Mila's POV

My head was resting on Lara's shoulder as we rode in a freight train. Our backs were resting against the wall as we stared outside the open door at the landscape. I held Lara's hand and pressed my lips to it. She cracked a smile and kissed my temple. I smiled and nuzzled myself deeper against her.

"L'amour..." Lara took a deep sigh. "There is something I wish to tell you." She solemnly spoke.

"Worse than my fake family being killed?" I joked, but she didn't laugh. "What? Please don't tell me you and Naomi-"

"No." She chuckled. "But she did help me, so I owe her for that." Lara then averted her eyes.

"What's-"

"It's about sang familial." I raised a brow at her words since she normally doesn't want to talk about it. "It's... more serious than I thought."

"What do you mean?"

"I... we have a lot on our plates, so maybe we should-"

"Lara, tell me." I softly commanded.

"If Zena doesn't complete the ritual by her 18th birthday, then she'll turn into a heinous beast that has lost all remnants of humanity. She'll kill anyone in her sights."

"Can we-"

"There's no cure except for death." She gulped and I saw tears in her eyes. "The council did extensive research and of all 50 who turned, all had to be put down. They did try to find something. They really did, Mila." Lara looked heartbroken. "And since she's waited so long and her birthday is nearing... it can't just be with any family member..." Lara now had tears rolling down her cheeks. "It has to be with you." She whimpered and began to sob. "I'm so sorry."

"La-"

"I thought not being a complete vampire would halt it, but just a drop of vampiric blood makes you susceptible to it! I... this usually happens before we find a mate and... why?! Why does it have to be you?!" Lara covered her face while I held her. "I can't even think about you two... my wife and my child." I took a deep breath since I was in shock and- "I know you're disgusted and I understand. I'm sorry for doing this to you."

"La-" I jolted as the freight jerked around. We looked outside and saw that we had arrived at our destination. "We'll talk about this more when we get back, okay?" She sadly nodded at me.

We got up and walked to the open door. Lara held my hand as we jumped out of the train. I involuntarily shivered from the cold winds whipping around us. Lara held a hand up and then sighed since touching me would make me colder. I offered her a small smile, but she looked helpless.

I deeply exhaled before starting our journey through the snow. Lara offered to carry me, but I needed to build up my own heat. Lara frowned since there wasn't a village in sight, so she couldn't get me a jacket. I then realized there was only one way to avoid freezing to death. I began to strip and handed Lara my clothes. She watched me shift and I nudged my head for her to get on.

"My darling wolf." She smiled and scratched behind my ear.

Lara jumped on my back and I was off. The howling wind didn't affect me anymore, allowing me to travel through this never ending expanse. I had no idea where to go since the wind distorted any scents. I whined at Lara to tell me where to go.

"My love..." Lara looked around. "I have an idea, cherie." She ran her hands along my fur. "Travel east."

I nodded my head and took off in that direction. It didn't take long for me to see rapid moving silhouettes. Lara then suddenly propelled herself off me and tackled a vampire. The vampire thrashed around, but Lara easily subdued him. He stared at me in fear and whimpered as I got closer.

"I understand this is trippy, but she's on our side." Lara addressed the terrified teen.

"G-Gold eyes-"

"Ya, that's Mila. Or Amelia." His eyes widened as Lara confirmed my identity. "But she's on our side. "Mind telling us where everyone is?"

"I can't-"

"You will." Lara smirked and darkened her eyes. "Speak." She compelled him.

The compelled teen stood and guided us to the city center. By this time, I had transformed back and the teen had given me warmer clothes. I'm surprised vampires had warm clothes since they aren't affected by the cold... ahhh! Purely for fashion. Lara kept me close to her as we walked through the streets.

The citizens of the city looked like they were living through an economic depression. The vampires looked starved and exhausted while nearly scraping by. The boy explained that everyone was struggling and there was only so much the royal family could do. The royal family were hailed as exceptional leaders, but there was only so much they could do. They didn't have the numbers or strength to overthrow the wolf empire.

Lara held me close when vampires would turn their heads. I didn't know if they were staring because she was the princess or because I was the werewolf princess, their oppressor. I gulped, but Lara assured me that she wouldn't let anyone hurt me. The hateful stares made me more nervous, so I felt relieved when we finally reached the building where the royal family resided.

The guards recognized Lara and allowed her inside, but pointed their weapons at me. Lara swiftly disarmed them and roared at them in anger. I had to hold her back from mutilating them. The guards were paralyzed in shock and fear since they were trying to protect her.

"Never aim a weapon at her again." She snapped and dragged me after her.

"Larz, they're just trying to protect-"

"Any act of violence against you will be perceived as a threat against me." Lara's eyes darkened.

"L-Larz?" I pointed behind her.

Lara tuned and gasped at seeing her father. I shook and increased my grip on her hand. Lara took a moment to compose herself, but I could tell that she was terrified. Her father stared at me, prompting Lara to growl. His eyes then snapped to hers and wearily pointed at me.

"W-wolf." He breathed out.

