockets and nodded at her words. She wouldn't understand it. We can't sleep on the same bed. The last time she was drunk, we didn't have two beds and had to share the one. But this time we had two beds. She could sleep here while I could use the other one.

"It's not that. You can stay here. I'm there."

"No, you'll stay here with me." She pulled the covers off bed and patted the space beside her. I shook my head in disbelief and walked to couch to pick some cushions. Carrying all of them back to bed, I kept them in the centre of bed to create a border and got into the covers. "What are you doing?"

"Sleeping."

"Like this?! What's with these pillows?"

"What is wrong with it?"

"Why are you so scared? I'm not going to eat you."

"I know. Good night." I pulled the covers over my head and closed my eyes. Not a second had passed when her hand crawled over mine. It slowly slipped over my tummy and rested there. "Natasha..."

"Hmm?"

"Sleep."

"I am sleeping." She threw her leg over the pillow in such a way that her foot touched my knee.

"Are you fine?" I asked and she hummed in question, "It's your second day, right? I hope you're not having severe cramps." She withdrew her legs back and sighed.

"No, I'm fine." Before she could take her hands back, I held them and tangled her fingers with mine.

"Sleep tight." She smiled and nodded before closing her eyes.

Tring... Ring.....

My sleep broke from an irritating sound. I slightly opened my eyes and looked around to sense the cause of that noise. A warm gush of air hit my neck and I turned my eyes to see what it was.

Natasha!

She had threw the pillows which were between our upper bodies down the bed and nuzzled her head in my neck. With slow and steady movements, I pulled her hands off me and sighed when my work finally paid off.

When the ring started again, I pulled the phone from the bedside table and picked it up without thinking much. It was Natasha's phone but I didn't want to wake her up. She was tired after what all happened yesterday. I opened the door to balcony and walked out.

"Yes?"

"Uh... Dhruv?"

"Hmm." I checked the caller ID and saw Kate's name on screen.

"Where's Natasha?"

"She's sleeping."

"Wait. You both were together at night. I mean, it's day and..."

"Yeah, she's here. Is there something urgent?"

"Yes. Eden's awake."

"Oh. Is everything okay with him? No side-effects or memory loss, right?"

"Yes, he's fit and fine. His legs are a bit week, but they'll get fine in a few days."

"Oh, that's great." I cut the call, leaned on the railing and closed my eyes. Well, I did want Eden to get well. Personal grudge is something else and moral duty is another. For me, at this moment duty comes first.

One question still resided inside me and came to bite me everytime I think about it.

Why did I even ask for that test with Eden?

We don't even have any similarities. Neither our face, nor our race, nothing is similar at all. Maybe I made the decision in haste.

Whenever I find a similar blood group as mine which is quite rare to do, I run such tests to find more about myself. Maybe I could find more about where I come from. I know it's not important now, but it could probably clear all the doubts which harbour inside of me.

I don't want to have any regrets for not searching enough in this lifetime.

What if it matches with Eden?

Then I could connect the dots and find about who I'm related to in his family.

I don't think it would happen ever!