"He's not the same guy." I stuttered in an attempt to remain calm. "Remember, he's not the same evil."

"My mate." She responded to him.

"Uh- the princess." Joaquin slowly spoke.

"Yes." Lara nervously answered. "She's my wife."

"Okay... we should tell the family."

"O-Okay." Lara gulped.

Lara tightly held my hand as she created space between Joaquin and us. He was confused by the distance, but didn't comment. Lara and my eyes intently watched for any slight movement that may result in an attack. We finally arrived at the tea room to see Alena and Alec.

"Alena." I smiled, but she looked scathingly mad.

She whizzed to us and attempted to strike me, but Lara caught her wrist. She stared at her mother in confusion while Alec used the opportunity to attack me. I grunted as he tackled me to the floor. He punched through my chest and tried to yank out my heart, but Lara halted his movements. She then tore him off me and used magic to hold back her mother and brother. They fought against the force as Lara helped me up. She held me close as she commanded them to calm down.

"Since when have you gotten stronger?!" Alec sneered.

"You were always pathetic." Alena scoffed.

"Definitely not the same people." I muttered.

"That's an understatement." Lara smirked and released them. "You attacked my mate, brother. Learn you pla-"

"You are unworthy to refer to yourself as my sister." He interrupted. "You're pathetic and weak. You're unworthy and unfit to be part of this fam-"

"Shut up, knockoff Alec." She rolled her eyes. "And here I thought my mother would love me more here." She winked at me.

"Alena-"

"Do not speak, you vile beast." She spat. "How could you allow such a creature inside?!" She snapped at Joaquin, who gulped. Guess she wears the pants here.

"Lara said that the wolf was her mate, so-"

"Disgusting!" Alec screamed.

"Was he this disgusted in our realm?" I whispered to Lara, who gave me an amused look.

"Of course, you would be the one who-"

The ground suddenly started shaking. I hung onto Lara as items fell off the shelves and broke. We then heard frantic screaming and the tearing and crunching of bones. We ran out the room and stared out a window. My eyes widened at seeing a mass amount of wolves raid the city. They were mercilessly killing whether the vampires were children or not. I covered my mouth with my hands and held back the tears. They were committing genocide.

Lara swiftly turned and grunted. I turned and gasped at the silver sword she was pushing against. Alec was attempting to kill me, but Lara pushed against him.

"You brought the cavalry! This is your doing! You're killing us!" He screamed.

"No, she's not." Lara flung him back.

"Kill her!" He screamed at his guards.

Lara grabbed my hand as we ran through the halls. Guards would block our path, but Lara and I would fight them off. As we were fighting them, wolves crashed through the doors. The guards halted their onslaught and turned to fight against the wolves. I gulped and grabbed Lara's hand. We ran up the stairs and avoided the wolves crashing through the windows.

"Mila!" Lara yanked me in a different direction.

She released my hand and sped towards a covered object. She threw off the covering and coughed as dust rose in the air. I waved the dust away while staring at a mirror. But what was different was that I wasn't seeing my reflection back since it was a two-way mirror. I nearly cried in relief and squeezed Lara tight. Lara deeply kissed me before pulling back. We smiled and went to step through, but to no avail.

We were shocked since the object acted like a regular mirror, but we could see into a different realm. Lara began to softly bang against it, careful not to break it. We could hear the howling from the werewolves in the house. Lara and I were frantic to get across.

Lara and I were panicking and trying to figure out what to do. She kept throwing ideas out and trying spells, but they proved naught. Fuck!

I turned and faced the mirror, only to gasp. Zena was looking straight back at us. We screamed and slapped the mirror. Zena repeated the action and tried spells on her side. She opened her mouth and we could tell that she was screaming in frustration. I mouthed to her that it was okay and to calm down.

Zena was desperately trying to reach us, but to no avail. I gave her a soft smile and pressed my hand against the window. She sniffled and placed her hand against mine. I couldn't feel her warmth, but I could feel the emotional connection.

The snarls got more animalistic, so Lara and I turned. We stared at 20 wolves waiting for the order to attack. I heard their thoughts and recognized Dante. His golden eyes stared at me in such hate and anger. I gulped since there was no way we'd be getting out of this alive.

Lara sensed my emotions and gave me a half smile. She held my hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. Dante howled, resulting in the wolves racing towards us. Lara and I turned to see Zena screaming and punching the mirror while crying. Even though we knew she couldn't hear us, we told her that we loved her. Lara even asked her to take care of Yeira. Zena was hysterically crying as she continued to pound against the mirror.

When the wolves were a few strides from us, Lara pulled me into her. She gave me a heartwarming smile.

"I love you with all my heart."

"I love you even more."

I wrapped my arms around her neck as she gripped my waist. We then passionately kissed and poured as much love into it as possible. I saw Zena screaming even louder as the wolves jumped in the air to attack us. Before they could do anything, Lara tipped the mirror over, so Zena wouldn't watch us die. I fluttered my eyes closed and silently told the woman before me how much I loved her and was glad to experience life as her mate.
